Abada’s potential

284

Don’t take this to heart too soon, but Liel Abada has the potential to eclipse anyone else currently in the Celtic squad.  The natural instinct he has demonstrated inside the box since he arrived as a teenager two years ago, is gold dust.

The Great Swede was 26 when he came to Glasgow, having spent most of his days on the wing.  At Leil’s age, he was also waif-like and was far from capable of being the focus of an elite attack.  Wim Jansen knew what was hidden from others and together they rewrote history.

I could not be more delighted our Israeli Star is secured until 2027.

    Wakened up to find out Hasabanovic has been Ajetied, hope there’s a buy option, good start, clears the way for Palma, Yang , or one or two others on the left berth, where Saed never quite got going. Seems Liel Abada’s partner is happy with Scotland good news for us. A boost for Abada’s potential selection tomorrow which could see us ;

    Hart

    Johnston Lagerbielke Scales Taylor

    O’Riley CalMac Turnbull

    Abada Kyogo Maeda

Brendan will tempted to debut new signings, no point in giving any clues beforehand, so his side could include Palma, Bernardo, and Phillips for all anyone knows. No shrinking violets need apply, with Celtic already with historical justification, concerned over security, we need to hope Celtic find some missing early season and early in match form.

Expect our front three hopefully all of them, will unpick Sevco’s dreamy back line whilst they push forward trying to score. BR has assembled by far and away the best array of talent in the country, tomorrow would be a good time to stamp the credentials that got him the job, on new club’s stolen ground.

“Our gaffer is not a stupid man. He chose his words today”

    ———————————

I’ve been puzzled by Brendan’s statements to the media on more than one occasion. And to be frank, I find them difficult to understand or interpret. Too many people rush to “interpret” them as proving their viewpoint i.e. he is seriously pissed off with PL interference or DD parsimony.

But I find it impossible to square the view between “He is an intelligent man” (which I agree with) and he has made his views clear. Last time he was here he used “side of the mouth” complaints and dog-whistling statements about “too many wingers” to communicate his supposed emotions. The one thing they weren’t was clear; the number of interpreters who came on to tell us what he really meant was proof that the communication was, ahem, “interpretable”.

Now he is using factual statements about the club’s football operations “The club recruits within its planned process and I will work and develop the players I’m given”. That is factually correct and what he signed up to, without complaint , at all previous clubs, including Celtic first time around. But he delivered this factual explanation in such downbeat, surrendering terms that it left the support shaken and drawn to an explanation that the old strife within was back.

But, how did a clever man allow this to happen. He didn’t have to come back to Celtic- he would easily have got better paying gigs than us. But, in agreeing to come back, he must have satisfied himself and gained assurances on how things that annoyed him last time, were going to work this time. So, he signed the contract and bought the terms.

Now he is saying things that alarm us but are not clear. They sound suspiciously like CYA statements- (Cover Your Arse). It sounds like “things might go wrong but I’m only the monkey- speak to the organ grinder”.

In short, from the moment he has returned, he has not sounded like the old Brendan, who was bullish, confident and with a good conceit of himself earned through previous successes.

So, why, if he got the terms he wanted to persuade him to return to this gig, has he not walked after this window, or spoken in clear terms, to the support, that he is unhappy about what is happening and he feels let down. He could say this and resign or be sacked if it was not rectified, and he’d still be an employable manager with a well paid job in the immediate offing.

It is all really quite difficult to square. The simple explanation- “the old trouble rearing up”- is simple to the point of simplistic. He is just back in the door- how could it go wrong so quickly?

Of course the simple explanation is the most agreeable one to many in our support. We do like our Bogeyman/Scooby Doo Myths- If it wasn’t for those damned suits and the biscuit tin – we’d easily qualify from 2 or 3 CL Groups (Spoiler alert- we did this and we weren’t happy with our managers and suits then either.

Any deviation from the simple Myth of Big Bad Board & Poor put-upon manager sees you portrayed as a “board placeman” or a “less ambitious” Supporter.

Well, if anybody on the board is reading this, and why would you be doing that, can I ask Whatever Happened to the Placement Money- I’ve no been paid yet for deviating from the norm.

If the well-rehearsed theories are right and it’s

How hard is it to say to the fans- “I got assurances when I came here but they are not being kept

“Brendan told us he was here to make a mark in Europe, which we didn’t.”

    ———————————-

I assume you mean first time around as BR2 has not had a chance to fail in Europe yet unless there is a European Transfer Window Cup?

If his failure was first time round, did Brendan not land us our first post-Xmas knockout tie match win?

Now, now…I suspect, a clever man like you knew exactly what I meant in the ‘entirety’ of my message, that you cherry picked one line from. The very thing you forensically examine when people dissect what was said in an interview or press conference.

Don’t be at it. You’re better than that.

Your obsession and over-thinking, over-analysing each pearl that drops from Brendan’s lips is quite worrisome

He stated yesterday he knew how to win and he was going to teach his players how to win

That was a strong positive message and I’ll go with that

    Hail Hail

  8. Lots been said this week for and against. Proof of the pudding is always in the eating. Let’s see what happens tomorrow, too close to call for me. Champions league will all be down to managerial pragmatism. Avoid kamikaze tactics and we might get somewhere.

  9. VALE BHOY on 2ND SEPTEMBER 2023 10:29 AM

When is Lawwell’s lecture on how difficult it is to sign the right players due?

