125 kit and an SPL comparison

1030

A Hibs fan suggested to me on Twitter that as his team are wearing their home kit for next week’s Scottish Cup Final Celtic should take the opportunity to wear their 125th anniversary top. Despite there being 100 years precedent of Celtic and Hibs both wearing their home kits, recent rules (or perhaps customs) dictate that clubs are not permitted colour clashes.

That being the case, let’s take the opportunity to reach back to our founders and wear the anniversary kit.

Before that we have the small matter of Dundee United to play on Sunday. Celtic won the league by 20 points last season, 10 of which were gained after a competitor failed to come up with enough money to meet their commitments. Defeat at Tannadice could reduce this season’s winning margin to 10 points, in a season where everyone, even Hearts could afford to meet their commitments.

Who would’ve thought this SPL would be so competitive? Not me. More please.

Thanks for the excellent support for Willie Wallace’ autobiography. Orders in today from East Brisbane to West Didsbury and many places in between.

  1. Yep BT it was a brilliant night O.K. I reckon a Tommy Burns song with his famous quote worked into the chorus would be a smash hit.

As Ally prepares to open the warchest [once he’s settled his tab at Gregg’s] I can exclusively reveal that Blind Sid Hemphill is on the Sevconian radar, and an imminent swoop is expected, in a move that will delight the Light Blue legions and stun the world of football, as the Gastric Bandleader aims to steal a march on his Div 2 rivals.

Chelsea, like every big Club, have some animals among their support. With Chelsea, as with every big Club ( except one), the animals are in a minority. When I lived down South, I went to a few Chelsea games and their fans are no different than any other set of fans. In recent years, they have responded to the venom which comes their way from a great many Celtic fans. They never used to dislike Celtic fans but our insistence on seeing them as the London Huns has resulted in a self-fulfilling prophecy as regards their feelings towards us.

Apart from the Mourinho years, I have always enjoyed watching Chelsea. They invariably play attractive football and it is a great shame that we allowed the animosity which now exists to have developed.

We most certainly have been poor on more than occasion this season domestically. However, in Europe we excelled culminating in our two games against Bsrca.

In my opinion we need a challenger domestically to keep us at our best. I will qualify this by stating we do not need any reincarnation of any dead club to achieve this.

I find him a very pompous individual who can’t go 10mins of his own life without wanting to appear on television talking about himself.

Did you know he broke his leg once?

  12. Soooooo… wee hurtin’ hun sympathiser Wright doesn’t accept 2 game ban. Hope they throw the book at him ( I know, I know). He’s bang to rights guilty. Ridiculous decision and one which must be backed by his club.

There’s a lot of hurtin sevconians and wannabe sevconians out there who don’t accept reality. It’s what killed them 1st time. Sweet.

  13. Definitely the 125 anniversary colours instead of the black garb. Celtic and Hibs wore their respective colours in the Dixie Deans final when the Hoops gave an awesome display scoring 7 goals against an outclassed Hibs. If memory serves me correctly, it was a few days after the European Cup semi-final against Inter Milan when Dixie Deans missed the all important penalty when the teams were deadlocked after extra time. Celtic after doing the hard work by getting a draw in Milan were shocked at Celtic Park. A wonderful Celtic team that regularly made the latter stages of the European Cup.

Hope our old friends Benfica do the business to-night.

  16. Agree with vast majority of your posts Jungle Jim, but not the one re Chelsea Support. It goes without saying that the majority of almost every support are generally O.K. but a Club is defined by its Ultras. Their Ultra’s are National Front Fascists and I dislike them almost as much as I dislike the Huns.

  17. LennyBhoy, agree with what you are saying there, the context of the discussion was domestic football, so we were trying not to include, the wonderful European run.

The point about competition domestically is a valid one. I hope it is one Celtic are bringing to the attention of EUFA in their quest to get an affiliation with another F.A.

  21. JJ,

ive met a few well to do Chelski fans over the years, usually at meetings way down south.

I disagree with your assessment, it took these fellas minutes into a conversation to ask which team i supported in glasgow, and as soon as declaring for the greens their disdain of our club is brought out.

Usually along the lines of their “blue brothers” pash.

  22. Corkcelt – I went to Chelsea a few times and never saw any hint of trouble, or any right-wing ultras. I used to play in a pub team full of Chelsea fans – some were of Irish stock – and never had any bother.

McLean of St Johnstone is a strange one,he definately stood with his hands behind his back and did not applauded ,he also put in a terrible tackle from behind on Wanyama in the first half.

I have it on good authority that he and his family are huge Hibbies and had nothing against Celtic. It appears to me that his attitude towards Celtic changed when he went to the defunct club called rangers,it seems that the players who played for them were taught more than football tactics. He is from Peebles, not the hotbed of bigotry I would think.
