A case to answer for SFA and Celtic

1175

Referee Steven McLean saw the incident when Josh Meekings stopped a Leigh Griffiths header crossing the line with his hand.  He was 12 yards away with an unobstructed view.  The blame for getting the decision wrong is entirely his.

We can only speculate as to why he didn’t award a penalty.  At best, McLean didn’t believe the evidence of his own eyes and passed the buck to his assistant Alan Muir, who was around 6 yards from the action but with a less-clear view.

Muir did not see Meekings clear the ball legally.  If he was distracted, and failed to see what happened clearly enough, he should have informed the referee.  If Muir told the referee anything else, this is also a failing.

The SFA have a case to answer. Not fit and proper, to use their parlance.

Notwithstanding the fact that if the rules of the game were followed Celtic would be in the cup final right now, they are out because they failed to deal appropriately with the known qualities of Inverness.

Three goals were lost, all of which were defensive mistakes.  A break downfield which caught the defence cold, a cross from the right which was not properly contested with all defenders in position, and a failure to match a back post run (similar to a recent League Cup final goal conceded to Kilmarnock).  Fatigue may have contributed to the final goal but being down to 10 men was not a contributing factor for the first two.

The game should have been won in the first half but we opened the second period off-pace.

Another matter which should be on the agenda at Lennonxtown today is why didn’t we have the right studs on?

It should be someone’s job to make a decision after the team arrives at a ground on which studs to wear.  If the decision was made, the decision was wrong.  If this process was not followed, it should have been.  Either way there is also a case to answer internally.

The statement from Celtic is actually the correct statement……we are asking them to explain why 2 officials had a temporary, and simultaneous full loss of eyesight…….it is what Celtic do when we receive the blatant lie of a response, and there are actions open to us …….. the one example I would give is a refusal to accept away tickets for any fixture for the remainder of this season, and the whole of next season …….. yes, some Celtic supporters will, quite justifiable, get tickets from the away clubs and attend, but our Board will have reacted ……. They will have ‘made a statement’! and they had better understand that we fully expect them to react to this LATEST bigoted ‘assault’ on our Club ……enough is enough…..get them sorted out, Celtic…….. meanwhile, ‘onward and upward’

  4. Thought it was a good statement by the Club they pointed out the general

They generously saluted and congratulated ICT – this ensures we can’t be reasonably criticised for having a sense of entitlement or displaying sour grapes.

It also clearly states why the Club decided to speak out, Celtic are a PLC and a professional organisation and can’t be expected to comment willy nilly or go out gung-ho.

As I said it’s pure conjecture on my part guessing at the SFA’s response, but you can bet it’ll be pure obfuscation.

To face them down we need somebody with inside knowledge to break ranks and give us something with which to build an unassailable case against them. If that is Muir then all the better but he needs to be prepared for the consequences like Craven.

    —————————————————————-

Hell will freeze over before we get someone on the inside. I would imagine even the cleaners are vetted before they allowed anywhere near the their inner sanctum. The cold reality is that we have to do this for ourselves. The letter from the club should just be the start and needs to be followed up thus:-

    1. Next season our sole focus is concentration on the league and CL (as the way into the CL) and to hell with both domestic cup competitions.

    2. The club fields a development squad team in both cup competitions no matter who we are drawn against.

    3. We the fans, boycott the cup matches (home or away) no matter who we are drawn against.

    4. We ban all the MSM from Celtic Park

    5. We win the league as quickly as possible then play our development squad for the remaining away matches

    6. We boycott all remaining league matches after the league has been secured

    7. We demand that all officials declare which teams they support and whether they have any links with professional teams in Scotland

    8. We block any attempts to re-structure the leagues to get Sevco in the top division

    9. Minimal involvement in any SFA/SPFL sponsors activities

    10. Our players pick-up Ryan Giggs type injuries just before international matches

    11. We boycott all SFA XI matches

    12. We refuse to allow them to use CP for international matches or cup competitions

    13. We hoover up all the best young players in Scotland and loan them out to teams abroad and then keep the very best of these.

    14. Basically, we do what’s best for us and to hell the rest of them.

A line in the sand was crossed on Sunday. For me there is no going back.

  14. Celtics statement is a none event.

The humiliation of Dallas was a small battle that was won, but we are willing

Participants in The Old Firm war.

The Old Firm is not dead.

Those that state so are only wishful thinking.

Celtic want the bigot pound as much as the new Rangers that will take their place .

Celtic have no exit strategy from Scottish football.

There role is to play the discriminated victim .

    It’s live theatre.

We have not challenged “The same club ” nonsense .

    Why?

    It is an utter disgrace.

Proving that refs cheat against us is a very difficult thing to do.

It takes one ref to turn on another.

    That won’t happen very often.

Proving they are not the same club should be easy.

Take them and the SFA to court for stating it.

Or is it that we as ordinary fans are all wrong and Celtic have been advised by their lawyers that we would not win such a case?

