We have pace in the team but this pedestrian system does not use it.

Have posted often that a diagonal ball over the top to the pacy Sinclair and Forrest would change and stretch and alter opponents defensive shape.

Instead both have to come deeper receiving passes facing their own goal which renders their pace redundant.

Our Players are now so conditioned to make easy sideways or backward pass.

  2. Inverness CT 2-1 Dunfermline

Dunfermline were relegated to Division One after a late goalkeeping error from Dorus De Vries and a deflection ended their seven-year spell in the SPL.

Inverness goalkeeper Michael Fraser had already produced a fine save to deny Adam Hammill before Jim McIntyre volleyed home after 37 minutes.

But, with Dunfermline looking nervous, De Vries allowed a Richard Hastings free-kick to slip through his grasp.

    agree 100%.

we also have to start scoring in the spl, i will say that we miss armstrong from the 2016/2017 season, hope he comes back.

  6. PeterLatchfordsBelly on

Mixed bag of a European season. Excellent performances (Astana at home, Rosenberg away, Anderlecht away, Bayern at home, Zenit at home) interspersed with some atrocious performances (Astana away, PSG home and away, Anderlecht home, Zenit away). Typical Celtic really.

  7. It was astonishing reading the debate earlier in the week ‘Would you rather win the Europa League or SPFL’

Surely the time is approaching when the penny will drop.

The 30 pieces of silver that the SFA and the SPFL gave us last season to allow Sevco back quietly; are now gone in the Plc’s black hole..

The players have been trying to tell you for months that there are severe problems in the Dressing Room. They are being asked to win a Treble and compete in Europe with below par signings.

According to Ian Bankier’s Statement in the Interim Results Celtic Plc made a 500k profit in Profit on Disposal of Intangible Assets (Player Registrations) in the six months to 31st Dec 2017 (GMS and Janko). We brought in Ntcham and Benyu.

January 2018 saw the signings of the now injured Compper and ‘Scottish Talents’ Hendry and Morgan. Add to that ‘Temporary Registrations’ of the Chelsea player Musonda and the reserve goalkeeper at Hibs, who was on loan at Dundee (unspecified discipinary reasons.)

Is these the actions of a Plc that are backing the players and the supporters or are we participating in some Balance Sheet Champions League.

This afternoon’s article is a case in point. A makey up, distraction about ‘disrespect from Zenit players’. Where is the critical analysis about systems and tactics.

Nope; the silence of Peter Lawwell and his cohorts and their disrespect for the Celtic Family will be their Epitaph.

The confirmation for me was watching the last Sevco game when I saw the adverts for BR’s autobiography flash around the pitch. Complete with price of course. So the players are up against a cheating Sevco and the MIB and they have their Manager touting a book, during the game. Talk about a sense of entitlement. It’s all about the money.

Brendan has the worst defensive record since Shankly at Liverpool. Can he set up a defence, at a decent level. His signings are targeted to please the Plc, as they prepare for reduced income when Sevco claim Title 55.

Apparently costs on salaries are way up…Anyone seen a breakdown…

Sorry lhads but it doesn’t look good…

    GFTB,

You asked me a question the other day. I haven’t attended a competitive match since Sevco first appeared in the SPFL. The PLC’s silence and the Sevco stitch up have been agonising to watch.

    OK,

So everyone who hates you is gleeful….as they are, no doubt.

What that brings to Celtic is a great resolve.

Positive planning and thinking – no doubt.

The best response to a kick in the belly…….

For sure we are missing a few, had the likes of Griff, Roberts, Armstrong, Rogic and a couple of others been fit and healthy I doubt we would be struggling, if that is what we are doing, like we are.

I still think there is something no right tho, don’t like saying it, never have liked saying it, the suits are fair game imo, but the team are a No, No, but something just doesn’t seem right, I honestly hope it’s just my paranoia, no that I think I am paranoid about it, just something doesn’t equate in my head, it should, that’s what is bothering me.

