Aberdeen 1-3 Celtic

884

Celtic blitzed Aberdeen with three goals in the opening 11 minutes in what at that stage looked set to be a drubbing, but the hosts pulled a goal back in the 12th minute, which set a parity for the remainder of the match.

Leigh Griffiths has had to be patient this season but he made the most of his starting opportunity tonight. The opening goal, came from his corner, which was headed into the net by Dedryck Boyata. Patrick Roberts had a clear chance to open the scoring seconds earlier, but Aberdeen keeper Lewis turned his effort behind.

unspecified-55

The second Celtic goal arrived on the 8th minute. There was nothing really on when Griffiths collected the ball wide on the right, but one cheeky nutmeg later and the Aberdeen defence were chasing shadows. Leigh crossed and Callum McGregor fired a shot which was blocked by Logan. The rebound fell to Stuart Armstrong, who contorted his body to make a contact good enough to score.

Again, there was little obvious danger when Leigh Griffiths collected the ball 30 yards out in 11 minutes. The Celtic striker took on two defenders before cracking a shot from 24 yards, which moved and deceived Lewis before smacking the back of the net.

At this point Celtic looked more likely to score six than to settle for three, but, remarkably, the fourth goal of the game arrived just a minute later, when Jonny Hayes lost Kieran Tierney with a quick change of direction before thundering one into the top corner from 23 yards.

unspecified-54

It was now Celtic’s turn to rock. Perhaps the game’s most important subsequent moment came after just 14 minutes when Stockley lost the Celtic central defenders, but couldn’t make contact with a cross 7 yards in front of goal.

Celtic’s passing in recent weeks has been exceptional, but they didn’t get this right on a choppy Pittodrie surface, as the unforced error count spiked. The ball rotation we have become used to seeing this season didn’t happen often, underlining the importance of suspended Scott Brown.

They do. Had a look on FF, their head of youth (mulholland) is a visionary and we will be copying them in years to come.

Conveniently they ignore the fact we did the playing the development team in friendlies around England when the reserve league folded (due to them not being able to afford a reserve team). It was a waste of time and abandoned as nothing can replace competitive football. We now play our youths in Europe and in the EPL International Cup, as well as playing in the domestic league. Tierney, Ralston, Johnston etc are testimony that we are on the right track.

Here is a fun fact on Eurovision song contest night while we discuss Lisbon

In 1974 the coup against Salazar the Portuguese dictator was started by a coded message played on National Radio

The coded message was the playing of the Portuguese song for the Eurovision.upon hearing the song the Officers and men who were ready to overthrow the government made their move ……and appointed OLDTIM emperor for life of Scotland and Portugal

Looks like this Warrington v Martinez fight could be stopped after an accidental clash of heads after Dickson v Ward was stopped after an accidental clash of heads. Ward won on count to point were fight was stopped when his head split and blood was running into his left eye. Martinez has a massive lump of fluid growing under the skin above his right eye on his forehead. If it keeps getting bigger or it takes a punch it’s going to splat open too.

    MWD,

Not to tear the a.se out of this, but the experiment to which I referred was in seeing how the defence coped under pressure.

Holding midfielders are not, nor ever will be, the forte of Armstrong, Calmac or Rogic and Brendsn will be well aware of that.

I am not speaking in hindsight, because I flagged the imbalance before kickoff, on reading the team lines.

I believe Rodgers took a calculated risk, with back up on the bench.

The three early goals gave him the necessary slack to persevere.

As long as Mc.Innes thinks they would have won if it wasn’t for those pesky early goals, then it all worked out well for us.

I’m fed up of these cheap sites constantly coming up with permutation after permutation of which Celtic player is leaving… to Arsenal, to Liverpool, to Manchester United, to Tottenham… back to their Mam’s… anything to justify their Internet presence and the revenue that might come with it and perhaps, to satisfy their anti-agenda. Point taken, and I’d love to think that that kind of loyalty is being bred in the current squad and that the players know there’s more to life and football than the extra money. It’s easy for me to say, but if there is a team that provides offers different “extras”, it’s the one we support.

Jozo – Looks like a fit Jozo could be the most accomplished Centre back we’ve had this century. defends like an italian from the days of Franco Baresi. Wouldn’t look out of place in front of Buffon in that Juventus defence.

Teirney – A proper ‘wonderkid’. All-in honest player with great engine and ability. Best youngster I can remember coming through in my time wathcing Celtic? Maybe not the swashbuckling sensation that was Chick Nick, but certainly a better professional and Celtic through and through. Best full-back since McGrain.

Broon – Refined, responsible captain hewn from raw tearabout, reckless barnstormer. Was it Lenny who harnessed the Broon horsepower properly? Somewhere in the past few season’s Broony’s gotten focus, confidence and purpose perfectly balanced and his game is beyond anything I ever expected from him. Just refer to his CL stats to see what a fine player we have, as well as a popular, driven captain.

Wanyama – Big Vic the Barcaskelper. Helped us attian CL levels we have dreamed of since. Bargain buy, fitted in quickly with his efficient foermidable style. Sad to see him go but remembered fondly. now proving his worth in the EPL, much to the Scottish hacks’ chagrin.

‘He’s no as good as Bawwy Bawbag…’

Kris Commons – Hunskelper supreme. Arrived on a wave of apathy, proved to be the most astute signing in the past decade; delivered us titles, CL and greetin’ Huns by the hunners of thousands. Unassuming lad makes legendary impact.

Scotty Sinclair – One season, yes, but brought a dimension we’ve missed since Larsson – lightning feet and speed of thought. He’s been dynamic, terrified opposition, defied his latent reputation for being a slacker; haven’t seen the bhoy hide for a moment this season – and if we can improve our on-field communications with him and up his service, we’re going to be thrilled.

Griffiths – Comical anarchistic genius. Sparky had the blog in uproar as hands were wrung and knickers twisted over his off-field karaoke career; thankfully those of us prepared to give a man a chance to prove himself didn’t go wanting – actually managed to score more goals than weans fathered.

Hooper – Poor Gary, became the classic career-arseing-up money-over-glory modern football cliche. Before his pockets and belly swelled with filthy lower-tier EPL lucre he was poised to become an England striker, aiming for World Cups and Euros after his dynamic goalscoring feats with Celtic had his star flaring brightly in the firmament. Hunskelper extraordinaire, fitted perfectly in that Celtic side and ate up the service. Sometimes wonder if he watches the Hoops european games on TV, wondering what might have been. Us too, mate.

  24. Just seen a clip on the news that Sturgeon has admitted worsening literacy and numeracy under her watch – and that doesn’t include Diane Mc abbott :))

  25. Reading about Davie Provan and his battle with ME and some of his symptoms.

I have a different condition and it’s also horrible as Davie said, that you can be in a lot of pain 24/7, and no one thinks that your unwell ?

Cos you are not bleeding, doesn’t mean that your okay ?

I know I am getting worse , and there’s no cure.

if I had the money, I would probably get drunk 4/5 times a week to null the feckin pain.

I’m assuming he’ll wait until after the Cup Final, to see us get the treble first?
