if anyone thinks our defence is improving they are living in cloud cuckoo land.

    ___

On here every day complaining. The team just beat the champions of Sweden 4-1 away.

The defence hasn’t fully taken shape yet. Once we have a new LB (Taylor most likely) we will have options in every position.

The coach will then be able to give them a run together. I’d agree it’s not a cohesive unit yet but it will get there.

  2. Remember a couple of weeks ago when Phil Mac was telling us that Julien wasn’t a Neil Lennon signing & was absolutely rubbish?

    Funny that.

  3. Ron, I hear what you are saying but we went into last night’s game without 2 of our now first choice defenders, Jozo & Elhamed & lost probably our best defender Ajer after 15 minutes. Yes there were a few dodgy moments & Gordon did make a few good stops but that is what he is there for, and in the end the make shift dodgy defense did not concede a goal from open play.

I thought your two pigs in a poke did well, Boli was caught wrong side in incident which led to penalty award, I don’t think a penalty should have been awarded but regardless thought Boli did fine for rest of gane, big Julien cleared a lot of ball, distribution could be a bit better at times but overall a very good performance from both him & Bitton.

Ralston tried really hard, I would love to see the lad succeed , he will make a good living from the game but I don’t think it will be at Celtic.

Having said all that I do actually agree that defense is the key area we need to concentrate on, we will have to see what Bauer has to offer & we definitely need another left back, let’s see what net couple of days bring. Heard a whisper about Benkovic, would love if it happens, Benkovic & Wanyama & all my birthdays will have come together.

  4. The wan thing I want from our fitba Academy is a centre half.

I’ve never seen the Bhoy who went to Bayern. My wee heart sank a bit when he went there.

    Celtic is doing alright.

    Tommy Burns…. TOMMY BURNS.

Guy on KDS: ‘Thats my understanding we know the price and last night was the only block put up by PL to going forward – wanyama knows our interest and ive been told he’s up for it so unless it develops into an auction and vic is ok with that then we should have great chance

On laxalt he has been offered to us – terms clear but its up to PL ‘

Caveat is that this guys reliability is unknown, to me at least.

Diego Laxalt is a Uruguayan left back on the books at AC Milan who is being loaned out, looks like Torino is his likely destination right now.

  6. FWIW I can remember Denayer, Boyata & Lustig all looking shaky in their early careers.

I still have hopes for Boli

  7. Last night’s final Defence:

    Gordon

    Ralston Bitton Julien Boli

This season’s likely Defence from September:

    Forster

Bauer Ajer Julien Melling / Taylor(?)

In short, 80% of last night’s defence won’t probably feature as first pick.

Our problem is having this 100% defence in and functioning from July when they are needed for ECL qualifying.

Interesting few days kicked off with a terrific win last night.

Shaky in their early Celtic careers…and in the case of Dedryck, decidedly ropey in the middle, and full on bombscare near the end ;)

I think Sutton is trying to help Lennie out by pointing out the issues within the squad.

Ralston in , 3 injuries away from Hayes,Hendry and Morgan , squad is a shambles

    Thoughts ?

  11. Henrik, Every squad in the World would be a shambles if all their players got injured at the same time.

We have just beaten the Swedish Champions 6-1 over 2 legs, an incredible performance and the next morning you think it’s appropriate to come up with that kind of nonsense, what on earth is your agenda.

    Thoughts ?

    ____

First of all, Morgan would only be in the squad before the coach prefers him to Sinclair, Arzani & Shved. On top of that, we would have options to shuffle the pack a bit. Put Ntcham in central midfield and shift either McGregor or Christie to the left.

If Hendry plays that’d mean that Elhamed, Ajer, Simunovic & Bitton would all have been injured. That’s the type of injury list that’d rock any squad.

Who’d be playing alongside Van Dijk if Matip, Lovren, Fabinho & Joe Gomez were all injured?

As for Hayes at LB, we definitely need a new one and that needs to be addressed by the close of the window.

  15. Social media can be utterly Toxic.

Celtic are looking Fantastic going forward. Neil is building a whole new back 4. That takes Time.

Deelighted with the Bhoys in the dugout and on the park.

    Come on the Glasgow Celtic.

  16. Boli -an attacking wing-back rather than a fullback. A whole-hearted trier who does add another dimension to the offensive play.

Been reading some “interesting” stuff on Bauer, who is really Swiss . He wants to have a herd of sheep . After Austria suffered a bad defeat he went on a pilgrimage to Rome and offered to join the Vatican Swiss guard . I think he burned his boats with Austria by threatening to burn the passport.

