Agents talk to the media when they are not talking to Celtic

1126

One of the problems of doing your business discretely is that if and when agents or selling clubs publicise your interest in their player, media attention has a tendency to attribute too much focus on the most recent name revealed.  Teemu Pukki is a player Celtic have been trailing for some months but the fact that his agent yesterday revealed their interest is no indication that he enjoys any pre-eminence over others strikers being considered.  If anything, briefings from the agent are an indication of the opposite.

Reports yesterday that Pukki is backup in case a bid for Finnbogason fails are also wide of the mark; this is not the active path Celtic are working on.  There are (at least) two other strikers under consideration, neither of whom have directly or indirectly leaked the discussions.

Nothing sells media adverts like transfer ‘news’, which is fair enough, but news is easier to find than the actual story. This is a ‘no news’ article, the easiest of all. No panicking in the back…

Anyone not read the letter from SFA to RIFC from April this year, as tweeted by Lottie Fakes yesterday?

Signed by Stuart Regan, but highly likely to have been authored at considerable expense by Rod McKenzie or one of his associates, and which singularly fails to disguise the utter panic behind the words…

“It is clearly important for us to be completely satisfied about the provenance of RFC’s title to the Club”

This refers to the Pamela Ewing’s Dream scenario whereby the SFA wake up some time in the future to find some new newco club getting out of the shower, and everything that had occurred in the recent past didn’t actually happen.

Unrelatedly: Producers at Lorimar Television are currently working on a new script entitled “Stuart Regan’s Nightmare”.

ASonofDan- look at MKDons- they are extremely unpopular with supporters of other lower league teams in England [ and doubtless the EPL as well].

My Twitter is mainly ill informed gibberish.

No wonder the USArmy loves it.

  5. Love, thoughts, prayers, best wishes, everything that can be gathered from all across the globe are currently being boxed up and en route to the Celtic Warrior, lets put the differences aside today guys and do the same.

The rights and wrongs of who said what yesterday pale into insignificance with what Oscar and the Knox family are fighting.

    And fight they will.

    You’ll Never Walk Alone Oscar.

  6. Heartbreaking news for wee Oscar and family.Thoughts and prayers go out.

But you know what they say, the best indicator of future performance is past performance and the Wee man has smashed every obstacle in his way thus far.

On to more trivial matters, Pittodrie sold out and the dandies are confident of getting a win and going 3 for 3. Should be a great game and hopefully see some more of Amido.

Got a ticket so won’t have to watch BT which if Liverpool game was anything to go by, might be a bonus.

Forster’s highlight of the season was keeping a clean sheet at home to Barça. Really? Messi who?

And I must have missed the win over Benfica. Maybe when I went to the toilet.

As for Zaliukas in goal, when did he leave Hearts?

Anyway who cares. Let’s get out of 5th place before the mineshafters are calling for Lenny’s head ;)

If we want to buy a player who is under contract then we must match the selling clubs valuation. What we value the player at is irrelevant if we really want to buy the player. Hence the reason we are failing.

  10. ‘This suggestion of a grand plan with numerous targets being pursued is utter nonsense. Transfer strategy is being made up on the hoof and the reason we haven’t signed a striker is because Peter Lawell thinks we don’t need one to beat Karagandy.’

That is just rubbish. Good grief, if anyone honestly thinks this then they are a complete Daily Record reader.

She will be a loss …like many others …that seems to be the Celtic way at the moment.

  15. Just had a thought although it’s maybe too organised and too much to expect…

We maybe are going after both. Had a look at the videos (I know!) of Pukki and thought “he’s skillful and quick and likes to run and defences. He’s got a good strike on him but scores a lot of goals outside the box which suggests he’ not A) a goalscorer and B) not the penalty box striker we need.”

But now thinking, what if we’re going after Finnbogason to spearhead a front three (everyone is moving that way and we need to in Europe). We’ve got Derk and Forrest as options for Wingers, Common as more of a playmaker, and Samaras as a wide forward. Balde could be used as a physical presence when needed and Watt can play in all three positions.

Maybe we are looking at Pukka as a wide forward (which he seems suited) AND the Iceman as our lead striker?

    Too much to ask csc?

Away and bile yer bunnet! I was getting fed up (understatement) with some posts but your balanced post made me think.

As i’ve just said to my niece (serial lurker, eh Dinky?), negativity is the last thing we need today, Oscar, the Knox family and friends need all the positive thoughts we can muster for them.

  19. To be fair I see the boards point on the value for money for Pukki one (if they bought him for £1.3m and he hasn’t been up to much AND is on the last year of his contract – then a £1m would be very generous in my opinion).

AF is a different kettle of fish, he’s a proven goalscorer at multiple levels.

    ————————-

    Hi CRC,

As there are 10 days to go before my 125 self imposed ban expires on CQN, I wonder if I could impose on you to post the following on my behalf, in my name, on CQN, about last night’s bad news:-

“I have been absent from CQN for 115 posting days now and have 10 to go before I return. I left because, on a night when good news was posted about Oscar Knox’s remission from cancer, I got side tracked into a mud wrestling argument with another CQN poster about something which was, in the scheme of things, much less consequential than Oscar’s health.

Though I will complete, my final 10 days abstinence from posting before I return, I trust all good CQNrs will allow me the privilege of having a proxy post, via crc, about last night’s awful news.

I am not a man for wearing jewellery. I never had and never wore a wedding ring , despite 31 years of happy marriage, and had only ever worn a St. Christopher before that, as a teenager. I do wear a watch, provided by my family on the occasion of my 50th birthday, but I count that as functional rather than decorative. However, after the first Oscar Knox bucket collection, I have sported on my arm a fine piece of jewellery. It is bright blue, made of rubber/plastic ( I am no chemist, so I am not sure), and carries the inscription in yellow-“The Oscar Knox Appeal- Team Oscar#”.

I am not normally a superstitious person but this item has only left my wrist when I am showering. I wear it every day and do not remove it when sleeping. I have somehow got it in my head that this brave wee boy could be kept safe by this gesture. So, last night’s devastating news about the return of aggressive cancer to Oscar’s body has hit home hard. I had strong hopes that Oscar’s remission would be a modern day miracle, a testament to the power of one family’s strength and faith.

And, you know what? After a quiet cry this morning, I have kept my one and only piece of precious jewellery, all 10p worth of it, on my wrist, because it is priceless and because hope is not lost. The wee man has proved to be a fighter who defies odds so I will not lose faith in his ability to beat this one.

The wristband is staying on and wee Oscar’s fight will go on.”
