A case to answer for SFA and Celtic

1175

Referee Steven McLean saw the incident when Josh Meekings stopped a Leigh Griffiths header crossing the line with his hand.  He was 12 yards away with an unobstructed view.  The blame for getting the decision wrong is entirely his.

We can only speculate as to why he didn’t award a penalty.  At best, McLean didn’t believe the evidence of his own eyes and passed the buck to his assistant Alan Muir, who was around 6 yards from the action but with a less-clear view.

Muir did not see Meekings clear the ball legally.  If he was distracted, and failed to see what happened clearly enough, he should have informed the referee.  If Muir told the referee anything else, this is also a failing.

The SFA have a case to answer. Not fit and proper, to use their parlance.

Notwithstanding the fact that if the rules of the game were followed Celtic would be in the cup final right now, they are out because they failed to deal appropriately with the known qualities of Inverness.

Three goals were lost, all of which were defensive mistakes.  A break downfield which caught the defence cold, a cross from the right which was not properly contested with all defenders in position, and a failure to match a back post run (similar to a recent League Cup final goal conceded to Kilmarnock).  Fatigue may have contributed to the final goal but being down to 10 men was not a contributing factor for the first two.

The game should have been won in the first half but we opened the second period off-pace.

Another matter which should be on the agenda at Lennonxtown today is why didn’t we have the right studs on?

It should be someone’s job to make a decision after the team arrives at a ground on which studs to wear.  If the decision was made, the decision was wrong.  If this process was not followed, it should have been.  Either way there is also a case to answer internally.

McLean and his two helpers ( let’s not forget the linesman who had a clear view too ) are either grossly incompetent or cheats.. Either way not fit for purpose … If they remain in situ the game is up

As for our statement .. Embarrassing .. I wish they’d said nothing

I certainly do. I think there has been a kneee jerk to the weekend and it is natural. The long term goal has to involve other clubs we are on the same page. I think that with a lot of posts regarding an all out Celtic boycott it needs raised and raised again that other clubs need to be involved.

Yeah, it’s not like the Dougie Dougie situation, where they were all swearing blind the referee got the penalty decision right.

From what I can gather no ones saying that. From that perspective we are in a different situation.

The referee made a bad decision, a decision that changed the outcome of a match, the semi-final of the Scottish Cup.

For the SFA and Officials to say nothing of this and think that bringing out Kenny Clark who has no official capacity, no responsibility to sweep it away is ridiculous.

Celtic are asking the right questions, we’ll see what answers they bring.

  5. He cheated, he saw it and didn’t give it, he cheated, or he didn’t see it and has poor eyesight, on any one of those two comments, he is not fit to referee and should be sacked .

    Agree with it or not.

Cant we as Celtic supporters gather in numbers in a public place….and protest against this cheating and corruption.

For the life of me….I don’t understand why we don’t show collective solidarity.

  19. After the Dougie Dougie incident the media as a whole told everyone “ultimately he got the decision right” it’s as if they were all sent the same memo. Right now both officials will be getting schooled on what answer to give to the press. If it differs from what McLean said to Griffiths Van Dijk or Brown then Celtic should go to town with them.

    Livibhoy,

    Thank you.

I think as a support we have to embrace other clubs’ supports and play a united role in cleaning up the game.

It is not enough to be just a Celtic supporter. We must also be supporters of the Game.

To do that, we must look outwards and not to treat other clubs as enemies, besides the obvious one!

    They are rivals. Not enemies.

Without a doubt it’s probably a pre requisite, in the SFA unbroken, unbowing unrelenting cabal. They are being faster tracked than Jen Button.

I agree with yesterday’s CQN concencus however, and the locus for Celtic is ‘incompetence’ and for the SFA in general no confidence and not fit for purpose.

You have sort of hit the nail on the head there.

Other clubs view us as an enemy and something to be hated.

Jambo’s I know were sharing the Guidetti slip (dive to them) as an example of the decisions evenening up over the course of a campaign.

Clubs fans are quick to mock and slate each other and not think about what is good for our game.

If the other clubs want transparency in referees that they say themselves favour Celtic and Sevco/Rangers then this is the angle to be taken regarding the change in the referee structure.

Can any clubs fans say that a referee being more transparent be a bad thing????

    Can anyone not support that?

    Surely not.

  28. Boycotts?

Every Celtic fan that can get to a game should go.

Make us as strong as we can be.

Make us so strong that the cheating will fail.

They will always cheat us whether you are there or not.

Making Celtic weaker will only make what they want easier and all that will be achieved is what they want.

Sure, the cheating will stop, but it will stop because we are crap and they wont need to cheat us.

Every Tim should get behind Celtic and make us too strong for them.
