  1. Joe Filippis Haircut on

I dont think Doris looked good when we lost the second goal but surely we must ask where was the player who should have prevented the Zenit player having a pot shot at goal ? H.H.

  2. Wether we like it or not there will be a title challenge this year, mostly due to the fact we are visibly deteriorating as a unit, and when under pressure we collapse every time.

They only had about 3 shots on goal tonight and scored with them all whereas we had 3 passbacks to their keeper as our only attacks.

We should have woke up when the Huns got a draw and we should have signed some quality.

De Vries is rotten and Lustig is finished at this level.

Jozo is regressing and Ajer isnt the finished article.

We need a Roy Aitken and Paul Mcstay type in this team.

And if only we could find a Danny Fergus McGrain .

I watched Lustig head the ball completely vertically with all the time in the world and a few seconds later did exactly the same again both times the ball went to the opposition.

I watched a few headers out of defence recently and they almost allways go to the opposition.

    It drives me nuts !!!

I have to be honest and mention that I was allways impressed with Terry Butcher when he played for the old Rangers.

Every header he won went to a team mate.

Not often I compliment Rangers players but he was a defender.

So frustrated watching us tonight had high hopes for a draw or a win …or dare I say a performance fitting of Celtic.

If only Samaras was still with us ….

  3. Can we now all admit the January transfer window was highly inadequate.

I said after the Hearts defeat this couldn’t be put down to just a poor performance and was worrying. Of course the happy clappers blamed the pitch.

Then tiredness was blamed for the poor New Year’s Derby.

Then it was the pitch at Kilmarnock and losing two centre backs.

We then had a great opportunity to tighten the noose on our league challengers and picked a reserve team.

Again the clappers said it would be worth it when we qualified.

FFS they were on at half time telling us we’d still qualify when we had not had one attempt at goal in the first half.

Wakey wakey fans are giving honest views on what they are seeing yet somehow that makes them the bad ones.

I see a team lacking in confidence and the spirit and enjoyment of last year sadly lacking.

We have a fight on our hands domestically with our levels of performance, time to drop the arrogance, complacency (host) and get this title won at the earliest opportunity. HH

  4. Wouldn’t have happened if Boyata and Gordon were playing. And Roberts. And Armstrong. Along with the eleven who started.

Seriously. It’s a concern that individuals mistakes have become the norm and are being punished. Not sure how you address that problem.

As someone who has always said that anything in Europe is a bonus, I’m surprised at myself for being annoyed that we didn’t at least show some of the endeavour and skill that we showed last week.

Still. Domestic tribulations awaits us in the next few weeks. We’ll need to show some character to get through it with our reputation in tact, as well as our lead in the league.

Something to look forward to I think. Put tonight in the bin.

  5. burnley funny how you accuse people of being in pain and of being sevcoites to deflect from the truth

Can anyone tell me how many teams from TV markets less than 5m had teams in Europe post xmas ?

Why does the pond life that is Sutton think Celtic has the right to beat a team like Zenit who have been in Europe 8 years in a row after xmas and who have just spent £120m in summer on team ?

Celtic has been in Europe 8 times after europe in 38 years and yet for some reason this is a failure ? No other Scottish team came close to even reaching the tournament proper.

The pathetic media will have a field day with their bitter bile as the seek to destabilise us.

Celtic will win on Sunday. Celtic will win big at Ibrox too.

    ===================================================================

Spot on,let them try to destabilise us,although I’m not happy being out,the bigger picture in my view is the league,as it generates the CL funds for ongoing growth.

Hope your right about Sunday,I’ve the worst seat imaginable in Section ( Out in the open ) P.

Transparent goalkeeper made the trip an impossibility and those that moaned about Gordon’s kicking have ironic egg on their face after witnessing a keeper that couldn’t keep hens out of a midden….it was heart rending watching a keeper that couldn’t even star with Dunfermline.

WELL PUT – 100% AGREE, AND NOT AT ALL BECAUSE OF TONIGHT – goal was similar to the one I watched him let in last year up in Inverness – 25 yards, straight at him – seemed to duck under it – he’s rubbish.

  9. I think the blame tonight lies with coaching that has created a team with little forward direction.

Being tactically obvious for all of this season means teams no what to expect.

To stop teams high press on you Zenit,Killie and StJohnstone recently pass ball forward and behind them making them more reticent to overcommit.

No team has that fear against us as they know we will continue our sideways and backwards possession obsession.

And really good teams have punished us heavily for it in Europe as the goals against illustrate.

We can talk about budget considerations but whats our excuse for the amount of points dropped at Celtic park against Scottish teams with a fraction of our budget?

