Aberdeen 1-3 Celtic

884

Celtic blitzed Aberdeen with three goals in the opening 11 minutes in what at that stage looked set to be a drubbing, but the hosts pulled a goal back in the 12th minute, which set a parity for the remainder of the match.

Leigh Griffiths has had to be patient this season but he made the most of his starting opportunity tonight. The opening goal, came from his corner, which was headed into the net by Dedryck Boyata. Patrick Roberts had a clear chance to open the scoring seconds earlier, but Aberdeen keeper Lewis turned his effort behind.

The second Celtic goal arrived on the 8th minute. There was nothing really on when Griffiths collected the ball wide on the right, but one cheeky nutmeg later and the Aberdeen defence were chasing shadows. Leigh crossed and Callum McGregor fired a shot which was blocked by Logan. The rebound fell to Stuart Armstrong, who contorted his body to make a contact good enough to score.

Again, there was little obvious danger when Leigh Griffiths collected the ball 30 yards out in 11 minutes. The Celtic striker took on two defenders before cracking a shot from 24 yards, which moved and deceived Lewis before smacking the back of the net.

At this point Celtic looked more likely to score six than to settle for three, but, remarkably, the fourth goal of the game arrived just a minute later, when Jonny Hayes lost Kieran Tierney with a quick change of direction before thundering one into the top corner from 23 yards.

unspecified-54

It was now Celtic’s turn to rock. Perhaps the game’s most important subsequent moment came after just 14 minutes when Stockley lost the Celtic central defenders, but couldn’t make contact with a cross 7 yards in front of goal.

Celtic’s passing in recent weeks has been exceptional, but they didn’t get this right on a choppy Pittodrie surface, as the unforced error count spiked. The ball rotation we have become used to seeing this season didn’t happen often, underlining the importance of suspended Scott Brown.

  1. Are we all pretending that Dembele wasn’t agreed in January? There were plenty if posts about it.

OK we’ll give Brendan the signing its still a 50% success rate can you really trust this man with Borini ;o)

Maybe the fact Moussa signed a few months before Brendan ????

Unless you are suggesting Brendan “tapped him up” before being announced Celtic manager

  3. How can Dembele deal have been agreed in January when Fulham and the player agreed deal to go to Spurs only for it to fall through on the last day of the transfer window?

  4. Hail! Hail!

I knew that GFTB would have a great day. The 12 hour shutdown was perhaps a blessing on this Fatima weekend. A whole half day without political shite?

Another blessing was that you were spared my 5k updates….

Computer viruses allowing, I will be in Lisbon tomorrow. The good lady is reconciled to a week of me slabbering on about food and wine whilst I get all emotional at the EN on Wednesday, she truly bears a heavy burden.

    Take care everyone. HH

Ok so wiki is wrong and the Official Celtic site is wrong

Both say Dembele signed in June as Brendan Rodgers first signing

Will you email both ( wiki and Celtic) and tell them to amend their records

He was signed in January by the previous manager

I ‘ve just watched a recording of Sportscene. In the Dundee Ross County game , Dundee keeper Scott Bain was involved in an incident with County’s Craig Curran which coud have been a penalty . No mention of it in the post match round up on Sportscene.

Not sure what Wiki is ????

Moussa Dembelle signed a pre contract with Celtic about 5months before Ronny won his second title :-)

It was a done deal before the PlC board started interviewing…..or maybe Davie Moyes gave the Plc board the heads up…… Dembelle was signed before Ronny delivered his 2nd title…..don’t believe Wiki, go with the facts

  11. The Dembele deal was flagged in the MSM in January but Gary is correct. Spurs had a deal and a fee agreed & it fell through at last moment as Fulham wanted to stitch in a loan back deal.

This re-opened the door for Celtic but Dembele was in a position to sign a pre-contract & obviously he didn’t.

It’s also obvious from Dembele’s interview that he spoke to Brendan before signing.

If Brendan didn’t want him he wouldn’t have been signed. Brendan wanted him so as far as I’m concerned he was Brendan’s first signing. Sinky was another excellent signing, Gamboa maybe a bit iffy but wouldn’t give up on him yet. Kolo well hard to say, but in any case it was just a 12 month job & so no harm done. De Vries would have to be rated as a flop.

  12. Bourne, he passed the medical OK both at Spurs & Celtic but Fulham wanted to keep him till the end of season even though it meant dropping 5 million.

Wiki of course is short for Wikipedia ….but you knew that

Of course Wikipedia is often incorrect

I would be more inclined to follow the official Celtic site which concurs with Wiki

So if it is a fact that the previous manager signed Dembele last January can you corroroborate this please.

    Cork Celt

I think Gamboa has been decent any time he played

  14. Gerry old pal, I hate disagreeing with you but am pretty sure nothing was signed till after Brendan arrived.

He certainly had a medical in Glasgow on 28th June & signed contract after successful completion.

Regards the new Huns pulling out of the Development League in which they finished 6th last season, they needed permission from the SFA. The move had the blessing of Malky Mackay, the SFA Performance Director. Now, given that Malky and Brendan have a very close relationship, we can be very confident if this was such a great innovative idea we would be at the forefront of it. As we are not, we can therefore see it for what it is. Lillian Gish.
