Alan Muir, what a performance, FAC, Nadir

394

There was no vandalism, pitch invasions or general misbehaviour at Fir Park on Saturday.  What we had instead was Motherwell and Celtic fans engaged in a collective protest against the Offensive behaviour’ Act.

Fans Against Criminalisation put the issue plainly:

“Every single mainstream opposition party in Scotland opposes this Act, as do many notable lawyers, sheriffs, political commentators and Celtic Football Club.

“We call on the Scottish Government to accept that this legislation has achieved nothing other than to criminalise ordinary football fans and to repeal it as a matter of urgency.

“The Scottish Government cannot reasonably expect football fans to meekly accept the harassment they face nor the attacks on their rights to freedom of speech.”

Delighted to see Nadir Ciftci grab a poacher’s goal on Saturday.  This is the kind of goal he should be scoring lots of.  Hopefully it’ll become a more regular occurrence.

Well done to referee Alan Muir for an outstanding performance on Saturday.  It takes a lot to turn in that kind of performance, don’t think it’s easy.  Put yourself in his shoes (with Motherwell facing different opponents, obviously).

Think of the pressure you would be under to give one or both of those penalties.  It can’t be easy to have watched Kieran Kennedy take the legs from Scott Brown, then dive to save the ball with his hand, and tell everyone that no offense took place.  Don’t underestimate how hard that was for Alan Muir.

  1. So, who has the rights to the movie – the rise and demise of an institution. It will be a blockbuster.

Fans of a certain persuasion will attend in droves to hurl abuse at the Dick Dastardly types.

Fans not of that persuasion will attend in droves to marvel at a modern day comedy that rivals the greats of the black and white era (this time in Green and Whyte). Laurel and Hardie, Harold Lloyd, Charlie Chaplin and best of all Keystone Cops.

Maybe that’s why there is so little information coming from the SMSM – they are all too busy writing the script.

  2. Beetroot is one of those acquired taste foods, it reminds me of school dinners, where even only hardened certain teachers would dare ‘eat’. The food came in alumininium cannisters, delivered in a special bus, nobody ate it, even when you were starving.

Olives, detested the bloody things. On a holiday in Spain some years later (odd how food always tastes better in the sun) I started trying them again and can’t stop eating them now.

Same with beetroot, hated it for years, but then made myself eat it on account of it being a “superfood”.

Quite like it now, even going so far as to make up smoothies with ‘the boy in laws’ the Nutri-bullet machine. Don’t think I’m quite ready to start with borsch, though I would try it.

I’m told by a mate who’s wife is Russian that it’s disgusting.

BSR – don’t listen to your Mate! Try Borsch as soon as you can find a good recipe.

My Azerbaijani Wife makes it regularly, and I love it (and her).

  5. IMHO the door s left open for Muir , McLean , Thomson , etc to do to celtic as they will . Never have they been taken to task by anyone . Oh you celtic fans debate the scandal of the constant cheating , but that’s as far as it goes , never a cheep from the club . We all saw what happened down govan way on Saturday , another penalty when the 100% win run was under threat , another 5 opposition players booked . Still in a few years time , coming to a Masonic hall near you guest speakers , aye you’ve guessed it Muir, McLean , Thompson , et al .

My Canadian buddy, who has a Russian wife, when fed borscht, usually wakes up on the couch.

I’ve been to Madrid before but apart from petty crime is there anything I should do / look out for.

  8. Update on the intrepid trekkers raising money for St Andrew’s Hospice.

The party returned over the weekend and are all recovering, nursing their bruises and clearing the dust from their lungs, hopefully with a beer or three.

Mary has posted some updates and pictures, unfortunately they only allow 10 pictures.

There is still time to donate to the great work the Sisters of Mercy and their teams do in providing palliative end of life care in the Airdrie Hospice.

    BSR,

    a bit unfair I feel.

You will never make a historian or a journalist but an agony Aunt is a distinct possibility.

I am not going to bore you about my stance and how , where and when it came about as you really should know already. For someone who spends so much time on here you gotta do better

For meit was our quiet acceptance of the 5 way agreement.

SInce then I have thougt it is better to have Celtic men at the helm that understand Celtic rather than liars and thieves … taking money under false pretences is theiving.

Celtic plc and its main shareholder is enthralled by the Old Firm. It is the only idea they have. I said that on my first post on CQN. In fact it is the only reason that they got involved in the first place and the hope of an EPL invite.

I gave up on them after the 5 way agreeement. The day after CQN became Celtic equivalent of the News of the Screws as far as I was concerned. Coincidence … I dont think so.

I believe that we need Real/TRUE/GENUINE/CELTIC men at the helm.

THE ONLY QUESTION LEFT FOR YOU BSR IS WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO FOLLOW ME.

DERMOT DESMOND is going to put you in your place for sure and an OLD FIRM fan you will become.

That is not a fantasy … like the hundred of other Rangers friendly fire initiatives from our custodians since their situation happened. No Fantasy about it. Nor any fantasy about present Celtic fans supporting an Old Firm friendly board.

I will be on here regularly to see which way the wind swings and to take the flak if I am wrong, I will not excpect any apologies I dont expect that from Old Firm fans.

BSR – just noticed that the recipe I posted states that all the solids should be discarded after the 4-hour simmer.

That’s not the Azerbaijani way – the meat is part of the soup as-served.

    Enjoy!

I’ve just sent her and the young lad out to the market, so that she can get started on a fresh pot first thing tomorrow morning, and I’ll be having Borscht for Tuesday’s lunch.

  15. I get the fact that the Scottish rugby match was a WC quarter final but the furore over it is galling .

A dubious decision goes against Scotland and the msm goes into over driven over the injustice of it all.

When will they turn their indignation to McLean, Muir Collum et Al?

What chances of any of these characters running from the field ashamed of their performance?

I’ve never, and never will be unfair to you. You have ‘moaned’ since CQN 1 through 12. I’m part time here, but as full time, as it gets at Celtic Park, ( but you already know that ) I watch carefully for yours, and certain other posters.

    How fair, can I get?

If Dermot Desmond and Celtic say carry on, really, really, really say, carry on regardless, I’ve already confided, with you …………………………………….I’m out.
