AGM ahead

974

Are you looking forward to the AGM tomorrow? As always on these occasions, the questions after the votes will be far more interesting than the formal business of the day. The Living Wage appears on the agenda for the third year, courtesy of the Trust. Celtic now pay at or above Living Wage rates, although they have not signed up to the Foundation and the pay increase for lower-waged members of staff was accompanied with the withdrawal of a discretionary bonus.

Not sure what the cost of this was, or the impact on staff, but we’ll no doubt hear about it tomorrow. I should also say that I’m not signed up to the Living Wage Foundation either, as it has no relevance for my business.

The performance of the team (imperious domestically, impervious to improvement in Europe) will be the central concern from the hall. Celtic are a Champions League club, this is our focus. We need to be competing on that platform regularly.

I expect, and hope, shareholders get an update on Resolution 12, which looks increasingly relevant. You can bet questions will also be asked on whether or not there was a conspiracy to break tax, SPL and SFA rules, and to subvert an SPL Commission.

There’s not a great deal Celtic can say on this matter for now, beyond their statement last week.

Many thanks to Jim Craig and Brendan Sweeney for joining us on the blog last night. These events see the blog at its best and last night’s was no exception. You can buy Brendan’s book, Celtic: The Early Years, or Alex Gordon’s latest, The Winds of Change, Managing Celtic from 1991-2005, at the CQN Bookstore.

Here’s a wee thought – if it’s £2000 a game to pay the living wage – and we get 40000+ at every game – that’s a mere £0.05 per fan. 20 games a season is £1 onto your season book

Why don’t the board propose that

  2. Sips…,

Good, it will show how ungrateful we are, maybe even make people think what the fcuk have we to be grateful for ?

Seriously, exactly why should the Celtic supporters/shareholders be anything else that angry ?

I’ve never met Tony Donnelly in person but every visit to Celtic Park I see the three bricks just next to Jinky’s statue where Mrs RobinBhoy and I have a paving stone that Tony and his two brothers have.

*and one of his brothers is the reason that Tims in NA get tae see their beloved club on a regular basis.

  4. I made the comment 3 years ago this month, that Ian Bankier should be removed as our chairman

That’s when I believe his opening comment was to tell us Celtic fans to behave ourselves, a stated he repeated the following year at next AGM

    My thoughts have never changed

No idea why he is My/Our clubs chairman

Just as well we support Celtic, and not a chairman, don’t think many would be there if it was this chairman we had to support

    Hail Hail

  5. Mike..,

Folllowed a couple of his suggestions and found expensive nondescript food, the only flavour was the silvery boak when the bill was presented for less than average titbits, pretentious shite is how I would describe the recommendations, £15 fcukin quid for a bit of black pudding ffs, but the place could tell you the history of the pig and had tartan curtains, couldny make their mutton taste like lamb but charged you for the lamb anyway. Best pretentious shop in the west end and no worth the bus fair.

  6. Mike I don’t play fair so there will be a swift volley to your swingset followed by a cowardly dash

Vegetarian eateries are said to be one of the big trends for 2016 so she should be ok there.

  7. Up until recently I have thought that Mr Bankier was a pretty anonymous , non descript figure .

I wondered what his role was but figured he probably did a lot of behind the scenes work for the betterment of our club.

After today however, I feel he must be removed.

I along with thousands of other Celtic supporters signed a petition for the removal of Mr Livingstone.

We object to his politics and his use of an unelected vote to penalise the most vulnerable in society.

His views are diametrically opposed to all we hold dear.

I find Mr Bankier’s defence of this offensive.

For that reason he must go and take his buddy Lord Parkhead with him.

I’m glad Bankier said what he said and Livingston did what he did and what Lawwell didnt do or say. It just gets better!

Initially I contributed to CQN instead of season tickets.

    How about you? res 12?

  12. Letter send to jptaylor.

Dear sir, I am a season ticket holder and a shareholder.

I was unable to attend the AGM today, but I am absolutely astonished at the behaviour of the chairman today. The topic of Lord Livingston was always likely to raised and I find it astonishing that Mr Bankier, having prepared an answer, was allowed to refer to fans as being criminally racist.

The fact that he has had to clarify his comments is a clear indication that he was wrong and ill advised to use such a term.

Mr Bankier seemed extremely passionate about the issue, it is a pity that he is less passionate about the corruption that has been happening in Scottish Football over the last decade or so.

I find his behaviour unacceptable and would suggest that all he has done is bring the good name if Celtic and its fans and shareholders into disrepute.

This should be a matter for a resignation.

    Your sincerely

  13. Bankier has a very horrible way about him.

Hes a smug condescending creep and totally got the mood of the AGM wrong today.

Both his style and substance leave a lot to be desired

  14. Oh wait, I’ll answer that, you done fcuk all, you made talk cheap and castigated everyone that done exactly the same as you, fcuk all same as neganon same as everyone else that made talk cheap, there was plenty things you could have actually done, you know, actions and example, but you done fcuk all, no paying ha

So see that big ivory tower you’ve escobsed yourself in, stick it right up yer hole, and don’t dare dig up tims, till you get aff that fat lazy useless arse of yours and take some action to help.

There are plenty of people that could do with a bit of investigative assistance, you and neganon have spent your time telling people not to waste their time, why didn’t you want to help ?

  15. Evening folks,

Another day, another PR blooper by the board. FFS who is in charge of our PR strategy. Is there even a cohesive PR strategy? JC’s comments a few months back alienating the rest of the Scottish teams, then today’s ill thought out comments by Bankier.

Surprise, surprise his stupid comments are jumped on by the media, who would have thought eh? The good work done by the Foundation this week overshadowed by this crap.

Thoroughly annoyed, but not surprised by another gaff by these so called “intelligent successful business people”

No wonder our club is going backwards in so many aspects.

    HH Dan

Like many on here I’ve a few thousand Celtic shares gathering dust in a drawer somewhere. I gave up going to the AGM’s over 10 years ago, absolutely pointless attending when you have no influence.

I always wondered if there is a fans group able to speak with a mandate for the “ordinary” 28000 or so fans who bought shares to save the club, not as investors.

Some of the individuals on the board should be nowhere near the club, may be a sign of a greater dissatisfaction of things at Celtic Park, a heartless group of players and a limited football manager.

  20. Ian ‘Facepalm’ Bankier – ‘didn’t realise’ his attack on Celtic fans at the AGM would be manna from heaven for the rabid Hun SMSM.

For that strategical naivety alone he shouldn’t be chairman of anything more than his own dining room.

Too much marination in that ‘air of protestant superiority’ at his old stomping ground causes idiocy like today.
