And they came in huge numbers to buy season tickets

546

Ticket officeThis morning’s images of a chain of people snaking around the Celtic Park ticket office and out towards London Road is remarkable. Even more so when you consider more people were buying season tickets online than queueing from the small hours to make sure they can support Celtic next season.

Frankly, I didn’t think we’d see sights like this until we saw a change in playing environment.

Season ticket sales, together with recent commercial deals concluded with Dafabet and Magners, puts the club on an enormously better financial footing, but the benefits extend beyond what we see today. Peripheral income, such as match day spent at the superstore and at kiosks, will have a corresponding lift.

Now if we get Champions League income on top of this………….

  1. Gentleman opposite me in the airport lounge is reading a Daily Record. The back page headline is “For its a grand old team to PAY for”

    Can’t read the article but…

Is this about Zlatan? Paying to play for us?

  2. Good morning freidns from a repetitively dry, bright, hot, sunny and predominantly cloudless East Kilbride.

And speaking of repetition, here’s a wee copy from a post I made last night.

So I decided to go online there “as if” to buy a season ticket. Map of the stadium comes up and if this is accurate (and no reason to doubt it) then there are only about 1300 seats left available to buy! Admittedly, Sections 415 to 419 (where the banners have been the last couple of years) are currently shown as ‘unavailable’ so I’m assuming they haven’t been released yet. being the saddo that I am I’ve just spent about 10 minutes counting the wee green dots, or estimating where there were too many to hurt my failing eyesight. Figures for each section are as follows with an asterisk showing where I just made a reasonable guesstimate.

Lower tier – just 14 seats available as follows –

    113 – 1

    121 – 7

    122 – 2

    123 – 3

    139 – 1

Upper Tier section by section –

    401 – 5

    402 – 55*

    Have a fine day y’all!

  3. In response to media suggestions all these tickets are being bought cos the Ragers are “back” in the SPL, I only ask this… If they are all so excited at the Ragers being “back”, why are they buying tickets to see Celtic every other week? Surely they would by tickets to see the Ragers instead? Simple. Just like the SMSM.

    So…

It was obvious from about January that they were gonna be “back” next season.

Yet there was no great rush from Celtic supporters to make sure that they had a season ticket for it.

Maybe something happened apart from that, something which actually IS important to Celtic supporters, something which energised us.

It sure as hell isnae the huns.

  7. Packed my Matt off early this morning to the airport with a pate sandwich and a fun sized mars bar.

Rest assured he’ll be back tonight after his high powered executive meeting in the city to tell you all where you went wrong, especially that setting the beans free chap. My man thinks he’s the second most brainy fellow on here, behind himself of course. He couldn’t lace my Matt’s sandshoes and he’s nowhere near as good in the bed area.

Celtic fans fund £2.4m Brendan Rodgers wages in ONE day as thousands snap up season tickets

    06:00, 7 JUN 2016

    BY MICHAEL GANNON

HOOPS charge past the 41,000 sales of last season as supporters camp out overnight and queue for hours to back their new manager.

CELTIC fans have made a season-ticket surge to cover the cost of the Brendan Rodgers revolution in just one day.

The Hoops coffers were swelled after thousands snapped up briefs on the first day of the general sale that wiped out the new manager’s £2.4million annual salary in a matter of hours. The club was last night still tallying the ticket rush but it’s believed the stampede could boost fan revenue to almost £25m – with sold-out signs also hanging in front of several hospitality sections.

Parkhead sources were thrilled with the massive crowds and huge demands as they charged past the 41,000 total of last term and added thousands more on day one of the sales.

Celtic haven’t smashed the 50,000 barrier since 2009-10 having peaked at 54,000 in Martin O’Neill’s first year as boss in 2000.

The maximum up for grabs this term has been capped at 52,000 and it’s felt that isn’t out of reach.

Eyebrows were raised when the club decided to break the bank to appoint Rodgers on a £45k-per-week deal but it’s already paid for itself as fans back the boss.

Punters flocked to the ground yesterday morning with queues reported from 6.30am – three hours before the briefs went on sale – with some diehards even camping out overnight.

The tills kept ringing all day as club officials handed out water and suntan lotion to fans standing for hours in the Glasgow heat.

The incredible scenes at Celtic came just days after a season-book blitz at rivals Rangers where 33,000 snapped up renewals with Dave King insisted the club were on course to match their highest total of 43,000 from 2006-07.

Meanwhile, Stefan Johansen will have showdown talks with Rodgers about his Celtic future when he returns to pre-season training.

The Norwegian, who has a year left on his deal, has been in contact with his new manager and was impressed with what he had to say.

He said: “The manager gave me a positive impression. He was incredibly nice.

“I’ve spoken to the club about a new contract but we didn’t get anywhere. We’ll talk about it again with the manager when I get back from holiday.”

I hope there isn’t a false veneer being put on the change at the club and that we are not still heavily invested in the John Park Man City axis.

Does Brendan Rodgers rate the players previously scouted and secured?

It’s great that we have sold so many tickets and the turnover is on track for something of a record but it will be a false veneer unless change is made to our recruitment. So far the players we are being linked with fills me with dreed.

How much does Rogic pay his agent btw.

Oh And the Queer comments by MON don’t make good reading and nor does his non existent explanation. Football has reshaped it’s racist attitudes it’s about time homophobia was properly addressed. I thought MON was intelligent.

If it wasn’t for the huns being promoted, and The old Firm now being back in business, Brendan Rodgers would be nowhere near Celtic park.

  17. My friends in Celtic,

Reading back : it is patiently obvious that delayed effects of sunstroke were being played out. Wanton ballfoonery and ballbbaggery abounding.

I have a simple solution to the boycotters and those considering starting a new team.. Give your fingers a rest, prise yourselves away from the keyboard and make your way up to Celtic park and speak to the queuing supporters in person.

Dig out your old Sandwich Board and all you need to do is add to the words ” The end is neigh” if ” you don’t boycott.

However make sure you bring your own water and sunscreen, remember ” beware Beware Greeks bearing gifts” just in case the water is laced with any goodness or positivity .

If Celtic had continued on their previous course-by which I mean downsizing,so no Brendan Rodgers-the huns would have sold more tickets than us.

That would have eventually shook them out of their torpor.

It doesn’t matter what you think was the catalyst for change. Only that change happened.

    Finally.

Now we have to carry that first impetus and follow through with blow after blow, before finally applying the hose.
