Ajax, Fenerbahce, Molde for Celtic

980

It’s a return to to seed Ajax, which is a good football draw, although the Ajax fans and Amsterdam police make it an unwelcome tie for other reasons.

Fenerbahce lost their Champions League qualifier to Shakhtar Donetsk before beating Greek club Atromitos in the Europa League play-off round. There were no easy teams in pot three, Fenerbahce are about par for the group.

Molde beat Dinamo Zagreb and Standard Liege, so deserve some respect, they will fear no one in this competition.

Happy with the draw, it could have been a whole lot more difficult but as always, we have to arrive prepared as there are no hiding places in Europe.

GOLFERS!

There’s a chance to win a round of golf for four of you at the magnificent Aberdour course, scene of the annual CQN Open, for £1. Taggsybhoy has provided this opportunity, to raise funds to support the Celtic Foundation’s work. If you want to cheer yourself up after a hard week, read about the Foundation’s work here.

But after you’ve read that, get onto ebay here and enter the raffle. You’re even allowed to win it for a friend, so pile in.

A box full of backpacks, pencils and cups for Malawi just arrived at my office (thank you) ahead of tomorrow’s collection at the Celtic Way before the game. Remember to bring along your old backpacks, pencils and handtowels if you have any.

  1. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

My son is watching sky sevco news. He shouted me to watch it

They emphasised that Virgil trained on his own. He was on his bike, training one that is, in the gym.

They also showed Ronny being interviewed but only after showing Warburton being interviewed.

Their editorial team are as bad as our lovely media.

  2. Not sure what’s worse De Bryne getting 200k a week,or Clarkson getting 800k per episode of new Top Gear programme

  3. Having re-watched the Tuesday game, i am convinced that the major problem was the tactics employed by the manager. The Malmo manager changed his tactics to address weaknesses in the Celtic lineup. He did the same in the second half in Glasgow. Our manager seemed incapable of spotting what was happening and of making effective changes. If he learns from the experience all will be well;if he does not the EL will be a disaster.

Ronny has many excellent qualities and I want him to succeed but i worry about his rush to blame the players after a reverse. His “scared” comment, although exagerrated by the media, is the latest. The fact that it was refuted by the three senior members of the squad says a lot. Let us hope the rift is not long term.

Ronny is a great behind the scenes manager. He has set about changing the culture of the club….there will be long term benefits of this. However, if he does not address two weaknesses within the club, he will fail. Firstly, he needs to adjust the transfer policy…..sign prospects but bring in one or two experienced(not top class) players. Certainly one at CF. forget trying to sign a good prospect for this position. This has failed too many times. Players like Sonderlund of Rosenborg and Daniel Bode of Ferencvaros would do a good job for Celtic for at least a couple of years, giving time to develop our own. Secondly, he needs to improve his tactical awareness, either personallyor getsome help in. Neither of these initiatives require vast outlay.

Surely there are boundaries on this site regarding hate speech & bigotry?

With the quote attributed to the above poster at the time stated enough to get his ignorant ass papped off the site.

Tough draw. Big game for us at the weekend. Would of course like to see the champions show their calibre.

  6. Surely we’ll be bringing in a couple of defenders in the next few days?

Two right backs have left and Lustig injured.

  7. Sorry if posted earlier but over £700 million spent this summer in the Premier league

    That’s just obscene

Tough draw for us, I’m excited

  8. Coneybhoy & Foghorn Leghorn – great replies to M6BHOY’s post, stupidest one I’ve seen in a while.

Let’s back Ronny tomorrow , make him feel loved !!

  9. Mode – Champions of Norway, home in the Fjords – they are the ‘Rangers’ of Norway..nickname “The Norwegian Blues” – I am sure that we could knock them off their perch, ‘nail down’ a good home win and leave them “pining” and ex-Europa Leaguers.

  10. why o why are we chasing another young midfield player, our back 4 is dire , defensive qualities zero, CM should have played his last game a long long time ago. EI has been told to find another club. we must invest in defenders who can defend first and charge forward second.

  11. I sincerely hope we have a scouted list of players that we are pursuing now. Hopefully, we are not started to evaluate targets with 3 days to go.

