Attitude for Tynecastle

2311

I watched Hearts batter Pat Fenlon’s Hibs into submission at Easter Road last month.  They are not a good team but they have elbows and commitment, often the key resources in a football game.  With our interest in the League Cup and Europe curtailed, and the league title a sure thing, it is enormously important that we remain in the Scottish Cup into the New Year.

Attitude is the most important attribute for Celtic this weekend.

Things you don’t expect to do when you start blogging: I took four calls from journos yesterday asking if I knew a Celtic fan prepared to go on record as an IRA supporter!  I don’t, for the record, not one, so no one else should bother checking.  Lack of support for that organisation and, where support exists, an awareness that representing yourself as such, is not inconsequential, will explain the dearth.  Just as it’s not inconsequential when you represent your club.  I can’t see many inviting the consequences.

I also got a call yesterday and a faxed copy of a contemporary Celtic View (yes, a fax) from a fan who was beside Jock Stein when he went into the crowd at Annfield that day in 1972.  It was all very cordial, of course, no one argued with Jock.

Jock was at the height of his powers.  Five years from the European Cup win, two from his last final and four months since losing a European Cup semi-final on penalties, he had yet to lose a league as Celtic manager.  His comment in the View, “The Wreckers are chanting about things that have nothing to do with football” was respected, Celtic fans went back to football matters.  But this was 1972.  News from Ireland was despairing.  Rangers fans (and according to newspaper reports, Hearts fans) were chanting “UDA” without censure, Celtic fans eventually retorted.

This is all sooo last century, apart from the consequences, of course.

Sharp focus for Sunday…

  1. Seems apt with all the goings on.

    Written by Mrs. TET.

    ……………………………………………………………………………………….

Our Bobby came for Maggie, he offered her his hand.

She asked if he was consort, to the promised land ?

“Ah sure your passage will be safe, there’s plenty there to meet”

Maggie smiled and went with him, till she felt the heat!

“What is this place you take me, where is my throne and crown?

Our Bobby said to Maggie, “I think your going down !”

Ten brave men stood in judgement, deciding on her fate.

The eternal burning fires of hell, or heavens pearly gates.

The first to speak was Raymond, he looked her up and down

With Francis, Joe and Michael standing close, Maggie gave a frown.

While we hungered for justice, your judgement sealed our fate.

It’s the fires of hell for you, ye bitch not heavens pearly gates.

Then Thomas, Kevin, Kieran and Patsy all gave their thought

If Maggie should enter the gates of paradise or not

Martin smiled at Bobby they agreed her fate was sealed.

For crimes again the IRISH, compassion she would not yield.

Then St Peter gave a smile at Gods chosen men

For they were her jury, those bold courageous ten.

He asked what they decided, what is her fate, do tell ?

Bobby smiled and pushed her, into the fiery bowels of hell

Sorry I have been unable to respond to those who have addressed comments to me.

The tyranny of distance and time zones.

The saddest aspect of all this is that it has nothing to do with our common love of Celtic.

It is a topic which has been forced on our Club by the G.B.and,in my opinion,by their mentors in the Celtic trust.

The truth is beauty and beauty truth.

Now,is this the truth? You`ll have to make your own mind up.

However,in view of the fact that it features largely Irish academics describing I.R.A. activities before and during W.W.2,then I feel that there are reasonable grounds for giving it credence.

For those of you with a genuine interest in these matters, and prepared to keep an open mind, give it a go.

It may well help to explain ,in part, the long held antagonism directed towards our Club because of its perceived association with the I.R.A.

An association rekindled by the recent display of banners at Celtic Park.

Having been unfairly accused of something myself, in the workplace, tell your friend to get his union rep involved, as other posters have been advising. I did, and the bully boy bosses fairly sh*t their pants. Case closed.

In injury time on Tuesday, section 111 was the only area of the stadium still full to capacity and still singing themselves hoarse. What an example to the rest of us. We don’t care if we win, lose or draw. Faithful through and through!

Stonewall penalty for Calvin Miller denied. Great game this.

  11. McDowellcelt god bless wee oscar on

Crackin wee game this under 16 match. Calvin miller looks a quality wee player.. No doubt he won’t get a look in with us and will rot in reserves the same way Paul George, atajic, and others are doin now. While we sign rubbish from Europe!..

Our youths have won their league this past 10 years or so but very rarely get a look in at first team level wile we watch boys like Gauld be hailed heroes.. Time to forget about puukki, mulgrew in midfield, ledley if he’s leaving, and give our youths a proper run in the team, let them develop and see what they can do.. We most likely have a few gaulds of our own if we give them a chance!

  12. Radio Shortbread playing Marching to Georgia just now.

    Hurrah Hurrah

Do we complain? No of course we don’t because we have far more uptop than thems and know that it is just another wee country ditty that they b@st@rdI$ed

  13. I wasn’t at the game on Tuesday (no ticket) and I missed the start of it on TV but I was told there was a message of support for the Phillipines emblazoned on the turf. is that not political?

We were all young and daft and sung worse than they have.

If the club is worried about the fine I am sure a bucket collection would cover it.

It was an interesting piece, and Kevin Rooney creates an interesting overview re tolerance etcetera, but he undermines his own thesis by his own conclusion. Does anyone on here believe that we, or anyone else for that matter, are, or should be, free to sing or chant whatever we, or they, want?

Currently we are not free to say/sing etc. what we want to. That is the law presently.

Should we be? There is a spectrum of Libertarian argument and some Libertarians would suggest we all should be able to express what we want when we want – no matter how offensive. Here’s an example of that in USA :

    http://www.godhatesfags.com

I’m not sure I would want the kind of society where people were able to say whatever they want without consequence. However, I have a strong objection to legislation that states that it’s not OK to sing offensive songs at football games, but it is OK to sing offensive songs during what is known as “the marching season” – which new covers at least 6 months of the year.
