Abada’s potential

284

Don’t take this to heart too soon, but Liel Abada has the potential to eclipse anyone else currently in the Celtic squad.  The natural instinct he has demonstrated inside the box since he arrived as a teenager two years ago, is gold dust.

The Great Swede was 26 when he came to Glasgow, having spent most of his days on the wing.  At Leil’s age, he was also waif-like and was far from capable of being the focus of an elite attack.  Wim Jansen knew what was hidden from others and together they rewrote history.

I could not be more delighted our Israeli Star is secured until 2027.

  1. First window I never stayed up for …ever.. I just knew……I knew because BRs demeanour gave it away.

Reminded me of an ex manager colleague who I met in a supermarket couple of weeks ago, he left for a new job and was quite excited about it, alas the people who sold it too him weren’t quite upfront and had not been totally truthful and he was sick as a parrot.

Part of me ( the very cynical part ) is thinking my goodness you’ve been stitched up well and truly and surely it’s not deliberate ???….surely not

When we sold Jota and Starfelt I honestly never thought we’d make a profit on ins and outs !!…up until 2 or 3 weeks ago …then I knew ….Reading yesterday McAtee away to Sheffield United and the boy obviously had good experiences there last season…but…there’s always a but…did we try ?…hard enough?…..wolves still got a winger we thought ( or BR did ) was quality?….Wednesday was the day we should have put a couple of nails in ….that would really have shifted momentum

With the Board placemen on here already gunning for Brendan, I couldn’t rule that out.

    Hail Hail

  3. I had a fair idea when P67 put up the Abada piece that nothing notable was gonna happen yesterday.

From the bombast of a couple of days earlier to being reduced to writing about a contract extension on transfer deadline day – the clue being the word, transfer there and we’re hearing about an extension…

  4. Good morning CQN from another dry, mild Garden of God.

Thank goodness the window is closed.

Now lets ALL get behind Brendan and the Bhoys for manana and the rest of the season.

Do I think Liewell and the board shoukd not be there absoloutley, but lets unite and support our beloved HOOPs.

  5. I think it was Albert Einstein* who once said that;

“The definition of insanity is expecting Celtic FC to sign players that I have not yet identified…”

*nb Einstein later denied ever saying this

  6. “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”.

What sort of results are you after for a football club?

It’s like 5 trebles in 7 years is failure.

  9. If we could get home wins on October 4th & Dec 13th and a point in any of the other games it would be a decent campaign.

  10. Well, the dust has settled and Brendan has his squad.

Must say, I’m relatively happy with the final transfer day. Loan deal from Liverpool could be useful.

I’ve probably recalibrated my expectations for this season. Win the league. Classic double with the Scottish Cup? Yes, I’d be happy with that.

Avoid any euro drubbings and show some maturity at that level.

I still believe we are weaker than last season- my opinion only. I am unable to offer specific players we could have signed, that is not my area of expertise. My background was in financial and manufacturing industries.

Line in the sand time, the league Cup is gone. We drive on from here.

    Let’s make more history

  11. Insanity seems to be celebrating 10 titles in 11 years and 5 trebles in 7 as success, while endlessly debating the minor failures of the personalities involved in it is perfectly sane.

Online, our obsession with winning trophies has been replaced with an obsession with arguing about people. Directors salaries, players we didn’t sign 5 years ago, did Brendan get what he wanted, is he happy, who signed who.

Winning seems to mean something completely different online. When we have 5 trebles in 7 years described as insanity I think it’s reached the point where all reason has gone.

  12. Brendan yesterday

“It’s the model of the club,” he said. “It was suggested when I first arrived that there was going to be £10m and £15m players. But the club has a model that is sustainable for the club and they’ll work to that model. That’s where it’s at and it’s proven to be successful.”

  13. “I think every manager will tell you by the end of the window that they always wish they could have done more in certain aspects. But I think it’s an ongoing situation here.

“Whatever we can’t get because of either availability or affordability, then we move to the next window. In between times, I’ll work with the players who are here and look to develop them.”

Rodgers continued: “There’s no doubt (the transfer market is tougher). So many things have changed and evolved in football in the four and a half years I’ve been away.

“If you look at the different markets that can attract players now, the finances involved and the wages there are in the Premier League for players who you won’t even have heard of, it’s a huge challenge for clubs up here to compete with that.”

  14. We all know who is responsible for this shambles Peter Lawwell.

He has all his puppets in place including his rookie project masquerading as Head of Recruitment.

Defeat tomorrow will be on Lawwell and the failed cabal.

No amount of spin from his media puppets will twist the narrative — think McGowan will be smart enough to read the room. Some will valiantly try and the sheep will follow. They are to be pitied.

  15. and still the problem positions have not been addressed , goalie , left back and striker , but don’t worry we have plenty wingers.

  16. Brendan’s line up for Ibrox will tell us all we need to know about his thoughts on the window.

I suspect Nat will be the only starter but we’ll see.

  17. Tomorrow is the toughest fixture on our domestic calendar. The hostile environment will be something new and challenging for any of the new players that get selected. It will be frantic too, challenges will fly in and if any players are not up to speed they will get caught out. The ref, as usual, can calm things down or let it “flow”.

They effectively nullified / dominated the middle of the park in recent games by having an extra player in there and by keeping Calmac quiet. Thankfully they have been poor in front of goal and error prone at the back.

Not that Brendan will, but I would start Iwata as DT and MoR have no physical presence whatsoever.

A loss will not be the end of the world, we will get a lot stronger when Reo, CCV and Nawrocki are all back playing.

  18. The CL fixtures aren’t great.

I didn’t want atleti back to back. I like a home game to open up as it gives us the best chance of getting early points on the board.

We’ve also 2 away games in the last 3 games which limits the chances of gaining points once the likes of CCV come back.

  19. BURNLEY78

Kitty O’Shea’s opens 11:30 tomorrow for the game.

When you enter the pub, take the first left and you’ll see the room on the left.

  20. Well it certainly looks like Brendan has been sold a pup.

If he doesn’t get what is needed in January, I would expect him to walk.

    Shambles of a window

  21. We all knew that we needed a goalkeeper, a left back, a centre half, a beast midfielder and a centre forward.

    How many did we get?

Go on, Peter, polish the bank balance.

  22. But, Abada signed a new contract.

So forget all about what we needed.

    More like Pravda every day.
