AGM ahead

974

Are you looking forward to the AGM tomorrow? As always on these occasions, the questions after the votes will be far more interesting than the formal business of the day. The Living Wage appears on the agenda for the third year, courtesy of the Trust. Celtic now pay at or above Living Wage rates, although they have not signed up to the Foundation and the pay increase for lower-waged members of staff was accompanied with the withdrawal of a discretionary bonus.

Not sure what the cost of this was, or the impact on staff, but we’ll no doubt hear about it tomorrow. I should also say that I’m not signed up to the Living Wage Foundation either, as it has no relevance for my business.

The performance of the team (imperious domestically, impervious to improvement in Europe) will be the central concern from the hall. Celtic are a Champions League club, this is our focus. We need to be competing on that platform regularly.

I expect, and hope, shareholders get an update on Resolution 12, which looks increasingly relevant. You can bet questions will also be asked on whether or not there was a conspiracy to break tax, SPL and SFA rules, and to subvert an SPL Commission.

There’s not a great deal Celtic can say on this matter for now, beyond their statement last week.

Many thanks to Jim Craig and Brendan Sweeney for joining us on the blog last night. These events see the blog at its best and last night’s was no exception. You can buy Brendan’s book, Celtic: The Early Years, or Alex Gordon’s latest, The Winds of Change, Managing Celtic from 1991-2005, at the CQN Bookstore.

  1. Whitedoghunch,

I’ve learned to laugh too, when I read the drivel you post and the poor buggers that actually think you have anything to offer, poor pretentious buggers, really think your taste buds are better than their own, I mean ffs.

When I sat in that shithole on great western road and accepted your critique I was that poor pretentious bugger, company can bring out the worst in people eh.

I think it took about two or three pretentious shitholes before I recognised you as someone who really does not have any taste buds , do you smoke ? Are you an alcoholic ? Because quite simply, the food in the places including Barcelona were to put it mildly, plain, now if plain is what you are recommending then yes you are a master of the nondescript, and good luck to you, there will always be people silly enough to ignore their taste buds when it comes to snobbery.

  4. While sending a stiff letter to the exceptionally decent JPT,

you might as well make the most of your trip to the post office

and drop your note off for Santa as well…………..(or Santy as they call him in these parts).

(No offence to those who believe in Santa.)

  5. Awe_Naw..,

It’s late here in Abu Dhabi I started drinking about 13:00pm, that’s 09:00am Celtic park time, and I’ll repeat what I said earlier, my uncle made shipwrights and scaffolders a recognised trade all over the world, do I deserve any credit for that ?

Do you or mags deserve any credit because your younger brother got off his arse and decided to do something, whether it works or not ?

He tried, you and mags done fcuk all but snipe, I’ll stand with your brother, you two keep on discouraging him and telling us, we’re wasting our time, brotherlee love eh.

Celtic don’t need your money that’s why you’ve no made any difference but they can’t ignore people turning up to the AGM and questioning their administrative responsibilities, find an angle, aye it’s a wee bit harder than throwing in the towel but it’s much more effective. Res 12 might be a slow burner but it’s still burning, if it fails we still have plenty of time to let you tell us why did we bother, innit.

nbrs … listening to that was what pouring bleach into my ears must feel like! but, at least it made me laugh!

Have you any idea of current % of shareholding being granted to the Trust ?

Reason for asking, I see Lord Livinstone was re-elected with a 99.46% votes, be that right or wrong

I would have thought the Trust had more than 0.5% committed votes

Hail Hail and keep up the Great work

Canamalar, you as well Bhud, don’t let them get to you, I for one appreciate everything you have done in getting Res 12 both up running and to where it is now

    Hail Hail

  9. Cowiebhoy,

So dae they, they jist like a noise up, I can guarantee they want us to succeed as well, it’s like the, make me eat humble pie Efe, innit BHOYS :)

  10. Looking forward to the game tomorrow, turbopropping in early(7am) and jetting out late(8.30) soan early night tonight.

Not read all the AGM fallout yet but I assume Bankier will become a pejorative noun soon.

  11. Canamalar…

I would have liked the board to be questioned on the obvious pro Hun media that is as plain as the nose on their faces, (atleast one that is blue) that Traynor can coordinate the smsm to be so flagrant in kissing the Hun arse whilst demeaning our club is beyond me.

Head in the sand or bigger bonuses when we face a team/support that follows a regime that have and will cheat to achieve a superior position…in their hollow dead eyes.

  12. Canamalar

ahh great western road your ignorant food related ramblings had me in the dark where you were talking about

come back in a year to be safe 2 and take michelins word on that one as they will give it a star.

you are the one that formed an opion on the place decided to eat there and could afford it.

