Admin less likely in short term

Robbed of the ability to accept credit cards, or roll-over Standing Order fans’ payments, by all accounts season ticket renewals at Newco Rangers has been considerably less than those of fellow lower league club Hearts.

Notwithstanding all of this, the Ibrox club’s remarkable PR people this morning published an article titled “Season ticket waiting list”!  Waiting list!!  Every word is priceless.

I’ve long maintained that anyone looking for a strategy in any of this was misguided but one thing you can be sure of, the lawyers will be giving advice on when to flush the club down the lavvy (ven.).

Newco have banked season ticket cash from a few thousand people, giving them a liability to stage football games until May next year.  If they are unable to stage those games, they cannot spend, or continue to accept, that money.  None of this was relevant before deadline day, but the extended deadline passed yesterday, so the club now have their primary indicator of how much income they will receive this financial year.

If the board believe they do not have enough income to finish the season, they must stop spending – and accepting – season ticket money, and ask the court to appoint an administrator.  Despite the apparent inevitability of this, the board can roll the dice for a while yet.

They can reasonably claim to have an expectation thousands of more tickets will go before the season starts, or that the club can embark on another share issue, but in the meantime, they must continue to pay wages and other costs.  Cash is king when you don’t have bank support and hundreds of staff will continue to earn wages over the summer months.

Wages and other costs will need to be met for May, June and July, before Newco’s biggest vat bill of the year becomes payable in the first week in August.  Ticket sales would need to pick up incredibly in the coming weeks to see them through this.

I don’t expect administration this week.  The club has cash in the bank, has a theoretical chance of turning things around and, as far as we know, is meeting all liabilities when due.  The more likely time administrators would be required is when creditors cannot be paid on time.

There’s an interesting media angle on all of this. Graham Wallace is a hired professional, there to deliver a future for a football club in distress, no more and no less. Sections of the media compliant with ‘the rebels’ (cough) are now telling readers he has made several sackable offences.

It suits King & co if anyone with a modicum of competence to leaves the premises. This campaign is brutal, but remember, don’t go looking for a coherent strategy, there isn’t one.

Speaking to season ticket renewals

Saturday’s magnificent Scottish Cup Final had a fitting home at Celtic Park but the Celtic show only rolls on if you, me and tens of thousands of our close friends want Celtic succeed as much as Newco’s fans want their club to fail, by buying our season ticket.

The most important ticket deadline in football is THIS FRIDAY, 23rd May.  Be there, or be less shamrock shaped.  When it comes to supporters, faithfulness trumps loyalty any day.

After watching St Johnstone win the Scottish Cup, in what was a genuinely thrilling final on Saturday, you could not come to any other conclusion that this was a fantastic season for Scottish football.  Celtic were irresistible in the league, Aberdeen and Dundee United resurged, Motherwell were again Best of the Rest, which is not quit the league title it could be, but still an achievement.  I’m loving the game this way.

Congratulations to Atletico Madrid for achieving what seemed impossible only a few months ago.  Congratulations also to Barcelona fans, who applauded the league winners in recognition of that achievement.  There are some good guys in the game.

Yes, Oldco have quite a record of loyalty to the national side with their players often openly undermining the manager/coach, making themselves unavailable for certain games and for poaching the myth at a crucial stage of a qualifying campaign.

And their moronic support take great delight in booing our players in the team and yet they are so quick to criticise a player who dares to choose to play for Ireland instead of submitting to their bile.

I didn’t know that story about Waddell. He did Scotland a favour though. IIRC, Docherty immediately brought in more players on merit and Scotland’s performances improved.

Great credit and more exposure is due to the club for this gesture.

Well done John Paul and everyone involved.

  4. scotlands shame on

Problem of Scotland inadvertently shown on commonwealth program on Bbc1. After math of Glasgow derby an half a dozen rangers fans. 3 or 4 start singing illegal sectarian songs an the policeman next to them walks away. Flies in the face that they don’t arrest as too many to wade into but only 3 there. Yet the police ignore it an allow it to go on. Scotlands shame

  5. Watching this programme about the regeneration of the east end, dalmarnock in particular. They are doing a piece on Celtic and them highlighting the sectarian element. One of the the guys who owns a few shops in the area takes them to a close where there is a red hand and a butchers apron flag draped on the railings. When asked by the tv crew why they had been brought there, the response was (paraphrasing) I just wanted to highlight the sectarian murder. I checked this out on the web, there was absolutely no suggestion in any of the reports that this was in any way linked to religion, it was in fact reported as a large scale disturbance and the guy convicted had previous for violence. Very very poor journalism.

  6. Scotland’s shame

It’s certainly very strange that the hordes are allowed to spew their bile without fear of arrest in light of Police Scotland’s avowed aim to stamp out displays of sectarianism. I wonder how many arrests will be made this coming weekend when several big marches are happening.

The big joke for me is that the OO are now trying to equate their hatefest to the likes of Mardi Gras. Give me strength!

I honestly think that most decent, right thinking people are revolted by their antics and they will wither on the vine, just like the football clumpany that is /was their totem.

Why were you so offensive to Winning Captains on Friday such that the session with TG was nearly cancelled?

I used the phrase two faced which was clumsy and apologised when logging on Saturday.

Linking my concern with cqn fraternising with the daily record and cancelling TG is and was absurd and frankly an over reaction – something that the mob do very well here.

