Being there

1087

I’m sure many of you will remember the home game against Dundee in April 2001. We needed a win to be able to secure the title the following week, at home, against St Mirren. After the game Martin O’Neill sounded irritated at the anxiety in the crowd, oblivious to the fact that the loss of a late goal would have denied many of us the opportunity to be there when the title was won.

If you’ve been there for the highs (Aberdeen) and lows (Kilmarnock) of the league season you’ve earned a ticket to the party. Let’s hope the SPL deliver a home game next, as reported.

Apologies for the extended downtime yesterday. Plans are afoot for five new servers to load-balance CQN (which sounds a lot right now but we’ve had similar thoughts before).

Let the record show that the death of Margaret Thatcher brought CQN down longer than when Rangers did the decent thing. Was hearing the news a ‘JFK moment’? I was in the wee room at the time, a treat for all the senses, so I’m not sure how my memory will handle the situation…. mostly audio.

Quite so ie I agree with your assessment re improvement. Also, there must be a place for Charlie Mugrew`s left foot 0:-)

  2. What a big let down the split fixtures have turned out to be. Celtic v Motherwell, top v 2nd would have been the ideal 1st game but instead Motherwell play on Friday and we play on Sunday totally farcial only in SPL.

We also somehow manage to play the team in 2nd place three times away!

We must get rid of this awful split nonsense.

  3. On the spat between Chuck and Sally re Durrant & MCDowall

With cash running out and the losses greater than 1m/month due to a revenue dry up Chuck is doing what any one else would do. He is looking at all the costs and trying to shrink the envelope for each dept. So Sallys football department have been given a go get to half their costs. Chuck does not care what that means, just do it. About 3 years ago the ibrox club had 5 physios. One of them has now set up his own business operating in Bannatyne Steps and Kirkintilloch Leisure Centre and he has a full diary each week. He also did Charlton and some other teams in the past.

The sense of entitlement that the cardigan and Sally have is unbeliievable. They have no concept of cost and value for money. Chuck used the radio interview to get rid of Sandaza and rumours of dodgy deals to get rid of Neil Murray. Chuck won’t get away with these targeted sackings in the football dept any longer. So Sally has been given a cost envelope to manage the football dept within. He can fire Durrant and McDowall or physios or walk himself , but he will need to meet the new budget or Chuck will take the machete himself.

The staff at MP are trying hard to get out…not easy when many are on the gravy train for he role they do.

An inexperienced manager like Sally will lose the plot with Chuck on the budget tightening

I have always hated the Blazing Saddles sketch with Mongo.

I don’t know the motive for the writers calling the mentally challenged brute Mongo , but it doesn’t take a great stretch of imagination to guess the connection.

My mother was forever taking people to task for calling us Fenians, taigs, and papers.

But there was nothing that upset her more than the Mongo or Mungo term.

They were both used in and around my hometown of Buckhaven and Fife.

I have no problem in disclosing that both words scarred my childhood.

  16. Ah Well! One consolation of the anti-climactic split fixtures will be that, if Well fail to win in Dundee on the Friday, we can have a league title party on the Sunday with trophy presented and do not need to wait until the 11th May, our next and last home fixture.

    “Refreshing”

I’ve never met a Hun that supported her and I know tons of them. In the area I come from, where people worked in the pits, steelworks and shipyards – Thatcher is despised by everyone.

I know some Huns on websites claim she is the bees-knees, but I’m not sure any open support for her will go down well at Ibrox to be honest – especially as they will be looking to lash out at the weekend.

The following is a direct transcript from Peter Smith’s interview with

    Charles Green.

PS: Have you ever misled the supporters by telling them what they want

    to hear?

    CG: Never

    PS: Never?

    CG: Never

PS: You are clear about that?

    CG: Yes

PS: What about when you said Manchester United were in favour of

Rangers moving to the Premiership? They’ve clearly stated they were

    against it.

    CG: The spokesman did.

PS: So you told Rangers fans Man Utd were supportive of Rangers moving

to the English Premiership. Manchester United say they are opposed to

    it.

CG: So Sir Alex Ferguson wouldn’t like to see Rangers in his league? Who

is Manchester United? You define Manchester United.

PS: Who at Manchester United told you that you were wanted in the

    Premiership?

CG: I’ve had discussions with a number of clubs.

PS: Who at Manchester United told you that you were wanted in the

    Premiership?

CG: Well… why do we want to know that?

PS: I think there is evidence here that has been contradicted by

    Manchester United.

CG: It’s been contradicted by a spokesperson from Manchester United.

PS: So is that spokesman not speaking for the club?

CG: My lawyers, who are advising on Rangers going into the UK, have

been speaking to a number of clubs, representatives of clubs, to owners

    of clubs.

I am absolutely very, very clear, from the discussions I’ve had with

various people who are speaking to football clubs who would welcome

Rangers to play in the English football league.

PS: Can you tell us which clubs?

CG: No. I don’t want to prejudice this club’s chance of playing in England

    by disclosing stuff prematurely.

PS: What about when Imran Ahmad told Rangers supporters talks with

the Dallas Cowboys were going well?

CG: Well they are. I’ve got an email now if you want to read it after this

    interview from Dallas Cowboys.

PS: The Dallas Cowboys have previously told us there were no such talks.

CG: I don’t care, Peter, what they’ve said. I’ve just told you categorically,

in front of the camera, when this interview finishes, I will show you an

email where we are invited to go to Dallas Cowboys. The email came in

    three days ago.

So either believe me or not. If you don’t believe me, you’re entitled. But

I’ll show you and then I want you, separately, to apologise on camera to

say you were wrong about Dallas Cowboys, OK?

So far, STV has not been shown the email from the Dallas Cowboys.
