128 seems impossibly indiscriminate

1423

Banning 128 fans seems impossibly indiscriminate.  I don’t know how it was decided but it sounds like “those eight columns and sixteen rows” – painting with a very broad brush.  If so, the Club must meet with those in the affected area as soon as possible to allow fans who have had nothing whatsoever to do with vandalism or dangerous behaviour to continue to follow their club.  If such a letter arrived on my doorstep, I would want to face the Club urgently.  We’ve all been tarred by the pyros, banners and vandalism, but some are paying a higher price.

Unless there is specific evidence against an individual, the default expectation must be that bans will be lifted after interview.

Back in July, after the Club and the Green Brigade met to agree a way forward following some early season Uefa disciplinary problems, we wondered if either could control every last hanger-on hoping to ‘stick it to the man’.  Statements in recent days from both organisations show how impossible this has proven to be.

When I wrote my article on Saturday I didn’t expect the condemnation of the previous night’s incidents, from all sections of the support, to be so comprehensive.  We’ve seen elsewhere the damage procrastination and deflection can be.  There is no need to deflect.  We will not blame Chelsea fans. Nor is there need for ‘whataboutery’. Vandalising seats and throwing flares is now endemic in our game but Celtic fans are judged by higher standards. The Celtic support is characterised by by enormous generosity. Still.

    Getting ridiculous now…

Why the personal abuse at all?

Does free expression mean if I disagree I should play the man rather than the ball?

Blimey…. to think I was mildly embarrassed with myself for telling turkeybhoy he was talking nonsense rather than explaining why I didn’t agree with him.

    Can’t we do this better?

PS – turkeybhoy was talking nonsense!!! ;-

    Haw you!!!!!!.

Anyone remember reports from the Aberdeen game where some people were saying their fans broke seats and just like the Ajax scum threw them into the family section?

  3. I think Jack Irving is brilliant! You just have to look at the state of Celtic at present the board hounding the GB, The troublesome fans that disgraced us at Motherwell and the almighty uproar since. The other media lackey’s are ripping the Tic fans a good one also and many of us are helping them out. All this and the shower from the South-side posting hit lists, calling us, well you know what they call us as witness their recent club meeting, the continued sectarian singing by the majority of their fans at all games and way, not a peep.

Aye that Jack Irving is brilliant!

How many casuals live in Carntyne?.

For a man who drinks in the Brazen regularly, it is mental how you have managed to avoid all those wee students from the GB, they were more or less camped in the place until very recently. Strange that eh?

Mind you the bare faced cheeky wee low down bums (skid marks so they urr) and neds are gone now so its all good for shiny Celtic fans to move forward. Getting milked by Mr Lawwell who markets Walfrids Celtic like a beacon to the world. As long as we all fit the profile. No room for nonsense like opinions on hypocrisy and repression, that’s so last century. We are all modern now. Who needs a soul when there is a cash cow to be milked. Talking of which, if ever Lawwell steps down, you seem the kind of guy with just the right wrist ability to continue the milking of the acceptable, money laden, embarrassed to be seen as lefty/oirishy fanatics. Oh and

congratulations btw, you waste no time setting about telling us all how the nutters who thought standing up for integrity in the game are just as unwanted as the uni/ned types.

All Hail TonyD, the concsience of the modern support.

Sorry should have made clear, I was having a wee twitter exchange with a sheep fancier who said I was making it up. I was in section 116 with my 6yr old grandson at the game and remember people saying after we scored 3rd goal that some fans were throwing seats. I didn’t actually see it and was just wanting reasureance that I didn’t imagine it.

  8. sixtaeseven

We’re still waiting whilst the seat death toll rises.

In the meantime the questions on vandalism are

being answered by the Celtic coach, at the airport

    for a CL game.

Champions league game tomorrow. I’d like the Celtic to go for it tomorrow and why not we have nothing really to lose. Hopefully we’ll get a wee bit of luck too.

Eddie. It is happening to often Aberdeen at Celtic Park Motherwell at New Douglas park Celtic at Motherwell the Rangers at Falkirk if it is not handled seriously and nipped in the bud someone is going to be seriously hurt. Celtic have stood up and been counted and are investigating the matter which in my opinion is only right and proper.H.H.

  12. There are sections of our support who really have forgotten or never knew what being a Celtic fan is all about. There are also a dozen or so who smashed up seats.

I bet it would be easy to educate one of those groups and impossible to get through the heads of the pig thick, arrogant, self righteous other mob.

Beebawbabbity 10:14 on 10 December, 2013 Radio Scotland……..Call Kaye discussion featuring hurting Hun Les Gray pouring out his anti Celtic bile,

    ————–

I caught this on the way to work, Les Gray was / is an extremist. His language and frothing at the mouth rhetoric.

The erudite Celtic man, on his way to Barcelona was excellent.

Today, I feel a lot of mixed emotions about being a Celtic supporter, hurt even. Not by the actions of neddish youths, but by the reaction of the rest of the support. I have seen individuals with Celtic colours on do all sorts of bad things at matches, and in daily life. At no point do I think that means everyone is tarred, or that everyone shares a bit of the blame. I think that collective blaming and shaming is going to haunt the pontificators in the future.

I dont want a group disbanded because they choose to protest in song or banner.

I do want those who host an event, pay police and stewards to manage it, to take their responsibilities seriously.

There were systemic failures in the organisation of this match. We have witness accounts of drunken youths outside the ground. We have statements of being directed to any turnstyle. We have people saying they couldnt take their allocated seat, because they were not even in the right tier of the stand.

All of this, is now ignored, because the scapegoat is found, and thats allright then.

I predict a hardening of attitudes, the youths dont go away as some would like, they will grown some and come back smarter.

If my supporters bus was banned from receiving tickets, because some day “non members” behaved appalingly, I wouldnt be accepting of taking responsibility for their actions.

Les Grays police should do what they are paid to do.

    Rant over.

I was planning some matches over xmas, I was in the Celtic shop in Clydebank last night when I heard the news breaking about the Green Brigade dispersment. I was actually flicking through the CQN annual at the time.

I left without buying anything, no tickets, no pressies.

I am properly bored with victimisation of any group of celtic supporters.

People found guilty , after proper investigation, or better still lifted while doing it (cowardly cowardly policing and stewarding) thats the people to blame.

I feel really quite lost with all this, to a point of I dont recognise my fellow supporters who want hundreds of other fans banned.

Quite sick with it all , actually
