AGM report, Living Wage, Rory Bremner, show us the deeds

1098

Celtic’s Annual General Meeting, held at Celtic Park today, was a livelier event than usual.  The board received a hostile response to their refusal to back a resolution to provide all staff with at least the Living Wage.  Several impassioned points were made from the floor, which convinced chairman, Ian Bankier, to dispense with his prepared response and provide answers to specific questions.

The vote went against the resolution based on the proxy votes cast by the chairman but the board have never lost the floor so convincingly on any prior issue.

Resolution 12, encouraging the club to purse the game’s authorities on matters relating to the governance of liquidated Rangers was adjourned indefinitely by the requisitioners.  On proposing the adjournment, a spokesman for the requisitioners (our own Morrissey23) explained that they had met the club and received information not previously known, and that further meetings were planned.

Fergus McCann made an unexpected contribution to the AGM by email through the chairman, extoling the virtues of financial director, Eric Riley, who he commended for 19 years’ service in pursuing Celtic’s interests.  Fergus asked for, and got, an applause for Eric Riley, which resulted in the first unanimous show of hands to re-elect a director I have seen at a Celtic AGM.

AGM questions can be a tortuous affair but they were on the money this year.  We had poetry, questions about financial governance including a question as to whether the club owns all of it’s perceived property assets.  Ian Bankier confirmed it did, before planting his tongue in his cheek to insist “I’m not going to show you the deeds”.

When one shareholder expressed frustration that a new Scottish club is pretending to be a now liquidated club, chief executive, Peter Lawwell, retorted, “Rory Bremner can pretend to be Tony Blair”.

  1. Doc says Vive La Resolution

Canamalar, thanks, that response to HT answered most of my questions.

The result today is obviously better than the resolution being voted down, at least it is still alive.

However, “a few being kept in the loop” makes me uneasy, we are being asked to take this on trust, and lacks transparency. Is a lack of transparency not exactly what we are trying to rid the governance of the game off.

    ========================

No you are not being asked to take it on trust if you read back to exchange with Row Z.

Well in my opinion the Celtic Board have been very clever they did not give an answer to resolution 12 but hold meetings at some future time to discuss resolution 12 with whom we are uncertain. Now the people who attended the AGM and agreed to accept the boards suggestion and drop resolution 12 would appear to have been given some information which made them satisfied that not pursing resolution 12 today was the right thing to do.Now wither they will be able to discuss this information openly with there fellow Celtic supporters is unknown but if they cannot as they have given there word to the board that they will await the meeting or meetings they have divorced themselves from there fellow Celtic supporter and aligned themselves with the board ( a well known business practice to divide and conquer ). I have felt ever since the resolution was first muted that it could very well be devisive and as I see it at this moment that is how its turned out.I hope I am wrong but time will tell.H.H.

Not sure how the SFA can be reformed to offer services , seems that Dallasgate revealed a poor 1960 /70 ‘s culture in the workplace, which as night follows day , always results in management by the hard of thinking , feather bedding your own nest , wasted money and effort everywhere.

If the SFA were really good then news would have got out by now …….. Basket case which needs its responsibilities moved to other organisations ASAP.

  4. Have had a very brief read back.

I am finding it hard to contain my contempt for the cowardly decision made on resolution 12. I want to wait for Canamalar or other to explain it. Thus far from my read back no one has.

At face value then we have our Board acting in a cowardly manner by ensuring that the resolution did not get discussed. Why on earth the resolutioners would agree to this is at this moment beyond me.

Right now I feel this is the nail in the coffin for this Board and its attitude to corruption.

Please someone explain why its a good thing it wasnt discussed?

If I remember correctly Reagan had a list of about 20 questions regarding answers supplied from Charles Green ( I know seperate issue from REL12) that these questions were ignored by Green & Rangers and not followed up by the SFA is where the doubts come in.

Does anyone know if Craig Whytes £200k fine was paid by RIFC??

Can’t find account for SPL, SFL or SFA last year so cannot tell, is this a Scottish thing not to produce accounts??

Indeed and there is nothing that can be done to stop the DR spinning it this way and had Celtic voted against then the DR would have been correct.

However Celtic did not vote against the Resolution and that allows the debate to continue and get the truth out there.

Why was an adjournment accepted? Because of e mails that suggest SFA and Rangers were in collusion. The trick now is to get that out there and an attempt at doing that has already started.

    I’m confused.

Over at Rotor Zombiegrad they’re bangin’ on about the ole requisitioners, and now on the ole bhlog it seems we’ve got our own set of requisitioners.

Are we livin’ in a Generation of Requisition?

  13. Were all shareholders who supported the resolution 12 (the requisitioners) asked for their opinion with regards to the resolution being ‘adjourned indefinitely’. Or was this a decision taken by a minority rather than the majority?

that Daily Record article is simply not true – the motion was about the granting of a European licence in 2011, whereas the article says it’s about granting the newco a licence in 2012.

Auldheid. If such e.mails exist and are from a credible source why not bring them into the open. All I can see is that there may be future meetings between the Board with selected Celtic supporters who may or may not be able to inform the rest of the Celtic support what the meetings discussed. To me that is not progress and that is not what the Celtic support want to hear. H.H.

I too can’t understand how it’s a positive that Resolution 12 hasn’t been discussed in the public forum of the AGM.

I think the people who “shelved” the resolution had a decision to make. They made that decision.

They made it on behalf of everyone who backed them, and they made it in good faith, upon information received.

Were that information made public to be voted upon,it may have wrecked the whole process. If they are proven to have been mugged on your behalf, they will man up,I’m sure.

Meantime,I think we have to back their decision.

Would it not be an idea to get some answers before making any judgement on cowardice?

The fact is Celtic took it as far as they could in the time available before the AGM and based on SFA replies alone would have been justified in holding to their original stance that the resolution was unnecessary.

The fact that they did not is significant.

What did you expect, the resolution to get passed?

I think it will have something to do with what Celtic having been doing in the background, away from the LL ….. only to be ‘used’ if required ….!!??

  25. NegAnon, That is a bit hasty. The Bhoys obviously received some information and on the basis felt that it was better to adjourn the motion and stay inside the tent and be part of future discussions. From everything I have read from them here, they are highly principled, highly motivated and totally trustworthy people. Reading your post I get the impression that there is a hint that you are accusing them of a sell-out. If I am wrong, I apologise, if I am right then I am appalled.

Seems from today’s answer on that that the club do not recognise a union, but would have no problem doing so.

Doubt it will make much difference. Apparently everyone has another job anyway, and therefore may well have Union representation through that.

    Aye,right…..

  30. ‘adjourned indefinitely’ has a ring of finality about it. I sincerely hope that the good ghuys (the requisitioners) received some of the answers they were looking for.