  10. I believe that there are Celtic supporters and there are Celtic fans.Supporters are the ones who actually go to games whereas fans take an interest but dont go to games. This could be due to the fact that money is tight or maybe they live abroad or they may simply chose not to go.Everyone has a choice.Supporters and fans are of course entitled to their opinions and are free to express them on this or any other forum.I am not sure if Naganon 2 or Kev j fall into either of these categories. They never seem to post when Celtic achieve a victory but post multiple times after a defeat. They both seem to adopt this attitude that they are above going to actually watch Celtic until the club is run by “rebellious tims” well cetainly in Kev J`s case.It strikes me as somewhat of a holier than thou attitude to those who actully support the team.I’m pretty sure the vast majority of people are upset about the way “rangers” were allowed back into the Scottish football set up and I would have liked to have seen our support boycott the first league game at Celtic park but we all know this was never going to happen again people made their own choice and decided to go and were rewarded with a 5-1thrashing of Newco. Now I wish that “rangers” had been dead and buried for good but everyone was well aware that a Newco would be formed and to be honest most of us expected them to go straight into the SPL or at worse the Championship so it came as a surprise that they had to start in the bottom tier.I would never have believed that this would have happened. Now I would have preferred if they had never darkened our door again but I did enjoy that 5-1 thrashing indeed both 5-1 thrashings and I bet Neganon and Kev J did too.

  12. thomthethim for Oscar OK on

I am slowly coming to the conclusion that we don’t have the players who are good enough to play in the style that Brendan wants.

We have some talented lads, but they lack a footbal brain, re awareness and positional sense and movement.

We are also victims of the level we play at domestically.

In some ways, the present team reminds me of the early 60’s, when one week we would be brilliant, then rubbish for the next three weeks.

    Lacking in consistancy.

Still, what am I bothering about?

An hour before kick off, I was told to prepare myself for further grandfatherhood later this year.

  17. TET

Griffiths was rumoured to be on his way out due to personal reasons. He settled back down and got injured, sadly.

Armstrong needed an operation shortly after his pal Erik was placed in the Departure Lounge. Delayed worryingly over a contract extension.

Paddy will make us stronger when he gets over his injury, again .Hopefully Rogic will give us a lift, when fully fit.

Jozo wants away and is not motivated.

    Moussa looks disinterested.

Sinclair looks disinterested too at the moment.

BR signings (apart from Ntcham and previously Moussa and SS) are disappointing.

The players know they are Intangible Assets :) that will be traded at the best time for the Balance Sheet.

I don’t think I have ever seen a team of winners go backwards so quickly.

To my mind a lack of investment, poor recruitment, high expectations of the Plc and support. Demands of European football and poor tactics has crippled the squad.

Not for the first time the Plc appear to be killing the goose that laid the golden egg.

    Night all

  18. TTT,

    Congratulations.

I agree about the players not being good enough to play the system. The tragedy is that the players know it and don’t look to have any belief in what they are being asked to do.

This has been clear at a European level. Apart from the victory against Anderlecht away and maybe Zenit at home we have been on the end we are regressing.

This worrying trend has developed in the domestic game.

Time for Brendan to earn his corn.

    Nite all.

  19. The Hand of God

As far as I’m concerned my anger at our PLC has nothing to do with Rangers or their tribute act, I always accepted that a club with that amount of supporters would be accommodated.

What I can’t accept is when the highest court in the land declare that Rangers cheated our sport for over 10 years that our club meekly accept that the cheats get to keep their trophies.

Take it to UEFA, take it to the CAS, fight for justice for our fan’s who paid money to watch a rigged sport.

  21. Great posts from Fan-a-tic & Clogher Celt.

Brendan did wonders last season & His signings all produced, but much less so this season. We can all see how Moussa & Scott are much less effective. We miss Griff, Paddy & Stuart but that is only part of the story.

I was very, very disappointed to read Brendan’s answer when asked what do HIS players have to do to compete better at this level

    “It is probably just consistency.”

Really Brendan? Celtic fans watch TV & they’re not simpletons or morons.

It behooves you to remember who your real audience is & who your audience isn’t. I’m a season ticket holder & I support the club & Foundation in every possible way. I’m not a potential employer in an EPL club, nor am I some Arab billionaire who likes the cut of your jib.

I am the working class guy who believes what you say, who believes in your credo of football “the Celtic way”, but who desperately wants to avoid ritual humpings from run of the mill Euro teams.

What can your players do to compete better at this level?

In all honesty: be better prepared.

We set up the same way as at Celtic Park & Zenit were ready for us. They squeezed Broonie & Callum & then it was wait for chances – which we have them.

Our back four were actually a back two – just.

Mikael is done save for SFA cup games, as is his first deputy Gamboa.

Jozo has lost whatever he had.

