Wishful transfer thinking, broken Hearts

953

Celtic have been linked with a whole barrage of players over the last 24 hours, strongly linked in some instances.  While it is more fun to drool over players coming in than fret as existing players leave the club, I’m very sure that some of the reports floating around right now are the product of wishful thinking on the part of agents trying to place their players with a top European club.

For each player you read about, two others will be under consideration, and remember the golden rule, if players or agents are talking publicly, they are not talking to Celtic.  It’s easy to generate screeds of column inches for you, or your client, with a few well-chosen phrases.

Ukio Bankas statement this morning that current bids for the assets of Hearts which they hold security over, specifically Tynecastle Stadium, scene of Scotland’s most famous non-assault, do not meet their valuation presents real challenge to the club.  Hearts are a club capable of generating in the region of £10m.  Operating the club on a budget this size will be difficult, raising enough cash to satisfy Ukio Bankas might be impossible.

Unlike the situation last year with Rangers, when Craig Whyte secured an irrevocable undertaking upon liquidation to transfer Ibrox Stadium to Sevco 5088 Ltd, Ukio Bankas liquidators are unlikely to reject a CVA but accept a lower bid for Tynecastle.  Without a stadium, a Newco is unlikely.  The best Hearts fans could be faced with is going “Cap in hand”, as they sing down Easter Road, to Hibs, with a request for Newco to ground-share.

Wallace Mercer was ahead of his time. Flats, flats……….

  1. Suprised with Man U and Moyes haven’t dabbled in the market yet.

Signed a decent boy i the Uruguay dude but Man U fans will be demanding he brings in a signing to rival Man City.

  2. Booby Murdoch,

One regret is we never seen Cadete and Larsson together in the 10 in a row season.

I think Elfsborg’s ability may have been elevated in peoples mind due to two things. The number of goals they slapped home in the last round, and, the pasting Hibs took from Malmo in the EL.

    Is this justified?

Just how bad were the opposition to Elfsborg? In addition, cheating has been mentioned re the number of goals conceded. Accusations of a betting scam surfacing.

How bad were Hibs and how good were Malmo?

If football were played on paper, we have the team to dispose of Elfsborg. Then again, if it were played on paper we wouldn’t have been a last 16 side last season.

Their fitness levels will presumably be better than ours? Is that a given? They will be hungry too, this is a massive challenge for them and that can make them extremely dangerous opponents.

If we show any signs of complacency, and a lack of focus for even 15 minutes over the 2 legs, we could be in trouble, BUT, I am assuming having watched them, Lenny will have the bhoys fired up and ready. If he does, and the real Celtic turn up, we should be good enough over 180 minutes.

Why do I keep seeing big Sammi as the hero in this tie? I hope my vision is correct.

  4. I thknk Samaras will be a big player in Europe again this Season. Seems to revel in these occasions.

remember Cadete’s debut v the Dons? Night game. 5-0 I think. Maybe 5-1. Place was rocking.

  6. twist and turns,

Remeber it well. Bucketing of rain that night as well.

Michael Watt in goal, he was decent until Hately scared and terriosed him. Wasn’t the same. Bundle of nerves. :)

  7. Gareth Bale had the most attempts on goal from direct free kicks (27) in the Premier League last season.

    He scored twice, yes twice

    Cadete’s debut.

My mate couldn’t make it. Mrs Twists gets asked for the first time in her life if she wants to come through to the game with me. After much humming and hawing,” it’ll be boring, how long does it last”, I finally get a “oh ok then I’ll come just to keep you company”

    Enter Cadete stage right.

On the way home, “oh that was brilliant, I loved that, can I come back next week?”

    Err — “how aboot naw!”

  11. I’m torn about Hearts. Football wise we had a lot of good games against them. Fan wise I have a pal who is decent and is a shareholder. However too many times I have had nasty experiences at their ground so in some ways I wouldn’t miss them.

I had a discussion yesterday with a mate who said Bale was a one-season wonder.

Even when I pointed out that he won PFA POTY for 2010/11,he still persisted.

    Typical hun….

  13. BMCUW

Agreed re Hertz – at least their fans made a real effort to save their Club. Unlike some others, who thought waving a wee red card would be sufficient.

when I was a wee bhoy, I wasn’t allowed to certain games with my dad and uncles cos my mum thought I wouldn’t be safe, too big a crowd…you know the kinda mum thing.

So, if Hearts were at home I went along to Tynecastle on the service bus and went into the away end. I enjoyed those games. I was only 12 or 13, but there were some decent players on show at that time. Jim Cruickshanks and Donald Ford spring to mind.

I was oblivious back then to the undertones surrounding Hearts (and even the currants to be honest)

    Blissful ignorance.

  20. Flats, Flats, Glorious Flats…

No tears shed by me, I will never forgive or forget their antics of booing a minutes silence for the Pope, celebrating last day of the season a few years back with cries of 3-0 to ‘the peepul’ or revelling in the attack on Neil Lennon.
