LINFIELD boss David Healy contributed to an evening of bizarre incidents in Belfast last night by insisting he did NOT see any missiles thrown at Celtic players.
A bottle of Buckfast, coins and other objects were clearly hurled at Leigh Griffiths as he prepared to take a left-wing corner-kick in the 64th minute.
New Bhoy Jonny Hayes, a 70th-minute substitute for James Forrest, had an object chucked at him, too, when he went to the same corner to take a set-play.
Riot police with dogs brought into the ground at the full-time whistle as supporters attempted to get onto the pitch to have a go at Griffiths, who had tied a Celtic scarf to a goalpost.
The insane misdeeds of an unruly mob of undesirables will inevitably bring about a sizeable fine from UEFA and could even lead to Windsor Park being closed for any future European tie.
Amazingly, former Sevco Rangers striker Healy refused to acknowledge the incidents, insisting that tensions around the game were stoked elsewhere.
He said: “I think a lot of people in the media were making a big deal out of it.
“Linfield, as a club, have made giant strides over the years to try to cut that shouting and abuse out, but you get that in Old Firm (sic) games, you get that in Manchester derbies, you are always going to get a ferocious red-hot atmosphere.
“Our fans back us, back the players and me through thick and thin and, hopefully, they continue to do that throughout the season.”
