Atletico, Malaga, “breathtaking hypocrisy”

I was pleased Hearts won last night as all season I’ve been telling people we will win the league by double figures. Dropping the ball on Wednesday night put that in jeopardy but the gap is back to 12 points ahead of the visit of Motherwell on Sunday.

Ronny is likely to deploy more first choice players for his final game as Celtic manager against a Motherwell team who staged a remarkable recovery after a dreadful 2015, which would have seem them relegated if it weren’t for the huge gap between Premiership and Championship.

It looked like farewell from Emilio on Wednesday but you have to expect a few more will possibly make their final competitive appearances in the hoops this weekend.

I see a “Five-in-a-row but Peter Lawwell just cannot win” article in The Scotsman. Aye, fair enough, but the article ploughs into the Resolution 12 guys, and accuses other Celtic fans of “breathtaking hypocrisy”.

It appears to imply Financial Fair Play rules are not applied elsewhere in Europe (citing Atletico Madrid), so there should be no issues with the rules not applying to Rangers in 2011. I don’t follow Spanish club licencing too closely, but you will remember Malaga being banned by Uefa for having “overdue payables” to the Spanish tax authorities.

The rules ARE applied, clubs are banned from European competition for overdue payables.

I’ve been in touch with both the Res 12 guys and Celtic on this matter this morning (they continue to work together on a daily basis). It’s fair to say both robustly rejected the tone in the article.  I don’t know how this matter will end, but it will not be decided at Hampden, or in a newspaper office – cards marked one more time.

Zlatan on ending his stay at PSG, “I came like a king, I leave like a legend”. And then some.

  1. Haven’t been around too much so I don’t know if the following has come up.

A couple of times this week it has been said that Celtic’s first competitive European match was against Valencia inn the Fairs Cup 1962/63.

Did Celtic not play a competitive match against Sedan a year or two previously?

Just read the Andrew Smith article in the Scotsman, while I would not agree with the slant he puts on what PL says it’s an OK article that many Celtic fans I know would agree with it’s content. More than half the Celtic fans I know consider Sevco as Rangers and make no distinction between the two clubs.

On Res12 I would say over half have no idea it even exists and even more couldn’t really give a flying f”k about it. While some on here might not like the way the club is run there are more people out there that are very happy with the direction PL is taking us and they are glad he is in charge.

While not always agreeing with everything Andrew Smith says at times, he is a Celtic fan who has told it like it is on Sevco over the past few years. I like reading his stuff as I recognise he’s coming from a Celtic perspective and sometimes it’s refreshing to get an honest alternative view on Celtic.

I remember, around that time, playing a ” Continental” side beginning with an `S`. It was competitive all right! I think the score was 3-0 or 3-3. I could, of course, be very wrong 0:-)

    Trivia

Following Celtic’s revival with the return of Willie Fernie the papers were full of how Celtic’s policy of belief in youth was correct, whilst before they had been full about the ‘death-knell’ for Celtic unless they bought some tried and trusted professionals in. No change then in the fickleness of the Press between the 60’s and now.

The second leg of the Anglo-French-Scottish Friendship Cup Friendly. Celtic had lost the first leg away in France 3-0 back in August. Back in for Celtic came captain Peacock who missed the game against Hibs away on international duty.

    Review

Most of the talk about this game was how it most certainly was not anything but friendly. Sedan scored first in the second minute with a cheeky back heel from their cenrtre forward but this was cancelled out a minute later with a goal from Divers. The French club then packed their goal mouth and used every tactic possible to maintain their aggregate lead. Four of the French players were booked as well as Bertie Auld, this despite referee Syme bending over backwards to give the French the benefit of the doubt. Haffey and McNeill had shaky moments for Celtic and the two other Sedan goals came from defensive mistakes. Bertie Auld missed a penalty. The game was played in an orgy of fouling, tugging, pulling and pushing.

