After they hatched their plan to blackmail Scottish Football League clubs into voting Newco into the First Division, Stewart Regan, Neil Doncaster and David Longmuir might have paused to wonder what reaction they would receive.
You better believe they didn’t anticipate the reaction today from Clyde and Raith Rovers. Rovers chairman, Turnbull Hutton, told BBC Scotland’s Jim Spence, “If we are at the stage of bending rules and accommodating, threatening and blackmailing, we want to give it up.”
“Bending rules… threatening… blackmailing…we want to give it up”.
Hutton went on to suggest heads should roll at the SFL, SFA and SPL. He’s the first from within the football establishment to call for sackings but he’ll not be the last.
An extensive statement by Clyde FC concluded, “The papers include a proposal to allow a Newco to enter the 1st Division. This is contrary to the rules of the SFL and nothing within the papers justifies this proposal.”
Regan, Doncaster and Longmuir will now be contemplating that their bully-boy tactics will fail. SLF clubs will vote against their recommendations and SPL clubs will not stop promotion from the lower leagues based on merit. It looks like abject failure of leadership.

It’s no less mental than the Pornstar adviser in this story.
This story has a limitless number of crazy possibilities.
Woke up this morning to a full three bus load of orange flute bands at the bottom of the road today. Locals in the street thought it was funny until I told them the words of their songs.
Use the local toliets, no just pish on the street, sing your usual vile songs – as one fat hun sings “Glasgow Celtic pedeofiles etc” Met him in the supermarket after the event, “still singing your pedeo songs?” said I. “No orange stewards here”.
I enjoyed the look of fear on his coupon……………….

you’re fishing now!
Here is the scenario.
They don’t get it together for this season. Reorg of leagues next year but they have penalty points and we loan five or so young guys to lower team like Peterhead or Clyde. They don’t get promoted 1st time and struggle to pay rent on stadium which is owned by others. Gradually crowds decline as thoughts of quick glory fade and before we know it they are beyond life support.
GB banner to welcome Dons?
A sheep with a big grinning face and the word RESPECT 2012?
Or am I getting too soft in my old age?
Burnly78,
complete overhaul of the refs dept needed before that scenario has a chance.
Hail hail from Espana, or Epana as the locals in Granada were chanting. They take away S whereas the SFA take the P.
Spent a lovely day and night with my family enjoying the first class hospitality of THe Exiled Tim and his lovely wife. True Celtic people! Also got to swim in the most aesthetically pleasing swimming pool in Europe!
TET an absolute joy conversing on all matters Celtic and non-tic again amigo!

I wouldn’t get too excited as to the name of the source … it’s what he told Alex Thomson, and at length, that is important.
‘An extraordinary conversation’… ‘a senior Hampden Park insider’…

Evening bhoys and ghirls.
TBB’s post on page one of this thread is excellent, and so is ItaliaBhoy’s immediately before it. Ghuys, keep up the good work.
If TBB in particular is still around, I would love to know his view of what the SFA’s motives in being caught up in the bullies’ charter might be. The SPL and the SFL may just be reacting to a carrot (money) behind dangled in front of them. The SFA stance is much harder to understand.
I come back to a point I have made a couple of times during this saga. The Scottish Football Association is one of only four FIFA associations (out of 209) to have a role on the International Football Association Board, the body that controls the rules of the game. It is the second-oldest football association in the world after the FA. It views itself as a big cheese in football’s history and as a custodian of the traditions and integrity of the game.
It is making itself into a laughing stock. Stewart Regan and Campbell Ogilvie are undoing almost 140 years of Scotland having a wee stake on the footballing moral high ground, in spite of its own past mistakes. If it wants to continue to look the rest of the football world in the eye, never mind being one of the billy big shots who decide on the rules of the game, it needs to sort itself out double quick. It is probably already too late.
OG
Im pushing it with this question, but do you think administrator of the decade CO will be getting his plush UEFA office later this year?

Terrific piece in the Guardian today, from the great Scottish journalist and social commentator Ian Jack. Topic was modern day “Networking”, but the conclusion is that it was a return to the more shadowy connections of yore. He might have been out of Scotland too long on that one but he did relate one example from the past which I found interesting.
” In Scottish newspaper offices in the 1960s, it was still possible for colleagues to have mysterious conversations to discover the Masonic credentials of the other. (In a conversation about Kirkcaldy I once told an older colleague, ” My Mother comes from there.” “Your real mother?” he asked meaningfully. In heavier industries, promotion could depend on the reply.”
Got me wondering what the modern equivalent might be, (Kirkcaldy in the black book that’s for sure), could it be something like, ” I support St Mirren”, or ” I’m an Airdrie man through and through”?
In which I wonder about the operator of the “Rangers” website, and am rather surprised to see who the only Director is. I also look at the possibility that the liquidator of Rangers Football Club PLC could end up taking court action for payment against Rangers.co.uk Ltd, now owned, presumably, by one variant of Sevco. I am also happy to see that Mr Green is quicker with his forms than Mr Whyte was. Finally I consider whether there is the slightest possibility that the administrators could have missed the chance of raising additional sums for creditors.