    I could never afford it

I am asked to eat there and the bill is footed by somebody looking for my assesment of the place.

    bottoms up

  13. Awe_Naw_No_Annoni_Oan_Anaw_Noo on

    Canamalar,

I discouraged my brother for two reasons. I believe it is futile. Time will tell whether it is or not and while I admire all four of you for trying I would be lying to you if I thought otherwise. Not giving the billionaire money for his toy I believe to be the only solution. The money goes elsewhere but not on me.

The second reason was that I felt that he would be badly let down by Celtic plc and most of the support Who no longer embrace our ethos. You know the 11 plus failures who can’t see past a winning football team and are happy to watch Old Firm money making entertainment.

You know those that exhibit that greenish hunnish of all tendencies who tackle and ridicule the man when they don’t like the argument. Like Bankier did today.

I sincerely hope you get res. 12 resolved.

I think we are dinosaurs mate.

  14. Raucous AGM indeed. Lost in the sea of words and PR catastrophe is the guy who spoke about the child season ticket. Spoke from personal experience, benchmarked what other clubs are doing, added a bit of humour and made a great point about the 2012 ‘Club 12’ clause that should be removed. Eloquent, got a reasonable response that will potentially benefit loads of families, tremendous stuff.

  15. mike in toronto on

Coneybhoy …. if they are huns from Ayrshire, I think you might mean ‘crack pipe band’ instead of ‘cracking pipe band’ …. no? :) just joking!

  16. Cowiebhoy

Don’t quote me on these figures but I think, that at last year’s AGM we managed something like 120,000 shares.

Dermot had something like 98,000,000 on his own.

We’re trying to batter down a bolted steel door with a wet sponge and we know it. But we also know that some of the water may seep into the hinges over time.

Don’t know if it’s been posted yet, Mr pastry had wee pop at the celtic trust on etims twitter earlier. He tweets there occasionally. He”s consistent in his opinions.

Some posters here are not keen on the Celtic Trust but I feel they have a better handle on what some of our support would prefer to see happening with the club than our board members do

Let’s hope the support’s contributions to the foodbank collection tomorrow make more news than Mr Bankier does.

  23. I said two/three years ago Bankier should be removed from the position of Celtic Chairman when he told the shareholders at the AGM to remember to behave themselves!!!!!!!!!

The shareholders mind, the people who he, as chairman, should answer to.

I have not heard him defend the shareholders, or their interests, once, not once, despite constant attacks from our Media.

    That was unacceptable.

beer in Heathrow is plain robbery too btw. £5 for a pint of Amstel!!!!!

  24. Sips…,

I was one of the few, might even be the only one of the four of us that was happy with today’s statement on Res 12.

I know how hard the SFA are trying to turn this into a Celtic V Rangers thing, any official questions from the club will make that happen, without doubt.

As soon as it becomes a Celtic v Rangers issue it’s over as a reasonable argument, there is only one source of news in Scotland and as soon as Res 12 gets relegated to old firm the game is up, no one in the world will take Res 12 seriously and that’s the SFA off the hook.

What happened today was the club telling the world and the SFA, that the people who have been sending them letters since August via the commercial solicitors are the Res 12 representatives.

The SFA have been demanding personal details of Res 12 signatories, in short playing the Ally card “who are these people, I think we should be told”, now we had a discussion about whether to provide the details and I must admit I’m the shite bag, as I believe this is intimidation and don’t think the SFA have the right to ask, especially since we have a renowned solicitor who has verified our validity, there’s also the wee detail that when I first started this, I gave my word that supporters details were sacrosanct, not a snowballs chance in hell would/will I give personal details to an organisation that folded and gave in to Ally’s demands for the personal details of an SFA panel, remember they gave up their own people to the hoard, no it’s not happening the SFA have had the questions and evidence since August, they are responsible to investigate and should have alredy started that investigation, by way of responsibility.

Right now we are waiting on a response for the third time of asking, if the SFA continue to demand personal details before they act then. We should simply wait to see if Mike Ash.ey gets a judicial review, if he is successful (and he will be, being a shareholder in a member club) then for me that’s the way to go, if we have to us this option we must also invite the City of London Police to ask who was protecting the shareholders interests.

Ideally Celtic Plc will simply back Res12 and ask the CFCB to investigate. Saves everybody money and protects personal details.

  25. Did Bankier’s “criminally racist” comment come from a prepared speech? Scandalous if it did, without qualifying remarks he knew what the reaction would be from the fans and SMSM.. Are we being conditioned for the return of the Old Firm with a Board attitude of us being as bad as THEM? Are the Board quite happy with the “evening up” that Police Scotland are doing? All this for the tainted blue pound,FFS.

WRT to Livingstone, I am not aware of any social media comments about him that would bring that retort from the Chairman, any screen grabs?

When our Club are discussing charitable acts does Livingstone apply his Tory logic to determine the rights and wrongs of that needy cause?

He voted to remove money from those who are trying to eke out a living. “What does it profit a man ………..”

    He could have abstained!
