Attitude for Tynecastle

2311

I watched Hearts batter Pat Fenlon’s Hibs into submission at Easter Road last month.  They are not a good team but they have elbows and commitment, often the key resources in a football game.  With our interest in the League Cup and Europe curtailed, and the league title a sure thing, it is enormously important that we remain in the Scottish Cup into the New Year.

Attitude is the most important attribute for Celtic this weekend.

Things you don’t expect to do when you start blogging: I took four calls from journos yesterday asking if I knew a Celtic fan prepared to go on record as an IRA supporter!  I don’t, for the record, not one, so no one else should bother checking.  Lack of support for that organisation and, where support exists, an awareness that representing yourself as such, is not inconsequential, will explain the dearth.  Just as it’s not inconsequential when you represent your club.  I can’t see many inviting the consequences.

I also got a call yesterday and a faxed copy of a contemporary Celtic View (yes, a fax) from a fan who was beside Jock Stein when he went into the crowd at Annfield that day in 1972.  It was all very cordial, of course, no one argued with Jock.

Jock was at the height of his powers.  Five years from the European Cup win, two from his last final and four months since losing a European Cup semi-final on penalties, he had yet to lose a league as Celtic manager.  His comment in the View, “The Wreckers are chanting about things that have nothing to do with football” was respected, Celtic fans went back to football matters.  But this was 1972.  News from Ireland was despairing.  Rangers fans (and according to newspaper reports, Hearts fans) were chanting “UDA” without censure, Celtic fans eventually retorted.

This is all sooo last century, apart from the consequences, of course.

Sharp focus for Sunday…

  1. Bazzabhoy-ta for reply,i was saying we were after Man U .LB Buttner, who cost about 4mil on loan, and we are signing a LB fae Partick Thistle.I was questioning our ambition. With respect McCarthy had over 100 games for Hamilton, most in the SPL.This lad has had about 15?.BTW i posted a couple of months ago ,when Thistle v DU was on TV,that the boy was playing very well, and one to keep an eye on.The Buttner inquiry was based on Baines going to Man U fae Everton, and Izzy as a replacement.Baines to Man U is back on the agenda. It might be nothing ,but could be in line with not replacing quality which has left recently.HH

    I asked this last night

Hopefully someone has some information for me

Maybe I have to start my own clique to get a response

    ————————————————————————

    1) Who funds the GB?

    2) Who elected them as the conscience of Celtic?

    3) What makes them think that such an apparently small minority of ‘fans’ has the right to put ‘our’ club at risk of doing what we want it to do -play football at the highest level in front of a full stadium

I cant answer your questions on the GB,but I will ask you some similar

    Who funds Celtic

Who elected this board to be the conscience of the Celtic fans

What makes this board think that putting out inferior teams,in a packed Celtic Park,to play football at the highest level,is good for Celtic.

If you can answer me,I will do my best to get you your answers.

  3. I can remember the stuff we used to sing in the Jungle……Oh yes.

At least the Green Brigade don’t pish on the back of your leg,or into Whitbread bottles to launch at the poor weans down the front …..(young Ryecatcher was one of the weans who regularly avoided a split open head but got covered in pish from such ‘friendly fire’).

Before some of the auld feckas on here start moralising about the GB,then think back to your macaroon bar and spearmint chewing gum days.

Hail Hail to our sons in the Green Brigade…..UTLR.

So challenge the rules, what gives UEFA the right to breach anyone’s human rights?

Exactly what I said earlier. They tried to do it with Bosman and were humbled.Human rights and free speech are biggies in the European Courts. Not a leg to stand on.Dont care who their sponsors are,or what they want or dont want.

I dont know but I guess that

1- they fund themselves- including the Barcelona display that made Celtic a fortune

2- I dont recall them ever saying they spoke for all of us- only for themselves- even though quite a few of us would agree with most of their sentiments

3- what makes us think that we should accept targeted intimidation by the SNP/ plod/ MSM/ SFA without comment

The thing these organisations fear is the Celtic support getting organised- like the GB are doing and to a certain extent what forums like this do. Imagine what the demise of the deadco would have been like without organised tims shining a light on the shambles- there would have been no evidence of anything anywhere in Scotland

  7. I am huge supporter of the GB however their banners

on Saturday and Tuesday were not in support of the team

and unlike their previous displays they did little to improve the

    atmosphere inside CP.

In saying that the GBs support of the team during the game was faultless.

I’ve listened to all the ‘discsussion’ on the GB

    I’ve heard the for

    I’ve heard the against

I personally believe that the answers to the questions are relevant

My perspective is that the majority of the GB don’t have a pot to p*ss in

    so who subsidised the tifo?,

    who funds the banners ?

question behind the question is – do we have a tiny group who have hijacked a slightly bigger group and indoctrinated on the back of the majority of Celtic fans who don’t vote, understand or agree with their objectives?

    1) Who funds the GB?

    2) Who elected them as the conscience of Celtic?

Any player out of contract in the summer should be left out of the team from now on.

Don’t take them to Barca. Leave them to train with the laddies.

Play the youngsters from now on.

Bloody Nora, we might not need to buy anyone in the summer window, because our youngsters have all made the grade.

    Well, why not!?

    Shame! Shame! Shame!

  21. This seasons CL campaign has been an unmitigated disaster

2 goals (a pen and a deflection) in 5 games.

In football terms we have went backwards

and other than amassing euros in the bank we have achieved very little.

Okay it’s great to be at the party but

a new strategy is required if we are to progress as a club.

  22. Philbhoy - Free the Dam 5! on

If he played for Dundee Utd he’d be in the first team tomorrow. Or whenever their next game is.

    So he would.
