Alcohol, poor facilities and dignity at Ibrox

1766

I’m a bit confused at the chat this morning of reintroducing the sale of alcohol at football games.  Alcohol is available for sale at games at Celtic Park, you just need to have a ticket for an expensive enough seat.  If you’re in the cheap seats, you get to queue to pay for some cola.  Is people’s ability to pay an indication of their likelihood to behave in a dangerous or criminal way with some alcohol in their blood?

This implication has always troubled me.

Alcohol, wherever it is sold, inevitably leads to over-indulgence and potentially dangerous behaviour, and requires strong stewarding, whether that is at a night club, or in the No. 7 restaurant.  Scotland’s licenced premises have changed beyond recognition in recent decades.  They are increasingly well-lit, family friendly and safe places to be.  They now sell better beer too, but our nation’s problem with alcohol remains acute.

Society needs to be educated on how to use alcohol responsibly; good venues are part of the solution.

While we are on the subject of facilities at Celtic Park…….  I go months without buying food or drink in the North Stand, Upper, for good reason.  Last week (pestered by one of the boys), I left for the kiosk with 40 minutes on the clock, didn’t get served until the second half started, only to be told there were no hotdogs or pies left.

You know me, I’m not one to get angry at Celtic, but the sheer frustration pushed me over the top, and I didn’t have a drink!  If you’re charging circa £4 for something that’s costing less than £1, make sure stock is sufficient.  Have two people serving each side of the kiosk, not two on one side, with a single person making hardly a dent on the queue at the other.

Needed to get that off my chest.

The ‘news’ this morning that Rangers International are trying to sack commercial director, Imran Ahmad, is more curious for being news than in itself.  Is it even possible for this news to be anything other than a leak from a director against another director?  These newspaper people don’t do irony, they just take careful notes and go write up their story.

This whole episode is beginning to feel a bit like sitting out the back when the neighbours don’t realise their bedroom window is open.  You can hear the noises and you looked up and caught a glance at something horrific looking.  It’s something you’ll laugh about later with your friends but these people really need to acquire some dignity.

Many happy returns to ole pabbers, much missed from the ole parish.

He didn’t play much george jones from memory, but he was definitely one of the good guys.

  2. So Teflon Ally lives to eat another day?

The man who wholeheartedly backed Murray, Whyte, then Green, and who gave positive overtures to Ng and Miller, is now content to see Ahmad walk away.

Combined with his appalling football management, isn’t it about time someone in the MSM starting questioning Ally’s all-round judgement?

Every shyster that turns up at Ibrox is greeted with the same warm, unquestioning, puppy-dog welcome. “It was a positive meeting, there’s absolutely no doubt about that. We’ll have to see what happens, and its not for me to judge, but I was impressed. Very impressed…. yadda yaddda yaddda…

  3. In the Tom English piece above, he has decided to insert [acceptable], where fat sally didn’t say it. This has changed the meaning of what sally said.

    Good!!!!

  6. Previous several days have read great pieces from my favourites James Forrest,BR&T and TBB (economical care of cats! laugh). Summa of Sammi-4-56 well done one of the few decent reads since yesterday afternoon.

I posted earlier about SFTB’s over the top repeated offers to “see you anywhere,anytime-you’re yellow which he had the grace to acknowledge, apologise for and banish himself for a cooling off period. Now we’ve had hours again because of blogs from Kojo and TSD. Think I will check on McCarthyism, don’t think I will change my mind, always 2 sides but as with Thatcher? Then Nig Nogs. Think when a boy did mean clueless, useless but could be applied to blacks (maybe original use?). Incidentally I worked at Nigg for many years, we were all Niggers, white or black! Nin Nongs-never heard of it? Previous to this Hobbits-those hairy footed Leprechauns was the insult of the day!!

One thing I have noted is that Kojo/TSD rarely, if ever, tell people what to do or not to do, say or not….,no personal insults or call outs. Don’t turn up to meet people who they know don’t like them, Seems sensible!

Not that I agree with what they say but they are becoming the underdogs that many like to defend. Indeed I found Macjay1’s blog to my thinking.

Maybe in years past this site was mainly a bunch of like minded Celtic supporting pals having occasional tiffs after a tipple but that’s long gone. Far outgrown that! Now more differencies, more anger, more invectives. Always said if you give you have got to be able to take it!! We know what we should do to solve our own problems, most of us are old- have we learnt? SFTB seems to have solved his own problem remarkably well to coincide with his further studies, good luck to him If we read something, take out what we can learn from, discard the rest. The world becomes too small on here, introverted? Ihave been putting in more hours all the time, hovering, waiting for total downfall almost every week, which never comes, and that causes me so much more anguish and desperation than any blogger can.

Wait a minute here! Have I accidentally just hit on the actual reason why we all need tranquilisers???. This long period of cover ups, corruption, wrong legal decisions. the SFA how I long for them to be gone. I can laugh at the shit they’re in but it doesn’t compare with my anger and frustration that the SFA will just change the rules or ignore them!!

This is still a site with much beauty, wisdom and insight with the best Celtic reportage. Lets all try to keep it that way.

Over the years too much time and effort has gone into deciphering the john birch circle jerk.

They do a great deal of harm and their positive contribution to the blog seems minimal.