Get Melling in, Bauer now in, keep Ajer and Julien in the middle, with Jozo, Bitton and Boli as back up.

Arzani back, Schved settling in, Bayo scoring and the Griff too and maybe Sincliar and Lenny make up. Squad looking none too shabby. LB, CM and FW for me…

    Thoughts?

  18. On Sunday I would start with Eddie and Jamsie – with Ntcham bolstering the mid-field then bring on Mikey in the second-half to polish them off. Easy.

  20. Sunday’s game is about 2 things.

    1) The result – we can win but we need to ‘ned’ up. We can’t let them bully us like last times.

    2) The songbooks – hope our fans don’t give the observers ammo to say…’see, one’s as bad as the other.’

Fans say the only thing that can stop our club doing 10, is the club itself.

As far as UEFA punishment for alleged racist chanting goes, only our fans can stop that possibility.

Cut it out or call it out. HH

  21. Cheers boys 👍

All I’m basically saying is do you think we’re stronger this time around because personally I don’t think we are but we still have a few days left of this window and I’m hoping we get it right.

  22. CELTIC ROLLERCOASTER,from last night,

“We have destabilised in defence with the loss of,KT,Boyatta,Benkovic”

Where to start.Benkovic was on loan.KT,wanted to leave.Boyatta wanted to leave. To replace players of this calibre, would cost us over £50 million.

Our replacements, one, not yet played, will need a bit of time to gel.Not easy with Celtic,as once again our back line being destroyed by injuries.Seemingly impossible to get a regular back 4 for any length of time.Maybe further back, but I have never seen an injury list of defenders ,going back 3 seasons, anything like this.

To do as well as we have is a miracle.

  23. mullet and co 2 on

The Daily Record Sport twitter feed tweeted an hour ago that Rangers were facing a 3rd charge for sectarian chanting in their match vs Sviatchenkos team.

    Now removed.

  24. Apart from KT,I think this squad is better than last season.More quality cover at RB,more cover at CH,Christie,Eddy,Jamesy,Calmac, now showing us all their real quality.Eddy,Griff,Bayo, who looks a danger, all vying for strikers role.Once our cursed luck with injuries clears up a bit,and another LB,which I am sure is coming,we are good to go.Have not seen this kind of attacking football since TB team.

Why don’t you get a season ticket for there then and you can stop fretting about the state of the South stand t Paradise 😉

  32. I think it’s appropriate to commend our attacking play and our interchanging play AND still have defensive concerns.

We have not looked like we have a well embedded defensive system. Individual players, who were scapegoated, have improved (slightly) but the defence still looks undercooked. This is maybe not surprising given regular changes of personnel but that will continue for a few matches yet.

In the absence of a settled back 4 and a well drilled system, the best we can do at Ibrox on Sunday is to screen that defence with both Brown and Calmac, and, I would add Ntcham at the expense of one winger. Christie and Forrest can support Eddie’s attacking forays but we need to draw their sting, before we become expansive or hit them on the break.

We are, as a support, investing too much importance in this fixture. It will not be league defining and it should not deal either team an irrecoverable psychological blow. It is just 3 points and we will lose more than one match this season, I am sure.

Nevertheless, because our support is so scared and anxious just now, I think we, the support, can get a boost from a successful result- and even a draw at Ibrox is a successful result- it always has been a hard place to come away from with 3 points.

If, as the bookies suggest, we are unlucky enough to lose the game, I will probably absent myself from these pages and let the venting blow out. There must be a growing awareness, within the professionals at the club, of where our weaknesses are currently. Let’s see them earn their corn by balancing this out.

    2 quick changes:-

    1) If Julien plays, pair him with a fast and anticipating CB partner to cover his slowness on the turn. Foe me Simunovic is still our best defensive exponent for that job.

    2) As Boli does and will wander upfield, we need a DM who will stay when he goes. Scott Brown does this well but both Calmac and Ntcham tend to wander up in support of his attacks. At Ibrox, we will need more than Scott Brown, thinking defensively.

There is nothing in the Rangers defence that scares me- they are all players we have regularly beaten. Only Jack has improved the standard of his play- the rest are older and less effective as defenders (Tavernier, Goldson, Davis etc;).

The main concern I have is of Defoe or Morelos against Julien on the ground. Well that and a whistle happy ref.

  33. Tombhoy

ok i will bite …………. your typing shite, ibrox looks like what it is, an edwardian redbrick toilet block.

the panelled oak, the stairs the marble, the statue all reeks of establishment , like a masonic lodge or an old court house, the corridors full of graphics of a history that belongs to another club, the dressing rooms, bog standard.
