AGM ahead

974

Are you looking forward to the AGM tomorrow? As always on these occasions, the questions after the votes will be far more interesting than the formal business of the day. The Living Wage appears on the agenda for the third year, courtesy of the Trust. Celtic now pay at or above Living Wage rates, although they have not signed up to the Foundation and the pay increase for lower-waged members of staff was accompanied with the withdrawal of a discretionary bonus.

Not sure what the cost of this was, or the impact on staff, but we’ll no doubt hear about it tomorrow. I should also say that I’m not signed up to the Living Wage Foundation either, as it has no relevance for my business.

The performance of the team (imperious domestically, impervious to improvement in Europe) will be the central concern from the hall. Celtic are a Champions League club, this is our focus. We need to be competing on that platform regularly.

I expect, and hope, shareholders get an update on Resolution 12, which looks increasingly relevant. You can bet questions will also be asked on whether or not there was a conspiracy to break tax, SPL and SFA rules, and to subvert an SPL Commission.

There’s not a great deal Celtic can say on this matter for now, beyond their statement last week.

Many thanks to Jim Craig and Brendan Sweeney for joining us on the blog last night. These events see the blog at its best and last night’s was no exception. You can buy Brendan’s book, Celtic: The Early Years, or Alex Gordon’s latest, The Winds of Change, Managing Celtic from 1991-2005, at the CQN Bookstore.

Didn’t realize that the SFA were seeking your names and addresses. Totally repugnant and hunnish. That in itself must be illegal? Criminal? Something to add to your ammunition?

Campbell’s soup are a business that make pretty good soup.

Celtic football club are a business that should be pretty good at football.

Instead Celtic are pish and their support are being asked to pay more than most Europa league teams do. Why? because unlike Campbells soup whose executives can take the cream off of the executive top for themselves ours do it with a shit product.

If you don’t know what introspection is – you need to take a long, hard look at yourself. :)

  2. It’s incredible to believe that even after Bankier’s display in a public forum that someone inside Parkhead sanctioned that statement. It’s a disgrace and an insult to the Celtic support.

  3. Ha, logged in first time ;-))

    Where to start:

CoS decision…..About f**kin time…..let me ask you this…..you’ve been found guilty of obtaining goods through illegal means…..what happens next….well they’re taken off you and returned to the proper owners…..that’s the natural consequence…..punishment follows…..this is natural justice ;-))

Can you punish a dead club? Nope…..but you can punish all responsible for said crime…..step up in the first instance Minty & your cohorts…..followed by the top echelon of the SFA…..if nothing is done to punish those responsible then am afraid that the footballing authorities in this country are morally & ethically bankrupt…..and I give up on football totally & completely ;-((

Quick word on the atrocities committed in Paris…..my stomach churns…..but we shouldn’t let such actions allow the government to use this episode as an excuse to erode our civil liberties further.

If Bankier was right and Livingston received that abuse online from Celtic fans then why wouldn’t he make that statement??

Hello there, I see you reply to me caused a wee spat to break out, apologies for that.

I have not been on here much lately, I have not had a great month personally and have to say that this blog has not been a source of any relief lately.

Anyway to my comments, in fact it was more of a question, I understand that to become a board member of a Plc with a turnover of £50m pa, you should have a pedigree in business. As you are aware that is not always the case, just because some one has a degree or an impressive cv does not guarantee that they are error free.

In my opinion, just my opinion, Bankiers comments were crass and poorly phrased. He may have a lot of skills, but today he dropped a bollock. Now you can do the normal deflection thing and pose another question, feel free to do so.

I now see that he has hit reverse gear, now as we all know, he is simply trying to get his real point across. The problem is that the damage is done : he has not the nous/ street smarts/ brains. To realise what he has done….

Now, if he was aware of the feelings of the Celtic support, in touch with his customers/clients, or even worse read the MSM he would never have walked into this mine field .

The fact that he did ,suggests that for all his impressive CV , “the boy done bad”…..

  12. The huddle. As I thought. Incapable of creating a coherent argument.

Green pinta I think you are displaying your lack of understanding. A lot of those champagne guys are just chaps who have done ok and think they are helping the club. Unlike the huddles businessmen who only want to take. As for PLs donation then good for Peter but as I say we collectively donated another big wedge to him for no,reason so maybe we should all be praised eh?

Macjay 1 errr what he said today…..

No it is not.The people who sent the racist comments are a disgrace to the Celtic support.

Unless, that is,you think that we do not have morons in our support capable of such .

I cant stand the man,but getting overly antagonistic towards him for saying something that we should all agree with is very unlike you.

  17. Evening bhoys.

Absolutely staggering for the Celtic PLC to behave like total huns.

People who are supposed to represent Celtic, who do not give a flying feck about the supporters.

You know…supporters, the people who collectively fund the club….and who have no say whatsoever.

Sad to say…but the only way to get these halfwits to feck…is to withhold the cash.

See if they can run off at the mouth, when the supporters stop finding the club….out of sheer desperation.

Sad day indeed when we are at the beck and call of the likes of Bankier and Livingston.

Are we even Celtic anymore….or just some sanitised tory version of the real thing.

    Shocking that we allow this.

    Surely the time to make a statement about the alleged online abuse of the Tory peer is when such abuse has been made- that same day or as damned near it as possible;

Not to store it in the back pocket to use as a prepared “defensive line to take” at the AGM a couple of weeks later to try and get said Tory out of a hole on his contested re-election to the Celtic board.

Mr Bankier bringing up such alleged abuse at that point in time seemed to be quite a hunnic deflection tactic to me.

I see people are saying that Mr Livingston’s politics have no bearing on how fit for office he is at Celtic. Would they think the same if Peter Robinson – who will soon have plenty of spare time on his hands- was parachuted onto the Celtic board by Dermot Desmond?

  21. Turkeybhoy….Aint Doing My Mike in Toronto ( Lawyer ) bit here…But has bankier shown Evidence That Comes ( without doubt) From Celtic Supporters….Coz i aint Seen it..And Without Showing it in Conjuncture with his Statement..

Have you any evidence of racist abuse or that any of it came from Celtic supporters.

The backtracking is an insult. This is the same guy who wants us to be more like the Tartan Army.

  24. What he said.

“This personal campaign against Lord Livingston is criminally racist. He has been subjected to a TORRENT of base personal abuse in social media.

Some of the messages are criminally abusive.

    What he said he said.

“I have not branded our supporters racist and it is outrageous to suggest that I would ever do that. I was only referring to a SMALL number of specific comments which have been made on social media, which I believe are unacceptable, and I know Celtic supporters would agree with me.

  25. M McGill

A poster on here called Livingston a zionist the day after he voted for the tax credit reduction. Was Bankier lurking here that day?
