there are exceptions of course, but I still think my post reflects the normal trend on here.
I don’t think the counter-attack was what did us tonight.
Bad defending and poor goalkeeping at the first goal.
Poor defence of a throw in, and abysmal goalkeeping at the second goal.
Perhaps a counter attack at the third when we were really chasing the game.
Comment earlier re: the BT commentator – really poor soundbite jockey. Commenting on what he wanted to see, rather than on what was actually happening.

Thanks for your words of encouragement about the rescue btw, much appreciated, just a small thing, we get very little donations, I will rephrase that, we get no donations cos we don’t ask for any, sometimes the Mrs will set up a Go Fund Me Page for a specific dog, otherwise, it’s all out of my pocket, not that I am complaining, I do it with a smile most of the time on my napper, I have a couple of internet shops that in the main pays for the food etc, we couldn’t manage it otherwise, one shop does good, the one I want to do good is struggling, I have no idea why, the stuff in it is top quality, but nothing stranger than folks.

True, and tactics mean nowt when you make big defensive errors like we did in the first half.
But ultimately they’re low on match fitness and sharpness at the moment and still had an easy night of it.

I don’t think Zenit had to nullify us.
Our unwillingness to play a forward pass and constantly going square and backwards meant we nullified any threat we may have had.
At the 30minute mark we had 70% possession and not one shot on goal.
Quite often in the first half of many games this season we have struggled to put shots on our opponents goal.
Our obsession with purposeless possession has now become a millstone around the teams neck.
We are now to easy to one dimensional and easy to read.
A tactical adjustment is needed.

You can only play a forward pass if someone is moving into a position to receive the pass, even the American commentators were talking about it.
Zenit made sure Callum was not allowed the freedom of the park, they tobered wee James early on and let us have the ball.
What’s the answer to “purposeless possession” as you keep repeating on here?
I watched Barcelona the other night and it was similar to how we play except with better players of course. And the have Iniesta who pounces when the space opens up, the only two we have who play passes like that have been injured most of the season PR and TR, so perhaps our tactics have been cut to cloth for the players available, rather than having their sense of adventure coached out of them(I never understood wtf that was supposed to me either)
Do you think we would have gone three at the back with a full squad??
Do you think if Paddy or Griff were playing that our defence and midfield would have so few options.
etc etc…
Have seen youtube videos of Scott Bain and he seems a decent shotstopper.
De Vries must have one of the worst save percentages ever.
And i have seen no evidence of better distribution than Craig Gordon..

Under O`Neil,Strachan and Lennon our away performances in Europe were pretty poor but at least we had the consolation of some great home performances and results.Now we don`t even have that.We seemed to be obsessed with a style of play that is hung up on possession to the detriment of actually playing at a tempo that puts teams under pressure,our style is sussed out and easy to negate.Two years of losing games by 7 and 5 don`t make me feel any better because we have 30 million in the bank.To play a team like Zenit and get to the 67th minute before you even force a save from their keeper is just unacceptable.Have to agree with Chris Sutton this was a team that didn`t believe they could win this game.
I am buggered if I can find it, I have spent hours trying but I can assure you it is out there, what is it you ask, it’s a stat about stats…..

If the players are not moving into space then the coaches have a responsibility to teach them how to.
I call it purposeless possession because the object of the game is to score more than opponent.
How slowly passing backwards and sideways puts you in advanced and positive positions is a mystery to me?
What did Zenit nullify in our game plan from your viewpoint?
I watched on American tv and heard what commentators said.They said on more than one occasion we did not seem to know how to move forward.
I also use purposeless possession to describe why our team has such high possession stats but have struggled to score goals this season particularly at home.
Well, that was pretty poor today. Nobody stepped up and took responsibility on the park. And yes, I could have come up with a better game plan than BR had today. Want proof? ‘Move into space. Shoot. ‘. FFS.. it’s football. It’s not that complicated.
But… a policeman was killed in the fighting at the Spartak Bilbao game today, which should put things into perspective.
Football is just a game at best, and a plaything for rich people, at worst.
At the end of the day all that really matters is that everyone gets home safely.

I don’t know the rhyme but I am guessing that there is a double accounting trick going on e.g. You count all the pensioners and then you count all the prisoners, knowing that many prisoners are of pensionable age, so they will be counted twice. Similarly, those who are at school and college will include paid teachers and support staff but will be counted as though they were merely pupils. And then you end up with one working stiff (who is probably Polish anyway)
