Being there

1087

I’m sure many of you will remember the home game against Dundee in April 2001. We needed a win to be able to secure the title the following week, at home, against St Mirren. After the game Martin O’Neill sounded irritated at the anxiety in the crowd, oblivious to the fact that the loss of a late goal would have denied many of us the opportunity to be there when the title was won.

If you’ve been there for the highs (Aberdeen) and lows (Kilmarnock) of the league season you’ve earned a ticket to the party. Let’s hope the SPL deliver a home game next, as reported.

Apologies for the extended downtime yesterday. Plans are afoot for five new servers to load-balance CQN (which sounds a lot right now but we’ve had similar thoughts before).

Let the record show that the death of Margaret Thatcher brought CQN down longer than when Rangers did the decent thing. Was hearing the news a ‘JFK moment’? I was in the wee room at the time, a treat for all the senses, so I’m not sure how my memory will handle the situation…. mostly audio.

  1. I think there is an article pending. I reckon Paul67 will answer some of the questions being put out at the moment. This looks like being a massive week for Scottish football.

James Traynor must have enough material for a book. Wonder if he will print it?

    Craig Thomson

Malaga’s Chief Executive , Vincente Cassado has said ——

” Malaga FC will file an official complaint to UEFA re Craig Thomson and his assistants . .It is a disgrace that in the quarter finals of the Champions League , the Referee is not of the level that the players and fans deserve ”

Meanwhile – Malaga winger – Joaquin —– has said —-

” We suspect Platini and everybody else at UEFA wanted us out It’s much easier to do this to Malaga than Real Madrid ”

Memorable viewing at the end of the game —— a Malaga player absolutely berated Thomson whilst Thomson stood and stared into space like a glaikit twerp.

Over recent seasons we’ve had lots of yellow cards for leaving the field of play to celebrate scoring a goal . The malaga player who scored their second ran way off the field to the fans

but our scottish ref kept his card in pocket ??

An excellent point was it not Thompson who booked Commons at Tynecastle when he scored and went to the fans, and shrugged his shoulders as if to say I have to its the rules.

Hard to believe that Ticketus didn’t know about Craig Whyte. All they had to do was Google the man’s name.

I’m sure it was a 2nd yellow and a red card.

JVoH got the same at ICT one season.

    I’m paranoid though.

  9. Thompson and his officials were no worse – or better – than that shower who reffed our home game (or planned elimination) against Juve.

Just took a wee break tae fan the flames

Tae shovel the coal, tae note yer names

    Prostrate here twiddling ma thumbs

Shoogling ma teeth and sookin ma gums

Listenin tae all that laughter and glee

Revenge is sweet jist wait and see

So wait until dark, nae moon in the sky

When sleep won’t come as hard as ye try

Is that a shadow or maybe a ghost

Wan word frae me an’ you’re burnt toast

Don’t close your eyes, keep staring wide

The reaper waits, nae place tae hide

Wan hellish kiss, ah’ll take yer soul

An send ye down tae Hades’ hole

    Then evil laughter will resound

As from the depths I’ll fly unbound

Spitting blood at the head of my pack

  12. Thatcher’s 1981 Regulation 909 gave education authorities the right to sell school land that they considered surplus to their requirements.

Over the next decade an estimated 5,000 playing fields were sold, many converted to housing developments, supermarkets or car parks.

When a prolonged industrial dispute between government and teaching unions, centred on pay and conditions, led to thousands of teachers refusing to continue providing unpaid after-school sports lessons, pupils’ hours of sports fell still further.

Thatcher’s supporters would blame instead a decline in competitive sports. Other, wider forces were also at work – the rise of computer gaming, a society-wide increase in sedentary lifestyles.

Whatever the cause, a survey by the Secondary Heads Association showed that the proportion of pupils under 14 spending less than two hours a week in physical education rose from 38% to 71% between 1987 and 1990.

By the end of the Conservative hegemony in 1997, that figure had crept above 75%.

  13. Stuart Dougal predictably wheeled out on SSN to tell all and sundry Scottish MIBs are marvellous.

  14. I think that we should let Gilmour know that whatever deal he has cooked up with green had better be a good one. Better than the gate money he gets from visiting Tic fans as he may not be able to count on that next season.

SFA charges Rangers chief Charles Green over alleged racist comments

    10 April 2013 2.09pm.

Rangers chief executive Charles Green faces a Scottish Football Association charge over alleged racist comments, the SFA has confirmed.

The Yorkshire man is charged with breaking Disciplinary Rule 66 and Disciplinary Rule

71 which guard against comments which bring the came into disrepute and those which are not in the “best interests” of the SFA.

Green was criticised by campaign group Show Racisim the Red Card this week after he was quoted in a newspaper report referring to former Ibrox director, Imran Ahmad, as his “little P**i friend”.

Green has been given until Wednesday, April 17, to respond to the SFA’s Notice of Complaint.
