A case to answer for SFA and Celtic

1175

Referee Steven McLean saw the incident when Josh Meekings stopped a Leigh Griffiths header crossing the line with his hand.  He was 12 yards away with an unobstructed view.  The blame for getting the decision wrong is entirely his.

We can only speculate as to why he didn’t award a penalty.  At best, McLean didn’t believe the evidence of his own eyes and passed the buck to his assistant Alan Muir, who was around 6 yards from the action but with a less-clear view.

Muir did not see Meekings clear the ball legally.  If he was distracted, and failed to see what happened clearly enough, he should have informed the referee.  If Muir told the referee anything else, this is also a failing.

The SFA have a case to answer. Not fit and proper, to use their parlance.

Notwithstanding the fact that if the rules of the game were followed Celtic would be in the cup final right now, they are out because they failed to deal appropriately with the known qualities of Inverness.

Three goals were lost, all of which were defensive mistakes.  A break downfield which caught the defence cold, a cross from the right which was not properly contested with all defenders in position, and a failure to match a back post run (similar to a recent League Cup final goal conceded to Kilmarnock).  Fatigue may have contributed to the final goal but being down to 10 men was not a contributing factor for the first two.

The game should have been won in the first half but we opened the second period off-pace.

Another matter which should be on the agenda at Lennonxtown today is why didn’t we have the right studs on?

It should be someone’s job to make a decision after the team arrives at a ground on which studs to wear.  If the decision was made, the decision was wrong.  If this process was not followed, it should have been.  Either way there is also a case to answer internally.

Ah mean, taking off the only player who looked like doing anything, JF and leaving Commons on the pitch…wtf?

As the Peerless King Kojo often said….”if Commons dizny score….what does he do?”

Others clubs are not interested in transparency. There is a childish get it up ye your team have benefited against us before.

This is what we are up against. People have to want better and want change. Currently they don’t. It’s a petty point scoring excercise when decisions go against anyone.

  9. Well the feel good factor and bonhomie amongst us didn’t last long.

Four years ago I spoke about reforms needed to put our game on the right track.

    http://celticunderground.net/sfa-reform-one-down-three-to-go/

The demise of the dark side did not stop that need because the thinking that causes problems to us has not changed, it has just gone underground.

The above suggested reforms will not change that thinking but it sure as he’ll will add a layer of protection against it.

So if you want an aim for a boycott make the reason SFA reform and make the three points in the article the requirement. Even bluenose will want the 3rd and 2nd if they have sense. The refereeing idea night be resisted because of bluenose influence but the evidence that referees need to up there game is unquestionable.

Drop the useless accusations against them that cannot be proven. They suit THEM not us.

Start thinking with your heids and not your hearts.

I’m sure Celtic would love a resolution asking for the above reform because they want it, but you have no idea what they/we are up against.

    Notice they/we –

which is us. All of us and that includes the Board and staff at Celtic.

That requires some of us to change our thinking and that day is coming because although the wheels of Res12 grind slow they are grinding and will grind fine.

To beat the system you have to know it then use it. That means getting off yer arses and joining the CSA or CST.

HamiltonTim is doing that. We need more HTs for there is much work to do.

The CST can advise on putting a motion around SFA reform on the AGM agenda and one of our own troops worked his butt of in 2013 to do the leg work necessary to deliver Res12 . The experience from Res12 can be put to good use.

A resoltion on SFA reform helps Celtic which means ALL Celtic to have a mandate from shareholders to take to the SFA table.

The shareholder route in Celtic’s case is how to make the SFA accountable and that is the purpose of Res12. To let them know skullduggery if observed will not go unchallenged. That is the purpose of challenging McLean.

Now join the CST. Meet HT and attend a CST meeting. Get SFA reform on the agenda. Start working with Celtic on something I know they want as much as us.

Something Hearts under Anne Budge would want or Hibs or Aberdeen or Dundee.

Now get cracking. Stop moaning. I’m on holiday.

    This is the point.

This is what Celtic’s statement is all about.

Getting tore inta them isn’t going to help us one bit.

They can only get away with the “honest mistakes” if they can bat them away or keep them under the radar.

By asking for an explanation it keeps the incident out there and in focus.

    What explanations are they?

Wasn’t the Smith, Peat and Dallas clearout all part of the new era of transparency and openness for the SFA driven by John Reid, Peter Lawwell and dressed up by Henry Mc Leish. Two Englishmen who couldn’t be corrupted and given the Celtic seal of approval. That was certainly this blogs editorial at the time. The incompetents were all getting weeded out.

Then the five way agreement came along and we have had no transparency. No accountability and CQN sponsored lazy journalism.

Steven Craven, Ogilvie elected unopposed, TV deals brokered by Peter Lawwell, Celtic Silence, Tonev, Guidetti, reformed SPL structures, tit for tat news leaks a la Longmuir bonus for dismantling the SL, Unproven verdicts, Resolution 12, Celtic fans being kettled and arrested, Sevco not paying LNS fine …tit for tat leaked, I haven’t even mentioned Neil Lennon tynecastle etc. Ashley dual ownership myopia, Kings approval , SPFL fixture arrangments, King fit and proper, Murray already acting as a director

They backed our gaffer (Neil Lennon) on the referee lies. The referee’s then had a strike.

What more can they do? You can;t run a lone furrow in Scottish football as the rest will turn their back on you.

We must engage other fans and take this to the SFA/SPFL.
