Aberdeen 1-3 Celtic

884

Celtic blitzed Aberdeen with three goals in the opening 11 minutes in what at that stage looked set to be a drubbing, but the hosts pulled a goal back in the 12th minute, which set a parity for the remainder of the match.

Leigh Griffiths has had to be patient this season but he made the most of his starting opportunity tonight. The opening goal, came from his corner, which was headed into the net by Dedryck Boyata. Patrick Roberts had a clear chance to open the scoring seconds earlier, but Aberdeen keeper Lewis turned his effort behind.

unspecified-55

The second Celtic goal arrived on the 8th minute. There was nothing really on when Griffiths collected the ball wide on the right, but one cheeky nutmeg later and the Aberdeen defence were chasing shadows. Leigh crossed and Callum McGregor fired a shot which was blocked by Logan. The rebound fell to Stuart Armstrong, who contorted his body to make a contact good enough to score.

Again, there was little obvious danger when Leigh Griffiths collected the ball 30 yards out in 11 minutes. The Celtic striker took on two defenders before cracking a shot from 24 yards, which moved and deceived Lewis before smacking the back of the net.

At this point Celtic looked more likely to score six than to settle for three, but, remarkably, the fourth goal of the game arrived just a minute later, when Jonny Hayes lost Kieran Tierney with a quick change of direction before thundering one into the top corner from 23 yards.

unspecified-54

It was now Celtic’s turn to rock. Perhaps the game’s most important subsequent moment came after just 14 minutes when Stockley lost the Celtic central defenders, but couldn’t make contact with a cross 7 yards in front of goal.

Celtic’s passing in recent weeks has been exceptional, but they didn’t get this right on a choppy Pittodrie surface, as the unforced error count spiked. The ball rotation we have become used to seeing this season didn’t happen often, underlining the importance of suspended Scott Brown.

    Dembele wasn’t a Rodgers signing

Ok I am relying on Wiki here but

On 28 June 2016, Scottish Premiership club Celtic signed Dembélé on a four-year contract

Rodgers was appointed manager of Scottish Premiership champions Celtic on a 12-month rolling contract on 20 May 2016,

So if the above is correct then Brendan became manager in May and Moussa signed in June

How is he not a Brendan Rodgers signing

Forgive me if I am mistaken I am not trying to score points

    Enjoy your day off.

Incidentally I was up in your place last Monday and Tues.

I was on a training course and my place booked your building as we have a lack of space.

I met a couple of the people I know. J.C whose bhoy is with Sunderland and A.M. who was going to play lunchtime 5s. I also banged into a guy who I haven’t seen for 20 years, funny enough being a Sevco man, he wanted to talk about anything bar football, as soon as I mentioned it he couldn’t wait to get away. He wasn’t like that in the 90s. :-))) His initials E.C.

  19. France Under-20 striker Moussa Dembele has signed a four-year contract with Scottish champions Celtic, who have allowed forward Stefan Scepovic to sign for Getafe on a permanent basis.

Dembele was out of contract at Fulham, who will be due a development fee.

Scepovic, 26, who was contracted until 2018, has been sold to Getafe after spending last season on loan there.

Dembele, 19, scored 17 goals for Fulham in 46 games last season and is Brendan Rodgers’ first signing at Celtic.

He joined Fulham from Paris St-Germain as a 16-year-old and made his debut for the London club in a Premier League game against West Ham United in November 2013.

His goals helped Fulham avoid relegation last season as the London club finished 20th in the English Championship, two places above the drop zone.

Dembele told Celtic’s website: “To be the first signing of Brendan Rodgers is unreal for me.

“He told me that Celtic is a good team for me. I will have game time. I obviously have to show I can stay in the team.

“I think it’s a good way for me to progress. It’s unbelievable for me to play for a massive club like this.”

Stefan Scepovic in action for Getafe against Real Madrid

  20. Fulham agreed deal with Spurs in January to sign Dembele. A fee had been agreed and Moussa passed his medical 2 days before transfer window closed. The deal fell through as Fulham wanted him back on loan until end of the season to help them avoid relegation.

  21. BABASONICOS71 on

If Brendan’s ok with Borini i’m ok with him too.I’d guess that he has as much ability as most of our squad and look what Brendan’s got from them so i’d imagine he can get the best from him too.I have total faith in the manager.

Would prefer Batistuta in his pomp but that’s a non-starter obviously. ;)

  22. From the Offishul Site/ 28th June 2016

CELTIC are delighted to announce the signing of Moussa Dembele from Fulham on a four-year contract, beginning on July 1.

The talented striker becomes Brendan Rodgers’ first signing of the summer and the highly-rated 19-year-old Frenchman will join up with his new team-mates for pre-season training in Slovenia.

Dembele joins the Hoops from English Championship side Fulham where he moved to at the age of 16 after starting his career in France with Paris Saint-Germain.

The teenager enjoyed a successful debut campaign, winning the Premier Academy League with the club’s Under-18 team, before starring for the Cottagers in the Premier League and the Championship, where he scored 17 goals in all competitions last season.

The forward’s stunning season unsurprisingly made him a much sought-after player in the summer transfer window, and Celtic have won the race for his signature.

Moussa Dembele will speak to Celtic TV later today. More to follow on the official Celtic website.