The net result is that the good guys leave in droves and opinion on here gets more and more polarised.

However, thanks to him I have endeavoured to personally meet and keep in touch with as many CQNers as I can. Why, because he typified everything what this Site is about. I still have a great many of you to meet.

Thank you Steve. Certainly gone but certainly not forgotten. Thank you my Celtic friend and fellow CQNer.

Today is international workers’ memorial, up and down the country local trades councils have organised events to remember those who went to work and didn’t come home . as the current parcel of rogues are intent on making the workplace increasingly dangerous, the slogan of the day is ‘remember the dead, fight for the living’.

The Glasgow event is at the People’s Palace at 12 midday.

The question is not whether or not there is some ancient alternative meaning to an offensive word. The question is, can a person professing no intent to offend, claim they could not predict the offence it’s use would cause. For if they cannot so claim, and it seems to me ludicrous that they should try, then the offence is, at best foreseen and, more likely, fully intended.

“Jordan Rhodes scored a golden goal for Blackburn against Crystal Palace. I was hoping they got relegated and maybe get him on the cheap.”

I had been struck with identical hopes myself…

Without coming over all Kev Jungle I can’t shake the disconcerting rumour that the club could have agreed a transfer of the player for circa £4 million early in the summer. Allegedly an opportunity we squandered. Trouble with rumours, of course, is there is no way of knowing if they have any substance. I know this only to well but, for some reason I can’t help but let it wrankle…

  15. DBBIA, well said (written)

kojo/collie/pookah personae don’t call people names but they do. The collective have professed their dislike of ad-hominems however they post such things as “only a fool/insert ad-hominem would say xxx” when xxx is the other person’s point of view.

It was SFTB who caugh t them out on this recently.

And last night they DID call people names. I’m sure they also have identities as “reasonable” posters, too, who will come on in the aftermath.

They are a complete, articulate fabrication designed to liven up the blog/create controversy. They’re certainly not Celtic supporters.

All they do is drive people away from this blog and create division. I don’t think that’s what Paul67 had in mind for CQN.

    I’ve had enough.

Happy birthday Pablophanque. We would have met had it not been for my reticence. I regret it.

  16. Another rangers about to implode…

    Harry Redknapp admits QPR’s season

has been hampered by a huge rift

    between squad members over wage

    disparity.

Rangers must beat Reading to have

any hope of avoiding relegation but

even if they win at the Madejski their

two-year stay in the top flight will

    end should Aston Villa beat

    Sunderland on Monday.

    And one area which Redknapp

believes has caused problems for the

club is the gulf in wages between

those players who were signed on

    large salaries after Tony Fernandes’

takeover and those who battled to

get the team promoted in the 2010-11

    campaign.

The likes of as Julio Cesar, Jose

    Bosingwa, and Park Ji-sung, were

given big pay packets when they

signed last summer in line with their

    reputation as experienced and

    successful players.

    However, Ryan Nelsen and Jermaine

Jenas – both free signings from

Tottenham – and Spurs loanee Andros

    Townsend, have made a bigger

    impact despite being on lower

    salaries.

“I would be lying if I said there were

not splits in the camp here,” said

Redknapp. “That has been obvious for

everyone to see all year. It has been a

    big problem I think.

“I haven’t had this too much

anywhere else, but when we came it

was obvious there was a problem.

“It is difficult with players earning

differently. It’s not a problem if you

are playing with Robin van Persie or

Steven Gerrard and they are getting

    £130,000 or £140,000 a week – but

someone else is getting £50,000 –

because you don’t mind if they are

worth it and are so good.

“So that’s a problem if players look at

others and think: ‘he ain’t that good’.

    That’s when you get problems.

    People don’t mind others getting

good money if they earn it.”

Here’s to Lenny and the bhoys making short shrift of the uninventionists this afternoon.

    So Mr Ahmad has gone?

Interesting, the Gers want their club back.

Well, I take their point, I’d like that flat with views over the Hughenden Valley back, I’d like my original In the City 45 back but most of all I’d love my mummy back.

Still I sold the flat, some b@$£@¡d nicked my Jam single and my Sainted Mother is dead.

I read what Mr Ahmad in IamRangers mode said…

Apart from wishing ill fortune on our Hero I thought he was pretty much spot on.

When Rangers died because the Gers did not want to pay off the debt.

Did not want some Trucker from America with the Bona Fides to take over their team.

Did not want the hassle of starting a new Club and running it properly.

When they prefered to sit on their Bums moaning about other people sitting on their bums.

Some enterprising Englishmen with a heads up from the Whyte Knight and the wherewithal decided to raise the funds and buy the trinkets from that dead Football Team and Do a Barnumesque show from the Big Hoose.

But what these Englishmen didn’t know, yet we always knew the Gers would want THEIR club back for nowt.

Obviously IamRangers (and I’m pretty sure you thought you were Mr Ahmad) has been black balled from “Club”.

He got this crazy idea because he’s a major share holder and Director in the company that owns the Football team he had some say in the institution.

What he didn’t understand is the supernatural, ethereal nature of the Club he thought he bought into.

It is not bound by ANY law…

Be that civil crimminl or physics.

No! This entity is above ALL, comformity in any sense does not apply.

    It must be there.

    It must be strong.