No need, there’s plenty on here, who will gladly do that for him

  10. I’m always fearful of Ibrox visits. We have lost more often than we win or draw there. If we lose, it will have little to do with the Transfer Window, as very few of them will feature as starters (I would guess just CB’s Lagerbielke & Phillips). If it happens, it will have more to do with the moribund form we displayed in front of goal in our last two matches.

But, if Brendan has recovered his training ground mojo, while he has lost his less important Press Conference mojo, then I feel we will match them and I am forecasting a draw, which will seem like a defeat to them.

I can’t see too many starter debuts- I’d expect

    Hart

    Johnston Lagerbielke Phillips Taylor

McGregor O’Riley A.N. Other( Turnbull or Holm or Iwata)

    Abada Kyogo Maeda

I’d expect to see Yang and Palma as impact subs.

I’m predicting 1:1 and Greg Taylor to have his best game of the season.

  11. Slightly lost in the anti-climax of last night but do like the look of Bernardo from the dreaded YT clips. Looks a better version of MoR.

In terms of improvement, he only needs to be better than Turnbull if we can accommodate Hatate and of course the undroppable Callum McGregor.

All a bit ironic, given we could have turned Matt into an £8.5m profit.

    Stack em high midfielders

Your obsession and over-thinking, over-analysing each pearl that drops from Brendan’s lips is quite worrisome

Why is it an obsession when I comment and “think” about what he says? Why is it not so when you, and many others to be fair, analyse them and speculate (sic) about what he is clearly (sic) saying? Ar you worried about yourself and others or only me? If it’s just me you can rest assured that I have a long history of dealing with jibes about being “obsessed”- it’s a popular internet meme for those who do not wish their reality to get exposed. Over-thinking is a new one as I usually get criticism for its opposite, so that one is welcome.

He stated yesterday he knew how to win and he was going to teach his players how to win

That was a strong positive message and I’ll go with that

It was and is, though some interpreted it as quite arrogant. See what I mean about the opaqueness of some clear speech! Anyway, I hope he’s right in that but you might try to answer my central point which was……..

Why doesn’t he say clearly that he’s fed up and let down? Why doe he leave it to interpreters? Why will he wait till the next window to walk- why not now? And, most importantly, is he really upset and fed up about Celtic’s business or still quite chilled and, maybe even bullish.

I would like some proper clarity in my clear speaking.

  16. St Stivs amd hot smoked – thanks for the comments. Just my tuppence. Many will disagree.

SFTb – it’s that AN Other in midfield that is bothering me more than anything. I’d like tosee us set up the midfield to choke the game early on. Stifle them, kill the atmosphere, negate the press and Amy attempts to try and spook us. A disciplined shape in and out of possession.

Other than that I think that’s a team to start a game like this where we need legs and level heads above all else.

As an aside, Much as I’d like someone to empty tik tok, I think the smart thing tomorrow is to provoke him.

I’m also going to see if paddy Power will give odds on cantwell doing the ‘make more noise’ gesture to the fans when he wins a throw in gesture at least three times. Utter gimp of a boy.

Aff oot as folk used to say in here. Have a good one.

big jimmy, what price for either team to get a penalty ?

    ………..

I cant find THAT Bet on BET365 so far ?

What I CAN tell you is that TAVENIER is ONLY 3/1 to score at anytime, so the Bookies KNOW that the Huns have a great chance of getting a Penalty.

    HH Mate.

  18. No new goalkeeper.

    No new left back.

    No new striker.

We should be hammering sevco into the ground. Instead, we have opened the door and invited them to march on through. We never learn.

Any celtic supporters who are happy with the way we are being run need to increase their expectations.

  19. bournesouprecipe on

Not concerned in historical visits to iBrokes to play Rainjurz with the Ian Andrews Tony Cascarino’s or even Beachball Sundays when viewed in comparison to the game tomorrow.

Celtic and Brendan especially claimed the derby so fiercely they had to ban our supporters, from their stadium in an attempt to gain every advantage a new club needs.

The result should it go against, won’t alter the overall equilibrium because we have an infinitely better squad and tried and tested manager.

  20. The huns stifle the midfield, press and look for turnovers from mistakes. Like everyone else, they’ll sit on Callum and negate our play.

Their press at times is shambolic, especially with Dessiers up front, but Raskin and Cantwell are effective at this level off the ball. Once turned, I have no confidence in our defence to keep a clean sheet against decent opposition. We hve a one paced midfield who struggles to get back in the same scenario.

Who presses best against 2 poor defences may well be the winner. We could also go all deep block and hitting on the break.

There could be goals. Lots of them.

Its a difficult situation for BR- MOR clearly more creative than DT but perhaps a bit lightweight for a derby? DT slows play down in my view.

Big powerful ball-playing boys at the back, intelligence, drive and vision in the middle, and pace and guile up front.

Tremendous options from the Subs including Bain, Ralston, Taylor, Scales, Bernardo, Turnbull, Yang, Maeda and Oh.

No big move for Rocco ?

In a hurry for the big money, or or a hurry to get in the big team? Celtic appear to have hung on to Rocco Vata for the time being. Miles from first team squad oven readyness, the problem for these young players is where to be developed and it’s somewhere between the sporadic Celtic B team and the first team squad.
