Malmo’s season started well. They were undefeated in their first eight games, recording wins against current league leaders, Gothenburg, and recent champions, Helsingborg, as well as a 2-2 draw at Elfsborg, but form soon slumped.
They’ve only recorded back to back wins in the league once since. Wednesday’s 3-0 over Salzburg is by some measure their best result of the season. Right now, there will be a lot of football fans in Austria wondering how on earth Salzburg are out of the Champions League. There’s a fair chance there’s just as many fans in Sweden wondering how Malmo remain in the competition, but there are clues.
Salzburg lost narrowly to Rapid Vienna days before the capitulation in Sweden, the second reversal in two league games this season. They beat a team from a regional league in the cup (0-7) but that and the 2-0 win over Malmo is the only positives in an early season full of panic.
Preseason friendlies are not to be regarded as an indication of anything, but home win over a weak-looking Southampton was the only friendly in which they avoided defeat in four attempts. At most this indicates their fitness was behind the curve.
The most telling inferences from all of these stats is that the margins between success and failure for Malmo, Salzburg, and Celtic, are tight. We could and should have beaten Maribor a year ago. Dedryck Boyata’s late goal against Qarabag transpired to be all that separated us from them. We are looking fit, and organised, but you and I both know we’ve yet to spark up front. We have a lot of work to do in the margins before the end of the month.

Debate in there last night as to who was better for us, Lubo or Naka. It was pretty even. Lubo for me, but the wee Jap was some buy
Guinness. Decent enough drink but owned by Diageo, who ripped the heart out of Kilmarnock by relocating Johnnie Walker distillery.
Won’t touch any of their stuff.
Hi Fholks, on the Megabus fae Dundee tae Glesga for the game. Any recs for somewhere to eat afterwards down the west end, other than Cail Bruich (c.WHD). TVM.

I don’t visit here as often as I used to either.
Harder to navigate
Much slower to load
All the adverts (and I appreciate costs have to be covered) make the site look cheap.
On the plus side, I like the league table being readily available.
Sporting integrity preserved with accidental goal balanced out by letting opposition score from kickoff.

I could be cynical and say if that happened against us the ref would blow for full time… Or we’d miss the walk-in goal. :)
Good morning friends from a rather drizzly and grey looking EK.
God help us if If Paul 67 ever decides to flounce……………………….
I’m sure there are times when he could do without the headache.

If you are on a smart phone the latest blog by Paul is at the top of your screen. The preceding article is just below. If you are on a tablet or desktop the most recent article is always top left and the one before top right.
Click on the heading to take you to the comments where you can post as normal.
On desktop & tablet there is a black band at top with various categories – Lions & Legends etc – which are packed with great Celtic features. You also have the latest news etc up there. On smartphones you can find this in Navigate box at top and the most recent articles are also shown below Paul’s two most recent blogs which are set as Sticky.
You can only comment after Paul’s posts which have a distinct CQN BLOG & COMMENTS graphic. The other features are all illustrated by a photograph, usually from Geo who attends all games for CQN and doesn’t get the credit he deserves.
If you click on CELTIC QUICK NEWS at the top panel this will bring up all of Paul’s blogs with the comments section at the bottom of each blog, without having to worry about anything else.
We will post details of an App you can download for your smartphone later today – heading to Firhill shortly so no time now.
On the wee space beside your name – we are trying to add Celtic images. Have figured out how to add one for everyone but trying to sort how we can update each one by request.
Hope you enjoy the new site more as a result of the above explanation!
EK grey and drizzly? Well I am staying in bed then. Until kick off that is.
Bought a couple of Android boxes as Livibhoy had said not the greatest for football. Excellent little gadgets for films/boxset.

FLIGHT RIP OFFS.
Earlier this year my pal and family wanted to go to America with a company advertising direct flights from Glasgow. Went to book and said it was a bit steep. Agent searched again we can do same days for £400 less per person from Manchester. It was start of our school holiday period.
He goes with that as four travelling and that’s a big saving.
Gets the train down. Early early morning.
Does the check in in. Notices the flight time works out near 12 hours.
Asks the check in desk.
Yes but that’s because we stop in Glasgow for pass angers there.
Added seven hours end to end door to door.
Now that’s a rip off.
He did manage to change return flight to get off at Glasgow. No issue at all.
But my god what blatant profiteering.

Thanks Mate,I had a pint with Melbourne Mick today and his opinion was the marauding huns.I”m leaning towards the Royal Family-german descent .Nobody knew the association With Rangers and “the penny arcade”. Keep well and thanks again.HH

Can anyone tell me when we actually started calling The Huns “Huns” and the reasons for it. Also what is the significance of their song “the penny arcade” I got into a debate the other day and would love to show these people I am truly informed and not punchy. Thanks in advance!!! HH
————————————————————————————————————————————————————-The term huns was first penned by a journalist working for the Wolverhampton Express and Star when he described Rangers fans visit to the town in the early sixties as akin to the town being invaded by “hordes of marauding huns”. This was reported back in Scotland and the term stuck.
I have heard that the Penny Arcade song was adopted by the huns to commemorate the sectarian murder of a Roman Catholic in an amusement arcade in the mid-eighties.
http://www.nytimes.com/1986/09/18/world/catholic-killed-in-belfast.html
Given their song Bouncy Bouncy is also linked to another sectarian murder, I am willing to accept this is the case for Penny Arcade.
They really are the scum of the earth. Huns is far to nice a term for them. HunScum is what they are.

