Aberdeen 1-3 Celtic

884

Celtic blitzed Aberdeen with three goals in the opening 11 minutes in what at that stage looked set to be a drubbing, but the hosts pulled a goal back in the 12th minute, which set a parity for the remainder of the match.

Leigh Griffiths has had to be patient this season but he made the most of his starting opportunity tonight. The opening goal, came from his corner, which was headed into the net by Dedryck Boyata. Patrick Roberts had a clear chance to open the scoring seconds earlier, but Aberdeen keeper Lewis turned his effort behind.

unspecified-55

The second Celtic goal arrived on the 8th minute. There was nothing really on when Griffiths collected the ball wide on the right, but one cheeky nutmeg later and the Aberdeen defence were chasing shadows. Leigh crossed and Callum McGregor fired a shot which was blocked by Logan. The rebound fell to Stuart Armstrong, who contorted his body to make a contact good enough to score.

Again, there was little obvious danger when Leigh Griffiths collected the ball 30 yards out in 11 minutes. The Celtic striker took on two defenders before cracking a shot from 24 yards, which moved and deceived Lewis before smacking the back of the net.

At this point Celtic looked more likely to score six than to settle for three, but, remarkably, the fourth goal of the game arrived just a minute later, when Jonny Hayes lost Kieran Tierney with a quick change of direction before thundering one into the top corner from 23 yards.

unspecified-54

It was now Celtic’s turn to rock. Perhaps the game’s most important subsequent moment came after just 14 minutes when Stockley lost the Celtic central defenders, but couldn’t make contact with a cross 7 yards in front of goal.

Celtic’s passing in recent weeks has been exceptional, but they didn’t get this right on a choppy Pittodrie surface, as the unforced error count spiked. The ball rotation we have become used to seeing this season didn’t happen often, underlining the importance of suspended Scott Brown.

  1. Evening all, will be packing my bags tonight for the trip to Lisbon tomorrow. Stopping off at my favourite Lancashire hostelry before flying out on Monday. The weather in Lisbon looks set fair and seems we will catch the tail end of the Fatima feel good factor.

On the subject of the church, good luck to GFTB and his family tomorrow, hope the day goes well as I know you hardly mention it and it doesn’t mean much to you ???

I will raise a glass to you tomorrow teatime.

Yes I will be at mass and gym tomorrow but will not be cooking. Take care everyone. HH

Jimmnotpaul, my wife banned me from watching our televised games , for a short time, due to all the shouting I did at the telly.

Clydebank have won the Central League cup three times in the last seven years .These finals were at Newlandsfield , with the last one they won being on my pal’s 50th birthday.

In the 2011/12 season , Shotts won the Junior Cup, got to the Central League cup final and were promoted to the top division . Tony was pleased to get Shotts promoted but would have preferred to have done so as league winners.

In saying that , they had to play seventeen games over a five week period.

Jimmynotpaul, regarding Raith Rovers being demoted. When John Hughes was appointed I thought he would do a right good job and possibly get the Rovers near a play off spot.

I saw his interview after they were hammered by St Mirren and he was not a happy man. By the sounds of it he had no faith in his players and really got tore into them.

  4. I’m another who gets more tense watching the game on TV. I usually turn the sound down (certainly for SKY). Being at the game is an altogether different experience. I think part of it is that you have a vastly better all round view at the game, when you’re actually there. Watching on TV, you are reliant on where the camera chooses to focus.

JNP, in the short time I have known Dallas he still gets annoyed about games he attended in the 80s I can appreciate how sometimes not watching is easier, and obviously at the game it’s probably easier as your not listening to the guff from the pundits/commentators :-)

In all serious, our health is our wealth so we need to put that first……just back fae the chippie & the off sales for a wee bit of grub and a night cap…..if I am still on here after 10pm get one of the Mods to delete my account, never mind a post :-)

    Well said, young man.

I was in Aberdeen that night and it was a ground out result.

I thought last night turned into a practice for CLQs, where our defence will be under more pressure than domestically and we counter attack.

However, we need to clone Scott Brown.

Jimmynotpaul and J McCormick , thank you for the advice .

No problems, if you are using that 24 hour monitor then it seems you are taking the right steps. I did that stuff also, like you work was a driver of the symptoms.

Just listen to the professionals and sort out your own priorities , then you are more than halfway there. You cannot buy good health.

  12. If yesterday proved anything it is that we need Broony. We played without a “stoppper” but nonetheless we won well. BUT, we did endure a fair bit of pressure from Aberdeen , which to be fair, our defence coped well.

Now, if Aberdeen had taken the chances which came, who knows how the game would have turned out.

Just so long as we learn.

Champions League will show how well we have progressed, I;m sure we have bit by how much we shall see.

Fairly confident we will reach the knockout stages , a lot depends on the draw.

Much appreciated, i hope your loving watching this Celtic team under Brendan, am pretty sure you will be, great Celtic times :-)

  22. I know the, it was a CLQ test match mantra is playing well on here. But I don’t buy it. For me it was just a poor display once Aberdeen got their goal. We lost control of the midfield and defensively, individually both Boyata and Siminovic were being caught on the ball and/or rushed into poor passes out of defence due to the sheep coming at us. We were overall just fortunate they were and are pish in front of goal or they could have had a couple more. That said, even though we were poor decensively both in defence and midfield we were still capable of adding a couple more goals.

It was only when Bitton came on for Rogic that defensively we shored up. If Brendan was using it as some sort of test then I’m pretty sure that change would have happened sooner than it did as Rogic wasn’t working.

We all know also that that lineup will not play if Brown is available which he is for the CLQ’s.

Aberdeen last night hit us with all they have and proved to come up short even with the high ball pressure.

Brown was the difference last night and Brendan will know he will have to find as composed a player for the future when Brown eventually drops a level, something that isn’t going to happen soon.

Anyone know if the St mirren player Steve Mallan is related to former Celt Jimmy Mallan 1940s-50s? Thanks in advance

  25. thetimreaper on

Brown gives us some key attributes, physicality and power, leadership and organisation, and he will take the ball under pressure and get us playing. So far Kouassi only looks to possess the latter quality, a bit like Bitton. Broonie is 32 next month, it remains to be seen if Kouassi can fill the void in the case of injury or suspension and in the longer term.

    10 trebles in a row, don’t rule out a cuppla…

Europa league trophies being flung in as well….

    point I’m trying to make is…..as PAUL67 said…..

NFL – “If, in the fullness of time, it is proved that I lost medals, trophies, titles etc,….because another club was financially doped, then I’ll be wanting them all back!”

NFL didn’t sit at the back of the bus, but, when NFL proved that his team were being cheated on the pitch by the mibs, the Celtic PLC board flung NFL under a bus !!!

    Hmmmmm……???

Can you imagine the, eternal, hunlike shame of both the…..

Celtic PLC board and, the Celtic supporter base of today if, it’s left to a former Celtic manager to take up the fight to get the cheated hun trophies stripped whilst, the Celtic PLC board are away playing masonic golf and, the Celtic supporter base of today are tucking in to they’re mountains of jelly n ice cream as, pub team after, pub team is skelped ???

  34. Brown would be my player of the year, surprised he never got the club award. Sinky has been great in bursts but had plenty of no shows whereas Brown has been consistent from day one.

And I say that as someone who has posted previously that Brown has been overrated by many on here.