I suspect it is my earlier assumption.

We are a willing member of The Old Firm game.

Good points, well made …..in my opinion, we need to wait and see Celtic’s reaction to the bigoted response we will inevitably receive…….THAT will be the defining moment in respect of the Celtic Supporters’ reaction…….

  17. Apologies for the post chairbhoy @ 08:18, randomly posted when I hadn’t finished….

But I Thought it was a good statement by the Club they pointed out why they were writing to the SFA regarding Sunday’s match and specifically the “ignored” hand ball.

They certainly can’t through around accusations.

    As iki @ 23:47 states

“The choice is quite simple ………. A lack of competence or an absence of integrity. Let them declare for one or the other.”

The minimum the Celtic team could expect was an explanation and apology the fact is Celtic are asking for just that.

For me this is why Celtic don’t make statements often, with the lack of support they get from the supporters they need to be very careful how and when they make a stand.

This is the third time this year – all have been justified.

    Good for you mate…well done.

Btw….the board tried to give tickets away for one of the recent home games…v’s R.County I think?…to the unemployed folk….not because the board had rediscovered Celtic’s roots but, coz they were embarrassed by all the empty seats on view at CP…brought about by, year, after year, after year of the product on the pitch being ‘downsized’ coz the huns wurny in the same leagues as us…ye see…the Celtic board’s unchallenged ‘downsizing’ of the product on the pitch has come full circle and, guess what?…in all their wisdom…probably planning to sell a higher pitch of SB’s on the back of a treble win…their gig…has come a cropper and, one wonders what crowds will be like for the rest of the season when…Ronny-the fist-pumper…has to lift his crestfallen players who couldny ‘take’ ICT for the 2nd week in a row…who’s fault is that and, will the dearth of attendee’s at Celtic’s reamaining games for the season and…a possible ‘slump’ in SB-sales lead to a pay at the gate scenario…I wonder how the ‘spin-doctors’ of the board sell that gig.

Good luck in getting rid of yer tickets btw.

  20. Morning all.

Beautiful day down here once again.

See yon Kenny Clark, don’t you just love him? Yesterday he was wheeled out by the BBC to tell us Celtic were wrong to try and have some transperancy about Sunday, now he asks us tp accept that he doesn’t believe that TV evidence shows that McLean can see THAT incident clearly. Otherwise, do we think (I slightly paraphrase)McLean is a cheat? Kenny, that is exactly what we are saying. Not only has McLean previous, plenty of his colleagues, past and present, have as well.

Celtic, get us out of this corrupt association, please.

  21. 67heaven .. challenging the lie ..i am wee oscar…… ipox belongs to the creditors

To a man every Celtic supporter should go no where near any away games, or home games when a domestic cup is involved, or indeed any away league games and I mean starting right now, we have to make a stand and man up, this has gone way to far and message has to be sent, as John Reid said, “we don’t want special treatment, all we want is a level playing field” and that means stop the cheating, this whole house of cards has to be pulled down, the sooner the better for the game here in Scotland, it is toxic from top to bottom and if we let it continue, well? We only have ourselves to blame, Celtic Fans, your move?

  22. Oh, it has been pointed out to me that Celtic have lost out financially by not getting to the Final. £1 Million was suggested. Anybody verify how much it could have been?

  23. Odds for a penalty to be awarded in tomorrow’s match at Dens is 12/5…

I said yesterday that I thought that the cheats would pull out all the stops to fabricate the “things even themselves out” narrative. Unfortunately I couldn’t see the price for a penalty and a red card.

Also, there were no odds on when the Daily Record would break a “story” about Muir and McLean receiving threats…

  24. Kenny Clark’s argument being reiterated on Radio Scotland this morning. It goes like this :

No-one can say that the officials clearly saw a handball because what you see on the telly is different to what you can see on the pitch. It looked to me like the all officials’ views were obscured when I saw it on the telly.

    I hope he’s not a lawyer.

  25. TD67,

I agree wholeheartedly with your sentiments but I think, given the pressure the refereeing fraternity are going to put our team under in the remaining games, I would urge every supporter to attend as many games as they can this season to give the team as much support as we can. Next season, imo, is when we should act on what you say.

  26. What’s the SFA response going to be? The referee called it as he saw it as did the assistants how dare you question us Timmy here feel the back of my hand and have another fine.

Everyone needs a reality check this shyte has been going down for 100 years. The club should be asking a real question…..why are there 25,000 of us bending over for the Hun every time we go to hamdung. It’s not to support the team look at what that support got us on Sunday more injustice on the pitch and handsome pay checks and laughter all round to the brotherhood.

I predict 20,000 max attendance at the final – and exactly what brothers ogilvie Maclean etc want i.e. no tims.

  27. IF…….Aberdeen winning the league this season leads to…the re-structuring of what is now called – Celtic PLC – and, a new future is promised with folk of the ilk of, Jeanette Findlay in control of a new Celtic FC…I’d find the money to go back to Celtic Park.
