ANGE SOLVES MISSING STRIKER MYSTERY

GREEK striker Giorgos Giakoumakis was expected to make his Celtic debut at some stage after being named as a substitute for the Premier Sports League Cup quarter-final against Raith Rovers tonight.

With the Hoops coasting 3-0 shortly after the interval through goals from Filipe Jota, Liel Abada and David Turnbull, it looked a perfect scenario for the £2.5million frontman, who was signed on deadline day, to make his first appearance.

And when the Fifers went down to 10 men following the two yellow cards for Dario Zanatti, it seemed only a matter of time before Giakoumakis came on to take his Parkhead bow.

CELEBRATIONS…Filipe Jota strikes a pose after the opening goal.

Postecoglou introduced Josip Juranovic, Liam Scales, Ismaila Soro and Nir Bitton from the bench, but there was no show from the frontman who netted 26 goals in the Eredivisie for VVV-Venlos last season.

The fans were mystified at the no show and the Hoops boss, speaking to Premier Sports TV, explained: “He did his calf in the warm-up.

“He has been sent for some scans just now. He’s picked up an injury, unfortunately.”

Postecoglou hopes to have more news on the matter tomorrow, but it is highly unlikely Giakoumakis will be making an appearance in the Premiership encounter against Dundee United in Glasgow on Sunday after this setback.
