Chasm, but Celtic should have done much better

460

For all of our dominance yesterday, you have to think there is room for considerable improvement. Passing in the first half was frequently poor, shooting throughout the game was invariably off target, and when we managed to keep it down and between the sticks, the keeper was able to read the shot. Gilks played well, but the truth is we flattered him.

Moussa Dembele grabbed all the headlines with his back-heel-flick-nutmeg-winning-goal, but I spent much of the game debating whether it was time he was rested. Against Newco last month, he held the ball up and linked play, while finding and exploiting space. Yesterday his linking was poor and he seldom found space.

The incisiveness we enjoyed watching as recently as the outing against Manchester City, was missing against Gladback on Wednesday and at Hampden yesterday.

There were also enormous positives. Jozo Simunovic and Erik Sviatchenko were absolutely critical on Celtic’s grip on the game. Their positioning – when we were in possession – kept the ball flowing. They both gave us playmaker performances, and they didn’t miss a beat defensively either.

Again, just as on Wednesday, it didn’t work for Nir Bitton. When we play out from central defence like this the deep-lying playmaker role is crucial. He need to create space for us to move the ball forward, while he becomes an auxiliary defender as our full backs are so high up the field.

Stuart Armstrong came on and played higher up-field than Bitton and managed to put the squeeze on Newco.

The game reminded me of the League Cup semi-final two years ago, when Celtic subjugated an impotent Newco without scoring the volume of goals their superiority deserved. There was a chasm between the teams, which makes my belief that Celtic can play a lot better all the more interesting. Conversely I suspect that was a high water mark for Mark Warburton’s team.

The portents are good that he believes that game was a sign of progress.

As for Craig Thomson, that was self-evidently not good enough.

I have been looking into a mass exodus to Lisbon between 23rd May and 28th flying with EasyJet from Edinburgh.

I have been in touch with their group bookings team and they have quoted me a reserved 50 seats at around £300 return. I am about to e-mail certain folk about this who expressed an interest but unfortunately I have been unwell throughout last week and so haven’t got to it yet.

Accommodation would be on top of that.

I assume that there will be some team changes when we visit Ross Poldark, although perhaps not from the start.

I would have Armstrong ready for action and maybe Gamboa.

Toure will be back and even Du Vries.

It will be another of those dour, northern tussles, where County will hang in till the end, but it is a big three point game, prior to Pittodrie.

God alone knows what will happen with this or when or even by whom to who?

But I will bet that Law Financial will come marching forward and sit and watch the fallout start to happen.

There are cheaper flights available from Heathrow, Luton and Liverpool but I was asked to get a rate for a group flying from the Central Belt.

Spot on; Ernie is a clever man but he and Mags McGill are the only 2 I can recall using the terminology of the old firm; they continue the myth along with SMSM and the huns. No one else here, to my knowledge, uses it or supports it. Bordering on trolling to be honest!

Liberty Corporate have three officers listed as directors, Spurway, Ware and Law Financial.

The four of these are the listed as directors of The rangers fc group, so it does not look like there is much conflict, especially where law financial and Liberty corporate are concerned.

Thank you for your incisive summation of the Law Financial situation. The whole situation is almost beyond belief. My initial understanding of the scenarion was (as par normal) wrong. I mistakenly thought that they had acquired a further loan/input of capital but was surprised that Level 5 had not been trumpeting the Hallajuh Chorus in a revivalist “We are saved!!” manner.

Your post at 12:47 seems to have disappeared. However I’m dismayed if it did link to Huns who have finally felt the full force of the penny dropping on their nappers. That is the beginning of them being able to rationalise thoughts. I had hoped they would stick to their L5 soup and pudding for many years to come or at least until another insolvency.

I’m good BTW. Just a bit of worsening Diverticular disease identified. Thankfully I took the sedative this time and don’t remember much about the procedure even though I was awake throughout.

    Excellent summary.

Are you aware that the Worthington Group pensions trustees have presented them with a winding up order? This was in court today and has been adjourned for 28 days, to see if a CVA can be agreed with creditors – most of whom seem to be the directors.

Thought for a while that Sky’s financial gamble in ploughing massive amounts into EPL to support the risible “best league in the world” claim was always a business model bubble waiting to burst.

People, including myself when I stopped subscribing to Sky Sports for that very reason, are finding other sources for their football viewing.

Completely agree, If they are a different club why all the excitement on Sunday? doing the msm’s job for them.

We were cheated or has everyone forgotten that after two games? We were cheated again on Sunday until the 88th minute, This won’t go away. They want it to and us cheerleading a narrow victory over them helps cover up the big lie.

    Wake up.
