Aberdeen 1-3 Celtic

884

Celtic blitzed Aberdeen with three goals in the opening 11 minutes in what at that stage looked set to be a drubbing, but the hosts pulled a goal back in the 12th minute, which set a parity for the remainder of the match.

Leigh Griffiths has had to be patient this season but he made the most of his starting opportunity tonight. The opening goal, came from his corner, which was headed into the net by Dedryck Boyata. Patrick Roberts had a clear chance to open the scoring seconds earlier, but Aberdeen keeper Lewis turned his effort behind.

The second Celtic goal arrived on the 8th minute. There was nothing really on when Griffiths collected the ball wide on the right, but one cheeky nutmeg later and the Aberdeen defence were chasing shadows. Leigh crossed and Callum McGregor fired a shot which was blocked by Logan. The rebound fell to Stuart Armstrong, who contorted his body to make a contact good enough to score.

Again, there was little obvious danger when Leigh Griffiths collected the ball 30 yards out in 11 minutes. The Celtic striker took on two defenders before cracking a shot from 24 yards, which moved and deceived Lewis before smacking the back of the net.

At this point Celtic looked more likely to score six than to settle for three, but, remarkably, the fourth goal of the game arrived just a minute later, when Jonny Hayes lost Kieran Tierney with a quick change of direction before thundering one into the top corner from 23 yards.

unspecified-54

It was now Celtic’s turn to rock. Perhaps the game’s most important subsequent moment came after just 14 minutes when Stockley lost the Celtic central defenders, but couldn’t make contact with a cross 7 yards in front of goal.

Celtic’s passing in recent weeks has been exceptional, but they didn’t get this right on a choppy Pittodrie surface, as the unforced error count spiked. The ball rotation we have become used to seeing this season didn’t happen often, underlining the importance of suspended Scott Brown.

  1. Hunderbirds are Gone on

Back home after weekend trip to Embra to see Mrs H’s daughter.

Good weekend, finished off nicely today by using a gift card Mrs H had been given back in April for a Forth Boat Cruise. Lovely day, sunny, warm, with blue skies. We set off from South Queensferry and made our way down the Forth to Inchcolm Island. Interesting wee Island which has wartime gun emplacements and the well preserved ruin of a 12th Century Abbey. Quite a place as you can enter virtually all of the rooms of the Abbey.

Saw some seals and puffins en route, then headed back West, passing under the three bridges. The rail bridge and the new Queensferry crossings are really striking illustrations of fantastic engineering engineering.

All in all a fascinating trip that I would thoroughly recommend if living in, or visiting Embra.

Two comical incidents occurred. When walking on Inchcolm Island from the Abbey to one of the wartime gun emplacements, we strayed off the path for about twenty yards (in spite of helpful signs to the contrary). The ground nesting gulls, that were all around, took severe insult at this intrusion and proceeded to noisily proclaim their displeasure as they swooped to within an inch of our heads. Eventually the inevitable happened and one let rip with their formidable weapon for such occasions. Like tracer canon shot from a Spitfire his foul smelling ammunition managed to hit both of us. Gull sh*t smells fishy. Really, really fishy

Finally as we tied up back at the launch site in South Queensferry, the audio recording that they play all through the cruise, which offers an entertaining commentary of the various points of interest, was offering us some safety advice on disembarkation. The proclamation to “Mind the gap”, had me inadvertently sniggering inside, and as I looked up, I saw a fellow sailor smirking also. A brief knowing glance and a smile passed between us. No words required. What a time to be a Tim :)

Pete, I never said I doubted him, I said I haven’t seen enough of him to form an opinion. I would hope BR wouldn’t have spent that kind of money on a duffer so I’m reasonably confident he’ll be a Celtic player.

I’ll wait till I see him play in the team before spunking my load over him though if you don’t mind.
