Back to black for Celtic

592

19 years after last having money in the bank, all we needed was ‘Armageddon’ to allow Celtic to return to the black.

Despite a drop in income from domestic football turnover increased an incredible 47.7% to £75.82m thanks to participation in the Champions League, leaving a balance of £3.76m in the bank (after season ticket money arrived in) on 30 June 2013.

The profit for last season of £9.74m more than made up for the loss of £7.37m made when competing with others who were subsequently found to be unwilling (not just unable) to pay their bills.

This summer’s transfers were split between the financial year just reported and the current period, with a £9.66m investment in football personnel and £5.19m recouped from player disposal (clearly the Wanyama sale was post-year-end.

These figures are retrospective and would have read hollow if the club didn’t reach the Champions League again this season.  With that status achieved we are now in a remarkably strong position to continue to scout, recruit, develop talent and improve the playing squad.

More detailed analysis tomorrow.

All you need to know about the Co-op bank and Celtic.

My mum’s [God rest her soul] divvy number was 1669.

Funny the things that stick in the ole memory..

  2. would be of interest to extrapolate how much Celtic paid to the Treasury….anyway of finding out !

Seems to me it would be a pretty penny and great PR….thoughts ?

  3. A more than decent set of Annual Accounts and a sound financial foundation for the foreseeable future – hopefully 2014 figures read as good.

Will the ‘Profit’ be disbursed (how and where) or banked? Will a sum will be set aside for the ‘January Sales’ (if needed)?

Sure as fate predators will be sniffing around 2/3 of our current players – don’t want to see a repeat of this season’s CL pre-qualifier transfer market. If we need a player(s) then let’s get them bedded in during the Championship run-in.

Hopefully some expenditure on the ‘Triangle’ and enhancement of the ‘Match Day Experience’ will go ahead – longterm it will add to the income streams.

In terms of FFP we are doing it right – maybe some journalists (outwith Scotland) might run with the story. I won’t hold my breath!

To be honest I don’t think that these figures are great at all considering all the bluster from them being loaded. I expected to see far more cash in the bank than that. If I was them I would be wondering where all the money is going. They rant about our board when their own are just as bad.

The question everybody should be asking is, with all these profits will they be paying any corporation taxes ?

There is a loan of around £20m (from the Co-op Bank) due to be repaid in 2019. They do not seem to have paid much of it back since it was taken out in the early O’Neill years.

I’m still floating on the canal and for that I’m eternally grateful as there was a few times in the last few years I thought I was going to sink. I plan to weigh up anchor from my permanent moorings next year and constantly set sail for a couple of years up and doon the canal system hopefully not too far from any CSC doon here.

I don’t know much about the stock market and company statements saying that I do have a few shares in a pension investment from my time in Canada. Luckily for me they haven’t done too badly as I was only guessing when I picked the type of shares for my investment. I think there is no difference from the stock market and my local bookies, ya pay yer money ya take yer chances.

  7. champions league football, 75 million turnover, 10 million profit before 11 to 12 million swing (in Celtics favour) in transfer fees. would hazard a guess we actually have a lower wage than last year. worst case scenario is same again (turnover/ profit) next year without further recruitment or sales. everyone at the club should he thanked from top to bottom because they all played their part.

this season was the most difficult transitional period the club has had to face given the amount of players that left, both fringe and first team picks. we now have a settled group of players who will hopefully go from strength to strength over the next 2 or 3 years, by which time, we will have the cycles of buying and selling fine tuned.

I can see the value in that system and agree with the ethos of living within your means.

celtic have invested heavily to improve the stadium in the new family section, elevated disabled area, bars, improved lounges etc….and still walk away with 10 million profit. the question is; what’s the plan with the money? are we any closer to the triangle thing? museum? shop? bar? etc…

  8. BT – well we’ve had Om the worry monster home to look after that required pictures that most do with photos but they can at least be drawn. Whether at that age it creates a stigma I don’t know but its not a great starting point for kids IMO.

    Good Afternoon Timland.

All’s well with the finances then……..hardly surprising

when you charge £7 for a portion of chips and curry

    sauce,a coke, and a capri sun………normally I would

not touch the stadium catering, but had the daughter

with me on Saturday ……memo to PL, drop the prices,

    and sell more unit’s.

*too be perfectly fair to the club they’ll be on percentage of gross revenue and/or a minimum annual guarantee. Now considering how often the catering operates getting someone half decent in can be extremely difficult hence the high prices, personally I would take a packed lunch. When we take the grandweans tae the movies there candies and pop are bought in the dollar store

  11. Dontbrattbakkinanger on

Tontine Tim- they should let us hold tailgate parties like they do in the States. There’s plenty spare ground at CP.

The catering inside is pretty grim, unless you’re EDB/Old Tim/Malor Bhoy etc and you’re on the ole quails’ eggs.

  12. Stupid zombies have been robbed/pillaged by the last 3 chairman/owners and they want to analyze our accounts! lol!

McLeish obviously has lots of mates in the media – probably why he keeps getting jobs despite failure after failure. Reporter on Five Live just touted him for the Sunderland job on the basis that he took his Birmingham players canoeing in Austria!

We don’t exactly pay McDonald prices for what’s on offer to us. We probably have food available that might suit you more than on the concourse but at considerable cost.

In all seriousness the catering in the business class lounges is a joke.

The cost is very expensive aswell.

£10 for fish n Chips n frozen peas.

The value of the business class seats is diminishing as the years go bye.

I enjoy my creature comforts , but I also like good value for money.

I don’t believe I’m getting the best value at present .

    Expensive ST’s.

    Expensive beveridges.

    Expensive foods .

A shortgage of seating and tables.

I can get the betterfacilities at the price of an ordinary ST , and take my chances being one of the first 800 allowed in the Kerrydale suite for FREE , with membership of the affiliation of CSC.

Celtic really need to look at the benefits .

A free pie and programme , plus preference for away tickets is not much of an incentive for an additional£1200 per season .

  22. The catering at CP is both expensive and

    inedible……we should be encouraging fans

by dropping prices and raising the quality of

the food on offer……….there are lot’s of st

holder’s who never ever buy whats on sale.

I replied earlier saying your post was unusually negative towards the board and that if I had posted it I would have accused of having an anti board mineshafters view.

100% agree re lounges in north stand. Not anywhere near offering value for money..

That’s me, I’m a skint version of Tiny Tim, in that I like reasonable VFM and won’t pay over the odds for the poor fair on offer inside the ground.

I had a pint in the Kerrydale place ahead of Stan’s game. Not for me mate. Was glad to get back to the crap section you refer to.