Ajer is the rock upon which our defence must be rebuilt. Compper, you need to be good.

KT is an enigma. He can be so good going forward yet he can be found MIA at the back.

It seems like he believes his own publicity.

Keiran, you’re good, but sometimes you have to realize the nature & dynamics of the game you’re in – play accordingly.

Our midfield had possession but no penetration.

Moussa was almost looking for penpals, he was so lonely.

Dorus had a dodgy day at work.

Zenit were ready for us & we gave them what they were told to expect. Callum & Scott were neutralized & THEN we were fecked. Our strategy collapsed & we lost the 2 goals (least said).

We all know that we lost this tie, perversely, in the victory in Glasgow. Our failure to score more goals against an unprepared Zenit cost us the tie.

Brendan, you sent the team out poorly prepared for this game. They MAY have let you down/failed to perform as required, but in simple terms, they were outplayed. Your job is to preparo prepare the players for whatever the media require

  24. Reflecting on last night.

Problem is really two-fold. Last night the focus of frustration is on the defensive side, and quite rightly so. But in the first leg we played really well but our superiority wasn’t turned into a decent lead.

On the defensive side I find it hard to remember a game where we have lost 3 such poor goals. Zenit didn’t rip us apart, they weren’t world beaters. Won’t individualise it, but you CANT lose those goals – make those individual mistakes – and consider progress is being made. Do any of our central defenders put themselves on the line for the cause – a Mjallbe or similar??

Up top, at no time last night did we look like scoring. Our striker didn’t play on the line of the defenders, our wide men didn’t have enough ball to deliver quality. And crucially our midfield dont threaten from outside the box. Our possession was too side to side, and too deep.

    Solutions?

Centre half’s who can defend first and play second. Brendan must rue his failure to secure better this season.

Up top – at all costs get Griff fit and in the team. He is by far our best striker. Also move the ball faster.

Frustrated, but bigger picture remains. We have the core of a very good team. But it needs an injection of 2/3 players of real quality. The boat needs pushed…….a CH and a link man.

  25. My friends in Celtic,

Absolutely gutted. We could have beaten this team, yet we didn’t. It is a huge setback that even future domestic success cannot hide.

We have the talent and yet again we fail to show. Forget the board, the failure last night was down solely to players and our management team.

Just what is the point of mega possession in our own half with no cutting edge ? This style of play has been sussed: Even Barcelona struggle at times.

It is sooooooo obvious our mental preparations and attitude are so wrong. A sports physiologist is long overdue.

On another point , The money men cannot be too happy with MD and BR. A > £20m asset has vanished before our eyes.

We should have been soooooo far in front of the new huns to render them insignificant in our big picture, now we are watching over our shoulder. That msy be classed by some as unacceptable and incompetent.

Have we progressed which is ultimately our measuring stick? The answer is blatantly obvious. No.

Despite the possibility of a double treble, ask any supporter who regularly watches our games :- Have we regressed? The answer most certainly is Yes.

Yes we are still Tim’s today, but we cannot ignore our report card which states.

    Must do better.

Time for everyone to waken up and smell the coffee. Work to be done.

    ——————————————————————————————————————

This is what the coffee smells like to me.

It’s about time Celtic supporters woke up to reality. Last Thursday’s match was a one off and yesterday’s was the norm. The club has no ambition to be a force in Europe even at Europa League level and will not spend serious money to try and become one. As long as we dominate domestically and qualify for the CL group stages two out of three seasons then that’s good enough. The £30 million in the bank is there to compensate for the one in three fallow season and will not be given to Rodgers to spend. Supporters can scream and shout about this player and that one but it will not do one bit of good. The board have their master plan and nothing except tens of thousands of empty seats is going to make them change their minds.

Forget Europe. It’s a money spinning diversion for the PLC. The team’s most important goal should be chalking up back to back trebles and moving onto a historic ten league titles in a row. These would be historic achievements and will be remembered and revered by generations of fans to come. Scraping into the last 16 of Europe’s equivalent of the Petrofac cup would not.

Rodgers was so wrong to select a weakened team last Sunday. I said this on another forum before last night’s match. The manager should now always pick his strongest team for domestic matches and forget about making Celtic a force in Europe – it just ain’t going to happen. Let’s just accept being the best in Scotland and forget about the crushing disappointments we regularly experience in Europe whilst we polish the treble silverware in our boardroom.