It’s behind me. You still seem to be on a crusade. Remind me of your role here again in the blog ?

    ……………………………………………

    Big Wavy

It was a simple question which you have chosen to answer with aggression and denial.

I like to come on here and not find playground name-calling, pretty much like you name called tonight actually. I asked about Friday’s outburst from you because you started again tonight.

As for over-reaction, you might want to look in a mirror. You were guilty of it on Friday, guilty of it earlier tonight and now are guilty of it again. I don’t get conditional apologies.

If you had actually read the post from winning captains you will see that it was Tommy Gemmell himself who was confused and concerned when he read the reaction on here. That would be YOUR reaction or as we now know an over-reaction, when you were not in possession of all of the facts.

You were/are so apologetic that tonight, when you have all the facts, you still justify your posts and dismiss the reaction from TG, and the rest of the team who put the Q & A together. They were entitled to be disappointed at the very least, but, in essence, to you, they over-reacted. Mmm …you know who always says that? – the bully. It really doesn’t seem to me that it is behind you, as you are still trying to deny the full implications of what you said. No genuine regret in anything you have said, other than the word two faced was ‘clumsy’.

The concept of apologizing includes some kind of recognition that the words or behavior that led to an apology being needed, are not desirable. Without that, an apology is meaningless, but with a subsequent claim that the victims were absurd and over-reacting, it amounts to no apology at all.

I value what “the mob on here” as you describe them, actually do and I don’t want to see that endangered. If you don’t value you what they do, then that is entirely your choice.

I asked you a civil question about your behavior on Friday which genuinely threatened something that I was looking forward to. Your name calling tonight was reminiscent of Friday so rather than log off, I asked the question.

    I have my answer.

  10. martybhoy59 @23.31

Just spoken to someone who lived there at the time and they assured me that there was no sectarian element to that murder.

  11. borgo67

Just goes to show that given a platform, these people will blatantly lie to try and drag us into their sectarian cesspit, the reports at the time did not allude to any sectarian element, he was referred to as a rangers fan and that was as far as it went

  12. Delaneys Dunky: Wish I’d know that when I visited Bannockburn back in March. Btw, anyone who visits, make sure to play the battle simulation in the museum, it’s awesome …

Pretty shocking that the BBC allowed it to out without a retraction of some sort, the narrator could easily have said that there was no suggestion of a sectarian element or better still just edit it out.

The person I spoke to said the guy who did it supported rangers*. Obviously I can’t confirm that but considering I didn’t ask I have no reason to question it.

You cannae have me divulging how young i am(cough)and then not say what you were thinking?

Well you can but it would be nice to hear why you think my age would matter about not bearing a grudge towards AM and instead directing it at the man who sent his players out that game with a specific game plan?

I think you probably mean that if i had been old enough, saw and understood exactly what had went on in THAT game then i may have held a grudge as well and perhaps i would.

Anyway it would still be interesting to hear what you WERE thinking?

    ………………………………….

My sincere apologies for not following up on the information you posted about your age. You nailed it yourself above. I think that you really had to be at the game or at least to have watched it on the telly. With respect, I think you were too young at the time to have a lasting sense of just how bad they were. They had no intention of playing football against us. They set out to kick and maim. 73000 Celtic supporters gurned up to watch a game of football. We were all excited and we believed that we could make it to another final. The team were robbed and so were we, the fans. I watched their semi final against Barca the other week at the Juan Calderon. Their fans were full of expectation that Athletico could get to the final.mit was a really good game and they deserved to go through. Barca turned up to play football, not to kick them off the park and cheat them and their fans out of a chance to reach a European final. There are a lot of Celtic fans around today who were at the semi final in 1974 just as there are a lot of Athletico fans around today who fully appreciated what their team did to us in 1974. They disgraced their club and they tarnished the name of football. If they were an honourable club they would have withdrawn from the competition after the way their players behaved in 1974. I hope Real Madrid bury them on Saturday in an avalanche of goals.

Emilio Izaguirre last night pledged his future to Celtic and revealed his ambitions to become a top manager.

The Honduran full-back is preparing for the World Cup and is now in a training camp in Miami, USA. Izaguirre enjoyed an outstanding season as Celtic romped to another title success. And although he’s admitted that he will one day return home to finish his career before moving into management, he’s happy to stay at Parkhead for the long term. He said: “If Celtic decided to sell me, then no problem, but my desire is to stay with them, play and win titles and play in the Champions League.

“That’s what you will remember for the rest of your life. I want to be part of Celtic for many years to come. My dream is to one day return to Honduras and prepare to become a great manager. Motagua is my team, but I am a professional and would coach anywhere.”

The left back is also convinced Honduras can spring a surprise or two at this summer’s World Cup. He said: “This is the pinnacle of my career. Some people think that the European-based Honduras players no longer care.

“But remember, sometimes we have to travel for 14 or 15 hours and play two days later, so that demonstrates our commitment to our country. We are highly motivated to make an impact at the World Cup.”

Meanwhile, Celtic and Scotland legend Danny McGrain is now resting at home and recovering well after suffering a minor heart attack last week.

McGrain and the club have been inundated with well-wishes and messages of support from Celtic supporters and further afield in the football world. He said: “I’ve been truly amazed at all of the messages sent to the club and calls I’ve received.”
