And they came in huge numbers to buy season tickets

546

Ticket officeThis morning’s images of a chain of people snaking around the Celtic Park ticket office and out towards London Road is remarkable. Even more so when you consider more people were buying season tickets online than queueing from the small hours to make sure they can support Celtic next season.

Frankly, I didn’t think we’d see sights like this until we saw a change in playing environment.

Season ticket sales, together with recent commercial deals concluded with Dafabet and Magners, puts the club on an enormously better financial footing, but the benefits extend beyond what we see today. Peripheral income, such as match day spent at the superstore and at kiosks, will have a corresponding lift.

Now if we get Champions League income on top of this………….

It’s the chicken and egg scenario. Fans are getting behind the club, so now financially we’ll have the buffer to spend on players.

What it seems to have taken the club so long to figure out, is that fans will get behind a manager. A manager is far cheaper speculation than a player or two.

  3. 67 European Cup Winners on

And all this before a ball is kicked – I mean the man no harm – but reality is – its why Ronny had to go

The money the club lost by not qualifying for the past 2 CL Group stages was a bigger reason than the poor football on the park

Moving on – I am a self confessed Paranoia who is at it today type of guy (with great justification over the last 20 years the scum have been cheating)

So did PL and DD dream up a plan – lets be mediocre for a couple of years while the Hun licks his wounds get to 5 in a row, watch the pennies, sell a few on and then when they come back batter them harder than we have ever battered them before ??

    Just a thought

  4. If online ST map is anything to go by I’d say there’s about 200 left in JS lower and maybe 1500-2000 between JS and North Upper. That just leaves the ‘Special’ seats.

Boys and girls we’re heading for a sell out.

I doubt that was the case, events transpired to slap them in the face wi a severe wallop.

Dermot seems to have a habit of letting his managers get on with running the companies to which they are entrusted. With certain targets to meet.

PL played it to the letter.

Dermot took his eye off the ball, our income shrunk dramatically. Fortunately,so did our expenditure.

    Chicken and egg.

Look what happens when Celtic make a positive statement of intent. The fans come out in droves.

We have wasted years on a failed philosophy. Wasted millions too.

Thankfully, that seems to be a thing of the past.

It should serve as a warning to the future too.

Never again sell the fans short.

  7. I’ve upset one or two ladies today regarding the sizes available for the Resolution 12 t-shirts. Accordingly I have done what I have been told to do and added a MEDIUM size. This is now on the CQNBookstore.com site.

So you can order in M, L, XL or XXL and orders are flooding in!

  8. I caught 15 minutes of 5 Live Daily with Adrian Chiles today in which they were previewing the Euros. One of the presenters was doing a team Q&A session with some of the Norn Iron team, all with English accents may I add.

One was asked who the funniest guy in the team was and the reply was Kyle Lafferty. He went on to qualify this by saying it was because Lafferty was so thick. They also asked the whole squad who the thickest person in the team was and to a man they said Kyle Lafferty and that includes KL himself.

    No surprise there then.

    Your points are well made.

We could/should have qualified for CL over the last two years – we were in winning positions and threw it away on the field of play – not in the back office.

Had it been the case, would be where we are now?

Would Ronny still be in place?

Honestly I don’t, however I doubt if we would have ST queues like this morning and/or the general ‘feelgood’ factor.

DD, PL and the board, despite making mistakes from time to time like all human beings, have, in my opinion, the interests of Celtic and Celtic supporters, front and centre in all they do, and try to do.

Let’s hope we are experiencing a renaissance of the kind that transpired at the time of Martin’s appointment – six months in and the previous regime and disappointments were forgotten.

Whilst Res 12 and ‘calling-out’ Sevco and the same club myth are important to some, what we are witnessing now, is that what happens on the park and in the dugout, are the real motivators of the overwhelming numbers of Celtic supporters.

Maybe the uptake in season tickets will at last put to bed the myth about the economic climate being responsible for low uptake and declining numbers.

I argued with many that if the Plc properly invested and treated the support with a bit more respect then the support would buy the season ticket.

However I do believe there are many old firm fans returning.

It was never just one thing though was it. I’ve not renewed this season. It’s partly so that 1/4 of my weekend isn’t spent away from the kids, who’ve decided they don’t want to go but it’s also down to needing the money as my wife is going back to uni and the money covers a quarter of the bills we’d normally pay in the 9 months she’ll be there.

However, I do agree that when there’s a spark, ppl will find away to pay that they may not otherwise have done. I’d say that ‘OF-ism’ would probably have put us up to arounfd the 45k, or certainly prevented any further declines. The Brendan factor will see us sell out.

Ok you count for one, I was actually referring to Plc’s own claims, the economic climate and the huns.

    Starry..,

Be a real shame if they went bust and yer pal had to give up his ticket again, that might be the best way to frame your accusation of glory hunter, ask him what he’ll do if they go out of business and another new club needs to start at the bottom of the professional league structure ?

If he says he’d chuck it again just ask him who he actually supports :)

  20. Yes we want to beat them, yes we want to mock them, yes we want to remind them of their cheating and tax criminality, however anyone who says, Brendan notwithstanding, that the ‘Rangers’ promotion to the Premiership has nothing to do with these high Season Ticket sales, is being disingenious.

Would Brendan have taken the job without ‘them’ in the league? – It is a moot point.

My position on PL – the best CEO in the UK – but for balance I do not believe he is the best scout, talent spotter, manager or anything else he decides he wants to be in charge of – I am hopeful Brendan has the control of all football related matters

It’s an indicator in the sense that if the TO have allocated a certain number to online sales and a certain number to over the counter, if one is limited (as online are getting) then the other is likely to be too.

They probably haven’t fully released the non-renewed seats yet but I see my former seat is no longer available to buy.