We need the coach to take a realistic look at the tactics and realism they need change.

  10. WITS

    Just saw your sutton comment.

He totally chucked it and reverted to type once HL departed. His pathetic petulant performance at Ibrox getting himself sent off was matched only by his lazy second half of the season 2005. For me the last straw was watching him training ( joke ) standing having a fag with Robertson at CP 2 days before the game at fir park on helicopter sunday. He coulnt even be bothered to train and Walford and Robertson just left him to it.

Always a Chris Sutton guy. HL made him. In my view. Now he is a shock jock. No more or less.

Just my view. When celtic stopped spending more than they were bringing in at around 2003/4 he stopped playing for us.

  11. Brendan signed DDV and then didn’t play him. Then CG gets injured and we’re up the creek. Brendan and his staff watch DDV every day in training. Fair enough if DDV is poor but Brendan takes the blame ultimately.

  12. Some unnecessary name-calling tonight .

David17 is a long-time and well respected poster here, and makes very insightful observations on a regular basis. He’s hurting, after another insipid performance from his team tonight as we all are. Just because someone posts something critical, or controversial doesn’t mean they’re a Hun. No need for that

The usual response to a defeat tonight.

  13. Really poor night and the team deserves a lot of the criticism it is getting for being so soft and open at the back.

We will have to complete our domestic campaign with what we have and it should be good enough but, come the summer, we are back to the perpetual task of rebuilding.

Mikel Lustig, with a WC finale this summer, is going to be of little use in our CL qualifiers. Unless Tony Ralston manages a Kris Ajer-like change in his ability to hold down a place, will need another development year. And poor Gamboa is no-one’s idea of an answer, so there must be some significant summer buying.

  14. BATEEN BHOY on 22ND FEBRUARY 2018 8:35 PM

Thanks for that. I’ve maybe overstepped the mark once or twice tonight, I apologise if I’ve offended anyone.

  15. Pish poor against a poor team, new GK a priority , need at least 1 strong CB as well to bring Hendry and Ajer on.A wee team doing well v Arsenal …

  16. The hands cant hit what the eyes cant see on

    @ BURNLEY78

Celtic are different from the rest of Scottish football. We have a turnover of £100m, that’s why our expectations are different. You can’t hide behind the fact that we are a Scottish club- we are not Aberdeen or Hibs.

We have a huge amounts of money in the bank and next to no debt, so there is money to improve the team and we also have a very capable manager with an international reputation. It’s fair to say that we can legitimately expect to go toe-to-toe with Zenit.

Also, Zenit were knocked out by Anderlecht last year, so let’s not build them up to being a top ranking European side.

  17. ffs sftb arguing with fairhill bhoy 2 good tims yes we were piss poor but dont let the infiltrators stop you supportin the tic.hh.

    Cool heads Boys..

BR has delivered a tee lesson and post Christmas European football.

Tonight is a step in the journey. BR knows who’s got it who doesn’t. He has if anything been too fair on some.

I expect them to be moved on in the summer.

  19. Fairhill Bhoy

Make your point with whatever words you have. Just stop being a coward about it.

You were quick enough to seem to have a go at BSR and myself without saying what it was that annoyed you.

You were quick enough to take mock offence at being considered for a clown suit.

But now you want to go all passive-aggressive and say “you have no words”

    Aye, did ye?

  20. Before it gets written in stone on here that Zenit are poor, they qualified from the EL group as top points qualifiers and best goal difference.

We caught them cold last week coming off their winter break and should have scored more to make them work much much harder tonight for the victory. That was always going to be our best chance.

At 1-0 down I’m sure Mancini and his players were confident of turning it around..

With a team cobbled together with band aid like Celtic’s pretty much is it was always going to be a big ask even after last weeks performance.

The worst aspect of Celtic in Europe is the every season expectations that somehow we’re going to do something massive, it’s like a millstone round our necks, I’m sure the management team are much more realistic about where we are than the support is:((

  21. Everyone is entitled to be pissed off tonight, but no need for turning on each other.

For me, the most pertinent comment of the evening was made by Neganon at half time when he said, in his own words, that we effectively lost tonights game at the weekend, by not allowing the team who did so well last week to build any momentum.

I know we’ve had a horrendous injury list this season, but how often have we had an unchanged team out ? Little wonder there’s so much inconsistency.

The league is not over and thinking otherwise in my opinion is a mistake. However, with our resources, we should win it at a canter. I suppose a sense of perspective is needed. 9 points ahead, cup in the bag, good chance of a treble. Hard on a night like this though….
