And they came in huge numbers to buy season tickets

546

Ticket officeThis morning’s images of a chain of people snaking around the Celtic Park ticket office and out towards London Road is remarkable. Even more so when you consider more people were buying season tickets online than queueing from the small hours to make sure they can support Celtic next season.

Frankly, I didn’t think we’d see sights like this until we saw a change in playing environment.

Season ticket sales, together with recent commercial deals concluded with Dafabet and Magners, puts the club on an enormously better financial footing, but the benefits extend beyond what we see today. Peripheral income, such as match day spent at the superstore and at kiosks, will have a corresponding lift.

Now if we get Champions League income on top of this………….

In my opinion Mike Ashley opened pandoras box when he got involved with the Rangers now rightly or wrongly many at the Rangers believe Ashley ripped them off despite him being the only person willing to give them a 10 Million pound loan. The SFA and the Rangers are part of the same establishment and are Masonic organisations and they will trouble Ashley in any way they can he can expect to find trouble around every corner if you sup with the Devil expect him to want his pound of flesh and he and his masonic cronies will exact there revenge. Jamesgang,

As I said, I have had limited viewing of both boys, but I saw similarities in both.

They both have drive and a bit of dig in them, but, as you say, perhaps Ryan is more effective middle to front, whereas John’s beat is the middle of the park.

What is not in doubt is that they are both good players.

With Mc.Gregor, Henderson, Armstrong and Allan also looking to the midfield, plus Brown ,of course, we appear to be well stocked there initially.

Surely BR can fashion a team to take us through the early stages.

Our perennial problem is coming up against big, strong Nordic teams, who are well established into their season.

I have been wondering when the Rangers axis would break cover over Gordon Strachans performance and the appointment of Brian McClair.

The Roxburgh Browns etc of this world along with Smith don’t believe in trying to improve the style of football. Get big lads in who can run and defend is their style regardless of what they might say in public.

It’s clear from Strachans admittance that fear is the biggest factor holding Scotland back that there is an agenda against him. Watch this space.

I remember hearing Gordon Strachan in an interview on R.Scotland.

Asked why the Celtic support were getting restless, he replied that it was fear.

Fear of losing a game, meant that until the game was won, the support would be edgy and inclined to get on the team’s back.

In those days, every game was viewed through the prism of what They were doing.

Every point was a prisoner, because we knew that They weren’t dropping many, aided and abetted by the culture that spawned Captain Unbookable and His Amazing Penalty Record.

These last four years, the fear factor abated and it only rarely surfaced if Aberdeen got a bit close to us.

Will be interesting to see how next season fares in that respect, although attractive winning football would help.

Ballornock bhoy re parking fine. Depends who owns the car park , if its a council they can enforce and you should appeal. If its a private car park (i had a similar issue with one that starts Euro*****), the advice given to me by a lawyer friend was to ignore everything and he emphasised everything. Don’t make contact, don’t acknowledge the ticket, they will write upping the fine, saying it will affect your credit rating (it won’t) saying they will pass onto a debt collecting agency (they did and when I googled the agency it was a wholly owned subsidiary of the car park company…..). After about 6 letters and a year I never heard another word. The lawyer friend told me that Private companies issue you with an invoice, not a fine (it just is made to look like a fine) and to enforce it they would need to raise a private prosecution and prove they lost the amount they are invoicing you for, again if you go to the great God Google, you will see no such case has ever been raised. That’s my experience hope it helps.

Use this site for perusing all things Celtic, mostly enjoying chats/opinions around team performance/opinions on players performances/ team selections etc.

As I sit here, I felt inclined to post some of the many thoughts swirling around inside my head. If you’re as bored today as I am, you may feel inclined to read on. If time is a premium for you today, maybe best to scroll on by. :-)

As the season drew to a close, I couldn’t wait for it to end. Performances were inconsistent. Players/team were underachieving. My beloved club seemed to be on a downward spiral, with CL group matches a thing of the past, and seemingly getting harder to reach.

I dreaded the looming uncertainty of who our next manager would be…what would he change? All in all, feelings were downbeat and disheartened.

Read initial reports linking us with Keane, Moyes and Rodgers…all predictable given they each had a connection with the club. Didn’t get excited, as the 1st didn’t inspire me, and I didn’t expect the other two to entertain any (hypothetical) advances from our club.

Knowing DD had (reportedly) previously offered Keane the job, I feared he would do so again. Whilst I enjoy watching Keane’s forthright views being spouted in his punditry role, I have no confidence in his ability to man manage a dressing room. Managers should be calm and collected IMO – hardly Keane’s MO.

Moyes, IMO, was waiting for an EPL offer to arise, and I would only expect him to open discussions after all EPL vacancies were filled, possibly not til July/August – again, hardly desirable for us.

I expected Rodgers would be outwith our financial reach, both in personal salary and player budget on offer, and I had my doubts about his willingness to come to the SPFL.

So I was incredibly surprised, and delighted to see us capture Rodgers.

He is as good an appointment (and more) as I could possibly have expected. As much as I willed Ronny to succeed – I was hoping we didn’t go for another lesser known “name”.

At a stroke, my downbeat “when will this season end?” mood was transformed into a “when is our next game?” enthusiasm!

Judging be season book sales, I’m not alone!

This is the point weren’t natural “realism” (some would say pessimism) comes to the fore.

I fear we are not in the market, player wise, to compete with England’s overpaid Championship sides – as such I don’t expect any “names” from south of the border to pitch up in Paradise. If they are below their Championship level, will they be good enough for us?

Foreign scouting may be our best recruitment model. Find another Izaguirre/Biton/Kayal type and hope they improve under Rodgers coaching.

I also hope to see existing players improve under Rodgers. We have a few who could blossom under the right coach – I hope Brendan is that man.

Oops – time to go to doc appointment!

    Ramble over (and over).

    Onwards and upwards bhoys. HH
