Being there

1087

I’m sure many of you will remember the home game against Dundee in April 2001. We needed a win to be able to secure the title the following week, at home, against St Mirren. After the game Martin O’Neill sounded irritated at the anxiety in the crowd, oblivious to the fact that the loss of a late goal would have denied many of us the opportunity to be there when the title was won.

If you’ve been there for the highs (Aberdeen) and lows (Kilmarnock) of the league season you’ve earned a ticket to the party. Let’s hope the SPL deliver a home game next, as reported.

Apologies for the extended downtime yesterday. Plans are afoot for five new servers to load-balance CQN (which sounds a lot right now but we’ve had similar thoughts before).

Let the record show that the death of Margaret Thatcher brought CQN down longer than when Rangers did the decent thing. Was hearing the news a ‘JFK moment’? I was in the wee room at the time, a treat for all the senses, so I’m not sure how my memory will handle the situation…. mostly audio.

    Just read the Dortmund v Malaga match report in the ‘Gazzetta’ – as you probably have.

    ‘Disastrous’ refereeing by Thomson and his assistants;

    Assistants (linesmen) just as bad as Thomshun;

    Goal-line assistants like ‘statues’;

    Thomson awarded 3 / 10 for his (totally inept) ‘performance’ – even worse than Collum in the Fenerbahce v Lazio game in the EL last week!

    I find it hard to accept that even though John Brown was claiming that Charles Green did not own the deeds to then bigotdome that Ally McCoist claimed at the weekend it was all news to him.

    Really?

    You would wonder how someone like John Brown who was not connected to the club in anyway knew more that the manager (and apparent saviour)of sevco 5088

    It seems like only yesterday that the cheeky chappie stood in front of the TV cameras and claimed in a corporal Schultz manner “I know nothing”.

    One wonders if this is really an accurate statement and how long did Ally and (Mr) Smith know all about what was happening

    Secondly when walter and his real billionaire pal from weirs tried to buy sevco/sevco5088 from Charles Green it became apparent to me (and I suspect to walter and his pl) that Green didn’t own the club to sell it in the first place.

    How long has Fat Sally known that

    a) Green did not have outright control

    b) Green was whytes frontman

  9. How ironic would it be if Charles Green has to transfer Ibrox and Murray Park back to Craigie boy who in turn has to pay Ticketus £17.5m. CW would might be forced to transfer the assets to Ticketus to settle the £17.5m so Ticketus end up owning Ibrox and MP . Ticketus could then either charge a rent for ever more to who ever owns the ‘club’ who are playing there or alternatively they could sell.

    No one in their right mind would pay Ticketus £50m to operate as a football club but they might if they wanted to build flats. If only!

    I don’t think it matters to them who owns it in the interim,as long as they are still playing and not been Third Lanarked.

    If the patient is on life-support,that’s fine by them-while they bide their time to get it back after letting the suckers take the fall and the debts have disappeared.

    Problem for them is,historically,we are the experts at the long game-they are looking to have ballsed theirs up.

    I hope!!!!!!!!

  11. If Craigy Bhoy has been ordered to pay squillions of quid to Ticketus by the London courts and if he can still, theoretically, lay claim to the deeds of Ibrox, the car park etc isn’t it plausible that the English courts will sieze his assets, including the deeds to the home of a dead football club, and sell the aformentioned properties to pay off his debts thereby scuppering any chance of anyone else picking up the bones of RFC on the cheap?

    Is this too simplistic a scenario?

    The firm, which provided nearly £27m to help the businessman purchase Rangers Football Club two years ago, said it had also been awarded interest and costs.

    The former chairman of Rangers has until 26 April to lodge an appeal.

  25. I guess the Ticketus ruling explains why CW has held on to the Sevco 5088 issue until now. All parties knew it was potentially dodgy and therefore neither wanted to see it settled in the courts. Seems like the Ticketus business has forced CW’s hand, now chuckles is throwing down the gauntlet, just how much dirty laundry do you want aired in public?

    However it seems CW has now got nothing to lose.

    Going back to the asset sale last year, I was always convinced that a sale of the assets was subject to a sole and exclusive bid from Sevco 5008. The administrators were seeking a CVA offer, not an offer for the sale of the assets. In this respect all other bidders (plus any other parties who may not have been interested in a CVA deal but would have been interested in the asset sale) were placed at a distinct disadvantage, in that they weren’t given the opportunity to bid for the assets alone.

    Sevco 5088 simply chose to add the asset sale as an option to their bid as a “variant bid” without any prompt from the administrators. When the CVA was rejected, given that this was the core aspect of the requested proposal and no variant bids were defined or requested, the entire bid should have been rejected.

  26. FORMER Rangers owner Craig Whyte is facing bankruptcy after losing a court battle with Ticketus over a £17.7 million dispute.

    • Craig Whyte loses legal battle over £17.7m Ticketus deal struck in 2011

    • High court judge rules Whyte lied to Ticketus in order to secure deal

    • Ticketus ‘unaware’ of Whyte’s seven-year directorship ban

    Whyte has been ordered to pay the sum back to Ticketus after a High Court judge in London ruled in favour of the company, who were suing Whyte for luring them into a deal on false pretenses.

    The Monaco-based businessman must also pay an additional £700,000 in interest and legal costs after his bid to counter-sue the company failed.

    The dispute centres on the contract agreed between Ticketus and Whyte, the latter of whom had agreed to sell three years’ worth of season ticket sales to the company for £25 million, some of which he used to fund his takeover of the Ibrox club in May 2011.

    He spent a further £18 million paying off legacy debt to Lloyds TSB, owed since Sir David’s Murray’s stewardship of Rangers.

    Ticketus are understood to have sued Whyte because they were unaware of his seven-year directorship ban. A court source told The Sun that Ticketus would never have agreed to a deal if they had been aware of Whyte’s disqualification. The company had hoped to make a £7 million profit from the season ticket sales.

    Sports finance expert Dr Chris Brady told the Sun: “Basically he’s got to pay the money back – if he hasn’t got it then he’s effectively bankrupt.

    “They will try and acquire his assets. But any assets that are held abroad would be out of reach – they wouldn’t be able to get a hold of that.”

    Whyte’s seven-year company directorship ban ended in 2007, but he will never set foot in Scottish football again after the SFA handed him a life ban and a £200,000 fine, which the league body are pursuing the Motherwell-businessman for through the courts.

    Craig Whyte relinquished control of the club to Charles Green after Rangers were liquidated last year.
