Aberdeen 1-3 Celtic

884

Celtic blitzed Aberdeen with three goals in the opening 11 minutes in what at that stage looked set to be a drubbing, but the hosts pulled a goal back in the 12th minute, which set a parity for the remainder of the match.

Leigh Griffiths has had to be patient this season but he made the most of his starting opportunity tonight. The opening goal, came from his corner, which was headed into the net by Dedryck Boyata. Patrick Roberts had a clear chance to open the scoring seconds earlier, but Aberdeen keeper Lewis turned his effort behind.

The second Celtic goal arrived on the 8th minute. There was nothing really on when Griffiths collected the ball wide on the right, but one cheeky nutmeg later and the Aberdeen defence were chasing shadows. Leigh crossed and Callum McGregor fired a shot which was blocked by Logan. The rebound fell to Stuart Armstrong, who contorted his body to make a contact good enough to score.

Again, there was little obvious danger when Leigh Griffiths collected the ball 30 yards out in 11 minutes. The Celtic striker took on two defenders before cracking a shot from 24 yards, which moved and deceived Lewis before smacking the back of the net.

At this point Celtic looked more likely to score six than to settle for three, but, remarkably, the fourth goal of the game arrived just a minute later, when Jonny Hayes lost Kieran Tierney with a quick change of direction before thundering one into the top corner from 23 yards.

unspecified-54

It was now Celtic’s turn to rock. Perhaps the game’s most important subsequent moment came after just 14 minutes when Stockley lost the Celtic central defenders, but couldn’t make contact with a cross 7 yards in front of goal.

Celtic’s passing in recent weeks has been exceptional, but they didn’t get this right on a choppy Pittodrie surface, as the unforced error count spiked. The ball rotation we have become used to seeing this season didn’t happen often, underlining the importance of suspended Scott Brown.

No worries mate, and we live in different times from the natural Celtic and Holy Cross produce, such as the McStay’s of Larkhall.

This is the new Celtic age where we’ve been gifted an ‘open goal’ from a basis properly rebuilt in 1994, when our club survived opposition fraud n’ cheat.

It will always be like this now that the playing fields are level.

  7. Is anyone buying this nonsense about Sevco abandoning the Development League?

This is exactly the spin that was put on them creating a company to “sell” their own young players to the old Rangers, and exactly the same as the spin which greeted the “JJB” deal. Both hailed as innovative deals, both subsequently revealed to be signs of a club in dire financial straits.

How on earth does it benefit their young players to swap regular competitive games for ad hoc friendlies (assuming other clubs even want to fit these in?)? What benefit is it for Man Utd to send their youngsters to Glasgow in between their own league structure? It’s insane.

And finally, is this the “Rangers” that Scottish football needs so much? By waving them off, the SFA is once again proving just how craven they are in the face of an Ibrox club blazer – but also inadvertently confirming that Scottish football does not, in fact, “need”any kind of Rangers at all.

    What a farce.

  8. Looks like a hun on sevco media has solved their cashflow problems, get the wimmin to the games.

When you think they can’t be any more stupid, they confound us again :-)

“I was at a football game in Spain two weeks ago, and was also in Italy late last year to see another match. What I noticed was the amount of women at the matches either on their own, with kids or a partner. I would take a stab and say at least 1 in every 6 was female.

With us wanting to continue our trend and be the most supported club, could we tap into this market and encourage females to attend games? It doesn’t mean you have to bring your wife along but, is there potential to fill out more season tickets and matches? It would generate extra income.

    Some ideas…

    – Upgrading the toilets so women feel comfortable. Maybe include a hairdryer and some perfumes on sale.

    – Bring a female friend to the game and get in half price. Women love going to events in groups. Like a group train ticket discount, this is something we could offer in one of the stands

    – Make one or half of the stand for all females and allow them to drink e.g. 3 drinks per half. Women love to socialise with a glass of rose. Again it would make them feel comfortable with the atmosphere, surrounded by fellow girls.

    – A half time event to pass the time e.g. bingo. We do the half time raffle but perhaps a bingo game where we could have an ex player call out numbers could work? £1000 prize. Some special guests could be nominated in advance e.g.Amo as the ladies loved him

    – A choice of food e.g. salads or baked potatoes to encourage them to spend money at the game. Not many women at Ibrox eat curry pies etc so this could go down well with a change of menu for the ladies stand.

The extra income would help us invest in the stadium and transfer kitty.”

  9. just watched huns highlights. Stobnewall penalty not given to Hearts,, And 2nd goal a blatant foul by Garner on goalkeeper.how does Madden get aweay wuth uit? ps Development league…why are they allowed to withdraw surely all clubs must play in this? Or can they not afford to play?

  10. Italiabhoy

So instead of being beaten by Scottish teams in regular competitive matches they want to get to play meaningless friendlies against a wider world.

The old Rainjurs trashed reserve football because they were going under, and now look?

  11. Bournesouprecipe,

Agree, but go on FF and they genuinely think this is a masterstroke!

I am constantly astounded of forehead at just how stupid their fans are. A Nigerian prince could turn up with a monorail and, as long as he was wearing a blue rosette, they’d all chip in to buy it.

    Morons. Total, total, morons.

  12. Been out since about 2 o’clock. CQN had been down all morning. When did it come alive again?

I wanted to say that I learned yesterday that Thursday 25th is Ascension Thursday this year. 50 years ago it was Corpus Christi. I imagine it will be a public holiday in Portugal. Should add to the festivities which unfortunately I can’t be at on the great day.

  13. I went to WHL once, years ago. it was about the size of Easter Road, in a grim part of town, and the view I had was dreadful.

Good luck to them moving on, but you wonder whether things are about to head south for the UK economy, and London in particular. …

  14. ITALIABHOY

It’s a gift to laugh at what they think, and they’re bound to want a masterstroke, but only because its all they have.

They can’t afford to run a full development side, so they will play a few games v Tranmere Galicticos.

Badge it up as a new and exciting ( see Keith Jackson ) and our Zombie will lap it up.

You’ve gone for your tea/dinner and I’m just back from mine. There’s no schism. I agree with your forty comment but at least the weekend observance gets more people to acknowledge the feast through worship than retaining the Thursday and a Holy Day of Obligation. As with allegiances and why we play for one team and not another, things change.

  16. That was poor from Spurs surely they have more legends than that. Embarrassing

I know Greaves is ill but where was Lineker

  17. I sent an email to Celtic asking if the SSE concert on 25th May could be broadcast over Celtic Tv last week, but, so far no response. I have heard that a signal is going back to Paradise but don’t know if that’s true or not. If it is, then surely it would be relatively easy to broadcast it on Celtic Tv.
