A case to answer for SFA and Celtic

1175

Referee Steven McLean saw the incident when Josh Meekings stopped a Leigh Griffiths header crossing the line with his hand.  He was 12 yards away with an unobstructed view.  The blame for getting the decision wrong is entirely his.

We can only speculate as to why he didn’t award a penalty.  At best, McLean didn’t believe the evidence of his own eyes and passed the buck to his assistant Alan Muir, who was around 6 yards from the action but with a less-clear view.

Muir did not see Meekings clear the ball legally.  If he was distracted, and failed to see what happened clearly enough, he should have informed the referee.  If Muir told the referee anything else, this is also a failing.

The SFA have a case to answer. Not fit and proper, to use their parlance.

Notwithstanding the fact that if the rules of the game were followed Celtic would be in the cup final right now, they are out because they failed to deal appropriately with the known qualities of Inverness.

Three goals were lost, all of which were defensive mistakes.  A break downfield which caught the defence cold, a cross from the right which was not properly contested with all defenders in position, and a failure to match a back post run (similar to a recent League Cup final goal conceded to Kilmarnock).  Fatigue may have contributed to the final goal but being down to 10 men was not a contributing factor for the first two.

The game should have been won in the first half but we opened the second period off-pace.

Another matter which should be on the agenda at Lennonxtown today is why didn’t we have the right studs on?

It should be someone’s job to make a decision after the team arrives at a ground on which studs to wear.  If the decision was made, the decision was wrong.  If this process was not followed, it should have been.  Either way there is also a case to answer internally.

  1. Good morning CQNers,

Pre-empting the SFA’s response to Celtic’s perfunctory letter I guess would be along the lines…

………..Muir called no penalty and as he was closest to the action referee McLean accepted his call, however, on review Muir now accepts he made an HONESTincorrect call as his line of view was obstructed by the defenders head when he actually handled the ball………

When I saw the replays it was clear McLean, who was no more than 12 yards and to the right of the incident had a clear unobstructed view of Meekins handling the ball with his right hand. With his experience he couldn’t possibly have any doubt it was anything other than a straightforward penalty decision but his instinct and Muir’s incorrect call give him wriggle room to ignore the bleeding obvious.

This is pure conjecture and trying to prove would be a totally futile exercise, I’m afraid, Celtic the club, board and supporters are on another loser.

  2. Just arrived in Nuremberg and beautiful.

Yep statement is weak ; however Lawwells bonus is not under threat so low key is order of day.

I have 3 season tickets and will not renew unless there is a Fergus like behaviour from our CEO to end this cheating from a corrupt SFA

  3. Murdochbhoy. Then we need to ask Meir why he said it hit his head when it clearly didn’t. We are very close to another dougie dougie situation. Muir is being held out as the scapegoat now just like craven. Shamefully craven was sin died for telling the truth. That is the level of corruption we face. Muir may not break ranks here but if he does the SFA are in serious trouble. This has all happenned before and we caught them lying.

Here we are again and we are scared to face this down. If we are scottish football can go to hell in a handbag for all I care.

  4. I will never stop supporting Celtic and going to Paradise. Sunday’s events strengthen my resolve on that.

I will always renew my season ticket ( when I am fit to go and can afford it) but I will never , ever support an SFA competition again.

So sorry to hear of your sad loss

    RIP

As I said it’s pure conjecture on my part guessing at the SFA’s response, but you can bet it’ll be pure obfuscation.

To face them down we need somebody with inside knowledge to break ranks and give us something with which to build an unassailable case against them. If that is Muir then all the better but he needs to be prepared for the consequences like Craven.

When my sister called me yesterday about the game, she said “How many officials do they need to get a bliddy decision correct?”

I pointed out that the more officials there are,the easier it is to shift blame from the ref to his assistants. That is what will happen, the assistant behind the goal will have been deemed to be in a better position to see it,and didn’t call it.

It will all be swept under the carpet.

  7. Why dont the board come out and tell us that, they flucked-it-up by bringing Ronny the idealist in as manager?

Took tae school buy John Hughes who had sussed that – Celtic without…GMS & SA…are p#sh….Paul Hartley isny embdy’s mug either btw.

The board’s ‘statement ‘ was as effective as the CQN-Ego-Trippers-‘statement’ in the Sunday Herald…laughed oot of court…looked upon as spitting the dummy.

But, of course…the ‘whole’ of the Scottish-footballing-establishment…know fine well that it’s the – Celtic ‘paying’ customers – who are the biggest-mugs in the world of football.

What set of supporters would…year after year…pay a bunch of faceless-charlatans to, take all the mugs money then, tell them that…when the same…hun-infested-football-establishment…laugh at you then, train their guns on you…yer on yer own….so, what is the point in having a Celtic board if all they ever do is…turn the other cheek?

Who do they speak for when they do this?

Why are they allowed to get away with this wanton-chicanery?

Why do they bring in d#ck-managers who urny wily/fly/sleekit enough to deal with what awaits them?…who does this set-up suit?

Why did Fergus not let the fans take control of Celtic and, why did Fergus get rid of all the rebels as soon as he got his foot in the door and, why did Fergus give control of Celtic to his shady-equal…DD?…is Fergus’s haun still in the till at CP?…if not, why did he try to guilt-trip disenchanted Celtic fans to renew their SB’S?

The ‘statement’ is a pile of p#sh straight out of the same drawer as when, Celtic sent a letter of complaint to the BBC during the ‘honest-mistake’ seasons when, the same Celtic board…looked the other way when, their Old Firm pals were stealing all of the CL-money to stay alive whilst at the same time…colluding with the cheating of the Celtic support who pay ‘them’ to direct the club…LOL,LOL, fluckin LOL.

Did Fergus agree with the board looking the other way?….from his heated-driveway-mansions…paid for by the Celtic mugs?

The Celtic board are ‘bigger’ and, far, far worse crooks than anything that has happened at ibrox…know why?….coz the Celtic board are cheating/decieving/swindling…Celtic fans…and that…is unforgivable.

Who are the ‘biggest’ criminals…the Celtic board who carry out all these crimes against innocent/well-meaning Celtic supporters….or, the Celtic supporters who finance these criminals to do what they do?

    No Jungle….No Celtic…

“The Game, The Game Is Over…The Rebels Have Gone….”

    …bye.

  10. Good morning

Just read back and couldn’t agree more with neganon2 . This is the Celtic supports chance prior to the season ticket renewals to withhold and let the clubs board know exactly why. We are sick of the corruption in the SFA and Celtics reluctance to go after them.

Unfortunately Bankier and Lawwell etc will only take real notice when the fans stop paying for a rigged competition. HH

How about this piece of pash from John Fleming ,

  26. I was not happy when PL became a member of the SFA board, as far as I’m concerned he should resign from it as it serves us no purpose,.

The complaint from the board to the SFA is weak and an after thought, Celtic supporters should go to league games only at Celtic Park and European nights, league cup and Scottish cup games should be told to stick them up there arse, only a total ban in these competitions would satisfy me, let’s be very honest here, we have to do something here, why isn’t the heads of the associations speaking up, or did I miss it?