My friends in Celtic,
I do not wish to be disrespectful to PT today, however we should give as many “fringe” players game time as possible. If fit, I think we must persevere with Scepovic for the whole game.
To state the obvious we must score goals against Malmo and if our £2 m striker is not up to the task then we must accept that he is another failed striker. We do not have the luxury of time.
A few days ago, a prominent poster mentioned a hypothetical loan deal for Balotelli. Most of us didn’t agree, however he was absolutely correct in that we must think outside the box. Any money we would get for Scepovic could be used to fund a loan deal which must be a more fruitful option. ( I would expect that John Park et al would have a potential list of possible candidates )

Thanks mate. I agree with u. I’ve got some good info to help my debate.HH
GCCTIM @5:47,
You brought a smile to my heart, Chairbhoy. Guess you made way for me at St Andrews, I started in 74 but Whinhall end. Wonder if I ever got an Elastoplast aff ur Da’s van. Hail Hail from Dubai.”
Apologies for the late reply, was on Papa duties and had the crazy idea I was going to find some CQN time. You don’t know if they’ve found a cure for that Lanarkshire wee mad mental gene do you;-)
Yeah, looking back it is funny, whinhall was his run, so it’s quite possible with the Elastoplast but if you got chocolate, ice cream, a roll or a fag before the age of five, you almost definitely got something from the van. You elders will definitely know.
It was a busy round, my Dad had a yard in Coatdyke and could restock four times in an evening.
Hope you liked your time at St Andrews, it was a good School. Mrs Kane was my favourite teacher.
Hope your enjoying Dubai – KTF

BSR/Auldhied,
Understand there are simmering issues and there’s a lot about Res 12 I don’t know. But my take, unless there’s a smoking gun, would let bygones be bygones, not in any forgive and forget type of a way, but just for moving forward, when they come up we’ll need to deal with them – but use a lang spoon.
And Auldhied, read your piece on Alex Thompson’s blog, totally agree, very disappointing lazy journalism from him. If you compare and contrast that with Prof Roy Greenslade’s blog on the Mirror/Record Kirk Broadfoot ban that gets to the heart of the matter.
Pity is he’s been here before, as someone pointed out, he knows the succulent lambers and knows fine well you can’t dip your toe into these issues.
I really do think it is worth Celtic putting the time and effort in to distinguish us.
Hail Hail
Friesdorfer try Sputinis next door to Tennents bar on Byres Road -Italian. Great scoff the a couple of pints in Tennents celebrating our win. Hail Hail Hebcelt

Yes agree we have lost the Vital Spark up front – sunk without trace :-)
Our players need to play into our front man with better quality balls. Some of the attempts to find our Big Turk the other night made him look slow and cumbersome and lost us possesion. The option to hold and bring in our attacking mid was almost non-existant. If Griff plays he has to constantly drop off for a touch but at least he he can get a good accurate and powerful shot away from most angles.
The really good news is how we came through the last euro tie without losing a goal. The goal we did lose in Iceland was so bizarre it might actually have helped the players to discuss and agree how to cut out any future errors in vital games
The tie v Malmo is mouthwatering and what this club lives for. Nothing guaranteed and good to see early comments raising concerns about our weaknesses and the strengths of the opposition. Mutual respect with and for opponents is a good thing.
We take nothing for granted in Scandinavia, but our receord there overall is positive.
Watching Nir develop and play is one of life’s wee pleasures. Unhurried and calm with the ability to do something unexpected. Adds spice to the game for me.
Winning Captains
Like the news site as so much info available and as we learn to navigate the pleasure will be enhanced. Still getting the ‘reload’ and have to re-enter password thang on ipad4 sometimes!
Good work and a wee thanks to Geo.
Hope we get a good performance and result at lunchtime today and won’t even try to guess the team.

Corkcelt………….I should go to Mass more often but pray every day, hope that gets me to the promised land. Great day of sport ahead and will be cheering Waterford my late dads county.

I think there might be a few changes today, Not sure of the injury situation, but this is the type of game where the squad comes into play.
I also have a feeling Scepovic will get on the score sheet today.
Penny arcade is a practice tune for learning to play flute.
Friesdorfer, if you don’t want anything a la carte, the University Cafe on Byres Road is marvellous and their ice cream is really good.
Spoiled for choice on Byres Road and on Great Western Road between Hillhead and Kelvinbridge for places to eat.

We must know each other !

THOMTHETIM<, I'm glad you posted that, I assumed bankie was quoting the song. Now I have often misheard lyrics myself, so I didn't want to jump in.
P67, Winning Captains & Geo, a lot of us just like too moan about change, I also struggled with the new site but trust me your work is well appreciated, this is the only site I have ever posted on and the new look Cqn encourages me to read the other articles, a job well done and cheers for giving us somewhere to moan
Hail Hail
Gordon_J I concur we have two players imo who have still to show what they can or cannot do Scepovic and Ciftci. One is surely in the last chance saloon the still has some time, funnily enough both strikers but then they are usually judged on goals scored, everybody else I think we know their capabilities. Looking for a 5-0 today lets make a statement. Hail Hail Hebcelt

I haven’t been to Celtic Park since the CL game with Man U when Scott McDonald scored for us. The little one came along then and money has been tight.
Booked flights last night to get over for the Malmo home game. 10 more sleeps !