  10. EDDIEINKIRKMICHAEL,

Every Celtic fan I know is aware that Sevco are wearing the dead skin of Rangers in liquidation, they are also clear on the fact that Sevco are a new club. As for Res 12 you could be correct maybe the media whitewash has something to do with that. As for the stenographer I couldn’t care less I don’t read the rags.

As one of the Negs I thought PL was reading from Traynors internet bampots.

Why won’t he come on here and answer the bampots unscripted.

Notice he mentioned money wasted in recent seasons. Carefully omitted mentioning who did the wasting and for a whizzer with figures, he did not quantify waste.

I’ll happily donate to the fund

However, have we ever had any interest from say Hibs or Aberdeen fans to be part of this?

Surely a statement from fans of all colours is more striking?

Not a criticism of the guys putting the ad together and working on Res 12. I was just wondering..

PL is asked in the Mail if he saw the Deila time as a gamble. No is the answer and then he goes on to describe it as an experiment in a separate answer to a separate question.

The answer to the first question was to address concerns on his influence on the club brin over bearing the reference to it being an experiment tells you that Ronnys appointment was just that – an experiment.

Why are we experimenting with the key position at the club?

The other aspect of PLs perception of Celtics reality that gets me is that he draws parallels between us and tier 1 England. Our competition is Europe. We don’t meet English competition until the league stage and in all of the years we have made it to this stage have only played Man U. It’s hardly a fair comparison. No one expects Celtic to pay 40 or 50k a week. All we need to do is pay enough for players to attract them to Scotland and pay for those good enough to beat Malmo et al. It’s not rocket science yet we are fed this line all the time.

Lastly, he may well believe he is a Celtic supporter acting in the best interests of Celtic but he cannot side step the issue of shareholders interests not meeting the interests of the customers.

The view that the Celtic board are paternalistic and know what’s best in terms of Rangers, resolution 12, LNS etc etc has not been dealt with. It would be very easy to assume that Celtic board still think they are acting in the best interest of Celtic by giving life support to our rivals in order to keep the competition alive. That could be argued to be a paternalistic view that the Celtic board have. It is a valid concern that has not been addressed. If that was their view that this was the best thing to do for Celtic then they would have an argument but as we are seeing they have misjudged the intelligence of the support.

I still see no evidence that the guys with all the shares and all the money and bonuses view that Rangers cheated and lied or the SFA did the same. I will await further on Resolution 12 before we know if the board are in with the support or have misjudged their strategy.

Paul67 quick note on yesterdays article re Efe….he’s played all season with Craig Gordon who doesn’t come out for cross balls.

That is indeed true, but against St. Johnstone , Efe clattered into Bailly no more than a yard or two from the goal line. The only slightly mitigating factor might have been IF Bailly didn’t give Efe a shout, but Efe seemed to show a lack of awareness.

  20. Lawwell’s on the ropes or else he wouldn’t be giving out SMSM interviews.

He says that he dizny sign the player ?

Neil Lennon went over to watch the striker Diawarra(sp) and, made his mind up to sign him.

When Neil returned, Mo Bangura was signed instead!

    Lawwell is a liar!

Lawwell said that the club would back Neil during all of his trouble off the pitch after the shame-game, only to throw him under a bus as they watched him and, probably had a hand in him being blamed for the entire shame-game-fiasco.

Lawwell said that, all money coming into the club would be re-invested into the team, before changing it to, all the money would be re-invested into the club!

    Lawwell is a liar!

Lawwell has to be gotten rid of or, Celtic will slowly car-crash!

Keep yer season ticket money in yer pocket’s till the res : 12 court findings are laid bare.

Only puppet-managers will be brought in under Lawwell’s watch!

No money int the club until, Lawwell is gone!

Then, get rid of DD(Rangers are a wonderful club).

McCann set up the PLC to keep the fans out!

McCann’s shady pal DD, is now keeping you out!

Turn the tables….this is yer last chance to save what’s left of Celtic’s soul.

Remember a Celtic chairman mouthing malcontent line months before the club was in danger of going under.
