A case to answer for SFA and Celtic

1175

Referee Steven McLean saw the incident when Josh Meekings stopped a Leigh Griffiths header crossing the line with his hand.  He was 12 yards away with an unobstructed view.  The blame for getting the decision wrong is entirely his.

We can only speculate as to why he didn’t award a penalty.  At best, McLean didn’t believe the evidence of his own eyes and passed the buck to his assistant Alan Muir, who was around 6 yards from the action but with a less-clear view.

Muir did not see Meekings clear the ball legally.  If he was distracted, and failed to see what happened clearly enough, he should have informed the referee.  If Muir told the referee anything else, this is also a failing.

The SFA have a case to answer. Not fit and proper, to use their parlance.

Notwithstanding the fact that if the rules of the game were followed Celtic would be in the cup final right now, they are out because they failed to deal appropriately with the known qualities of Inverness.

Three goals were lost, all of which were defensive mistakes.  A break downfield which caught the defence cold, a cross from the right which was not properly contested with all defenders in position, and a failure to match a back post run (similar to a recent League Cup final goal conceded to Kilmarnock).  Fatigue may have contributed to the final goal but being down to 10 men was not a contributing factor for the first two.

The game should have been won in the first half but we opened the second period off-pace.

Another matter which should be on the agenda at Lennonxtown today is why didn’t we have the right studs on?

It should be someone’s job to make a decision after the team arrives at a ground on which studs to wear.  If the decision was made, the decision was wrong.  If this process was not followed, it should have been.  Either way there is also a case to answer internally.

How did we know that Jim Farry deliberately delayed a Celtic transfer to hinder our title challenge?

How did we know that Dougie was lying to us when he changed his mind about the penalty and it was actually craven who told him to change his mind?

How do we know the SFA was colluding behind the scenes to ensure that Rangers could liquidate and there be minimum consequences?

How do we know the SFA wanted to ban Celtic for flying the offensive tricolour but demanding it wasnt racist (honest)?

How do we know that the SNP passed the OB to criminalise Celtic fans because they couldnt get us under current legislation?

I’m sure Natknow was being sarcastic with that comment. That is how I took it.

We know,he knows, everybody knows McLean cheated. There will be no comeback in Scotland, except that Celtic might get plenty more grief heaped on the team and our support will be dismissed as paranoid.

Yeah I was pretty sure he knew and no doubt you’re correct.

It’s a sore one though. For the SFA this is a show piece event, neither they nor their officials feel the need to address an incident that turned the semi final of their flagship competition into a farce.

Unfortunately I couldn’t see the price for a penalty and a red card. Also, there were no odds on when the Daily Record would break a “story” about Muir and McLean receiving threats…

Broadfoot will be on the case,a la Collum, which was lies…

  11. Natnow, Kenny Clark, like other referees proudly tell stories at after dinner speeches about how they cheated Celtic when the refereed in their games.

Yet on radio shows they like to tell us that referees are beyond reproach.

I think we can draw conclusions on that?

  14. Boycotts

An all out boycott is the only way to be successful. A Celtic boycott will be painted in the media as us throwing the toys out of the pram.

An all out boycott of the countries top clubs in SPFL/SFA and Hampden matches.

    League Cup

The boycott should be based on the SPFL chief Doncaster and his removal.

All matches should be boycotting by all signed up clubs until he his removed from position.

If Doncaster is removed then the boycott should only apply to League Cup matches at the national stadium.

The problem you have with such a boycott is as follows:

A: Drawing a rival or a derby match.

B: a team who have not won a cup or been to a final for decades going quite far in the competition.

    Boycott of Scottish Cup matches

Boycott the Scottish cup matches to highlight the incompentence of referees and the incompetence and corruption of the SFA. The demands would be the restructuring of the referee department and a transparency in their performance on the pitch.

Removal of Campbell Ogilvie & Stewart Regan.

Same issues as above regarding teams fans boycotts.

My thinking is the following fans groups would be interested in such a boycott.

    Aberdeen

    Dundee United

    Hearts

    Hibs

    and of course Celtic.

No offence to any other sides but I don’t see them having a huge impact. If they do what to join up then it would certainly help but televised matches are the big impact games. These are the games that get the big exposure.