  12. Graeme Shinnie was one that got away I thought he was outstanding in the Scottish semi final last year.

    Certainly not

    ==============================

Ronny will be playing a 1-10 formation – the ten will all be good ball players, and we will advance from a throw-out on our eighteen-yard line, as a ten-man unit, passing to each other and not letting the opposition get a ‘sniff’ of the ball.

When they have we will have two banks of five constantly ‘snapping’ away until we win it back.

The we will give to Craig to throw out to the eighteen-yard line and proceed as before to score another goal.

Players will not be designated as Defenders/Midfielders/Strikers – all outfield players will be called De Midstrikes.

There will be no problem with other teams ‘poaching our players – because we will be the only club to use De Midstrikes.

All the tactics in the world wont win you a game if the men in charge cant spot a blatant hand ball, and a perfectly good goal, from a few yards. If that goal had stood, and the game finished that way,no matter how badly we played,RD would be a hero on here tonight.

    Very small margins.

Quick look at today ‘ s Fitba Pink in an Italian bar in Soho .Europa League Preview on Page 13.Lazio fan behind the bar in a state of depression in consquence of Borussia Moenchengladbach 3 – Lazio 1. – ” I have no delusions about being a good team but they made us look like schoolboys .Thursday night / Monday night football ? No thanks ! “

  19. If signing Christie to loan back is true then there must be serious interest from elsewhere and if we don’t make our move now we will lose out.

Good player, him and Armstrong were the two young Scottish players in SPFL that I wanted us to sign.

Possibly Johansen’s replacement come the summer but I’d get him in now and he can replace Stokes/Boerrigter in the squad. Get used to playing for the club and with our squad. Forward planning? Probably never catch on at CP but you never know.

  20. Did anyone hear Keevins and Hannah etc on Radio Clyde last night. They took great pleasure in putting the boot into Ronnie and Celtic. Yes, it was a bad result the other night, but my god they sounded like they had been waiting for ages to get tore into Celtic and the manager. Keevins was spouting rubbish about how Rangers will challenge Celtic next year and wait for this, how they could have more money than Celtic to spend. He reckons The Glib and Shameless Liar may be working quietly behind the scenes getting deals done to make them millions. I just wish Celtic fans would stop calling this programme and giving Keevins etc a platform to spout their rubbish.

  21. I heard he was dead on

Getting in the brightest and best in our league is a good idea if we cannot attract enough good players from abroad at this time.

Christie has ability. Signing and loaning back is a clever idea. Allows him to develop and stops him playing against us.

I said it this morning – Commons and Brown cannot go on forever. Preparing Allan, Christie, Henderson and Armstrong to replace them is a good plan.

  22. Hard to make this site up.How long have people on here been moaning about the fact that we let players,we should have signed slip away. Then we could not afford them.

Now we seem to be trying to buy the best in Scotland, and its still not good enough.”We need CHs,LBs ffs”

Some not even able to comprehend that signings like Christie, are for the future, not now.

How did Hoopy get on at the football mascot charity race at Hamilton races

He must have won. If he’d lost it would have been the main headline on the Radio Clyde news and Keevins would be on Superscoreboard telling everyone Ronny’s a dud and Broxi Bear will win next year!

  24. coorslad…

Great news mate, TCR will be glad to get home to his family. HH

As for the draw… It won’t be easy to get through but hopefully Tuesday taught us a lesson.

Like most I was more angry about our performance than the result, it was always fifty/fifty to go through for me.

There’s been a lot of good posts the past few days, so I thought it best to take a backseat with my opinion on the game and maybe best I still do :)

  25. can we please sign a couple of players who have EXPERIENCE! rather than great potentials. Secondly , wouldn’t it be lovely to have a defender or two who can …………….erm , defend and tackle , roll the sleeves up and let opponents know we are streele.

FFS Celtic – the template is plastered on every wall at Celtic Park – the 1967 team , with its flair , style , guile and arrogance – by god they were mighty hard!!

  26. broon01 on 28th August 2015 5:59 pm

Never mind Celtic fans stopping calling the programme, stop listening. You’re life will improve beyond measure.

I stopped listening years ago and am a much better more balanced individual as a result.

    Step away from the radio!

  27. I’m sure that by Tuesday we will have signed a centre half (hopefully with a bit of experience and not a loaned from Man City youth team) and a left back (to replace Izzy not be his back up).