Any boycott of matches by one single club will have no impact and we will be mocked.

If the clubs fans don;t stand together and work together for better then they only have themselves to blame.

The referee strike should be used as a warning. At no time in the history of Scottish football can I remember referee’s being applauded. During that weekends fixtures there were a number of referee’s applauded when leaving the pitch. That tells it’s own story what the majority of Scottish football fans think about the referee’s in this country. Most will never admit it but a few I know have said openely to me that Dougie Dougie was a landmark moment when a referee admitted he lied and cheated. Yes he cheated. The fans groups and clubs did not back us then and when a decision goes against them I always make the same statement ‘You have no complaints really because you didn;t back us when the referee lied to our manager and cheated’

Some non Celtic fans grudgingly agree. They feel Rangers/Sevco (whatever you want to call them) and Celtic get all the decisions. If that is the case they will be delighted to get transparency and explanations from referee’s on decisions and punishment for bias, cheating, incompetence and lying.

This is the angle that must be taken to get change. Taking on the SFA/SPFL etc on our own will result in little or no change and more of the same. We have been here before.

It seems we are on the verge of an all out walk away from a large amount of fans. I don;t want that to happen. A properly structured boycott and protest is the way to go on this. If Sevco do become a force in the distant future then the fans of the other clubs in Scotland will regret the day they didn;t take the chance for transparency in Scottish football.

As for Regan and Doncaster they are just poor at their jobs. I don;t want anyone to lose their jobs but they are not doing a 9-5 job for low wages they are making a decent wedge and are not delivering. They must be replaced.

Campbell Ogilvie should have been removed years ago. How he is still there ir beyond me.

Just my thoughts on the whole debacle.

  28. Bhoys – BGX is making a strightforward epistemological point. It cannot be proven that the ref cheated. We all find it incredulous, but we will never be able to prove it. If we want to tackle this kind of thing then the system needs to change. Currently it relies on one man’s word about what he claims to have seen or not seen.

  29. Sorry, should’ve written “Kris Commons will be punished for what must have been a forearm smash on the ICT player, on the balance of probabilities

  30. I have given myself a few days to calm down and take stock of Sundays debacle.

Debacle is an appropriate word, both for the officials and our performance.

    Firstly the hand ball !

It beggars belief that 3 officials missed a handball that most people in ground saw from some distance away. The linesman,s view could have been obscured by Griffiths but the other two commanche,s have no excuse.

At the very least this is gross incompetence. Both officials are inept and not suited to this level of football. It was such a blatant and clear cut hand ball. The player clearly did not stop the ball with his head so what part of him made deliberate contact with the ball ??

The only alternative is that they deliberately ignored the infringement. That is very difficult to prove.

Celtic are quite correct in seeking clarification and an obvious public apology .

That wont be easy . I listened to Clark on Sportsound last night and he was sticking to the “honest mistake” mantra !!

This “honest mistake” galvanised ICT. John Hughes told them at half time that their name was on the Cup !! It gave them belief.

Apart from the above, our performance was slovenly. Too many players just did not put in a performance.. The defence, in particular was static and wide open!

Our manager also made the wrong tactical substitutions. Hooking Forest deprived us of the out ball from defence. I am a big fan of Commons but when he has a stinker he has a Carlsberg one !! He was the obvious candidate for substitution.

But we looked tired and leaden footed the whole game. Guidetti’s leveller was fortuitous and merely gave us false hope.

Celtic will need to improve the squad in the summer. That is an obvious.

One position no one has thus far mentioned is understudy to Craig Gordon.

Zaluska is not up to the required standard. He is a bomb scare and prone to rash impulses. How long has he been at the club ?? And yet will never be first choice. He seems content with that situation. We need a keeper who will challenge Gordon for his jersey. Who wants to be first team keeper. Gordon is the best keeper in the SPL but he needs competition for his place.

  31. Its time for a revolution in Scottish Football…..Celtic fans could very quickly clean the stable.

Collective action by a massed Celtic support is the answer.

We spit out the dummy, withhold funds…..there will be no Scottish Football.

Solidarity is all that is needed, to remove these bigots.

They only exist in their capacity as cheats, because we let them.

Challenge them, and they will fold very quickly.
