Being there

1087

I’m sure many of you will remember the home game against Dundee in April 2001. We needed a win to be able to secure the title the following week, at home, against St Mirren. After the game Martin O’Neill sounded irritated at the anxiety in the crowd, oblivious to the fact that the loss of a late goal would have denied many of us the opportunity to be there when the title was won.

If you’ve been there for the highs (Aberdeen) and lows (Kilmarnock) of the league season you’ve earned a ticket to the party. Let’s hope the SPL deliver a home game next, as reported.

Apologies for the extended downtime yesterday. Plans are afoot for five new servers to load-balance CQN (which sounds a lot right now but we’ve had similar thoughts before).

Let the record show that the death of Margaret Thatcher brought CQN down longer than when Rangers did the decent thing. Was hearing the news a ‘JFK moment’? I was in the wee room at the time, a treat for all the senses, so I’m not sure how my memory will handle the situation…. mostly audio.

As long as Campbell and Longmuir are in charge Sevco will survive.

I am fizzing no one has called them out, and being a Celtic fan I think our own directors should be calling a vote of no confidence in the SFA. It’s fine saying ‘stay back don’t get involved’ but they ARE getting through this, granted one or two blips but small step by small step they are moving forwards.

I hope and pray I am naive and our board do know what they are doing!

  2. On the subject of Green lies does anyone know the identity of the charity that benfited from the monies that Sevco got from the boycotted Scottish cup tie at Tannadice?

    I haven’t read it anywhere?

Something is going on with the media onslaught………interesting

  4. MWD: my reference was (mostly) to do with the cabal running the beautiful game here in Scotland.

I suspect that Judges and QC’s wouldn’t be seen dead in the same lodge (or, for that matter, golf club) as hoi polloi like Ogilvie, Longmuir, et al.

There may well be bonds of friendship between the various strands of the rolled-up trouser-leg fraternity (as well as ‘interest’ at various high levels of the police, justiciary, civil service and the like), but my suspicion is that the ‘elite’ look down their noses at the types running football (cf. the shocking report of LNS and his learned pals, the tone and content of which smacked of taking the pash out of their more lowly brethren) …

  5. Well done to the Young(er) Hoops in Moscow.

Yet another prestigious international tournament that the club has been invited to.

Honours even for Under-17s in Moscow

By: Laura Brannan on 09 Apr, 2013 18:26

LIAM Henderson´s second-half strike drew his Under-17 Celtic side level with Spartak Moscow in Russia to earn a 1-1 draw and a share of the points with the tournament hosts.

The young Hoops had gone a goal behind against the run of play and were dealt another blow when they were denied a stone wall penalty. Paul McMullan was fouled inside the box but it was judged to have happened outside of the penalty area.

Celtic continued to battle against a good Spartak Moscow side, though, and their hard work paid off 10 minutes from the end. McMullan played the ball through to Henderson who slotted home the equaliser from 12-yards out.

The teenagers fought for a winner until the death but Head of the Professional Academy, Tommy McIntyre, was pleased with the result.

He exclusively told the official website: “It was probably a fair result on the basis of how the game went. We could have won it but then Jordan Hart had some good saves at the end.

“We did really well against a top team with a mixture of U16s and U17s. It was a big ask for some of the younger ones but I thought they equipped themselves well.

“We dominated the second-half after going a goal behind inside just four minutes – which is unusual for us. We did really well to battle back, and the penalty shout was at least a yard inside the box but the referee waved play on.

“We dominated the second-half for long periods. It was great movement for the goal which was well deserved.

“The boys are delighted. They know they can play better but they were playing the hosts who are a strong team. Coming off the back of a long journey yesterday I couldn´t have asked for more. It sets them up well for the game against Barcelona tomorrow.”

The futures bright – it’s GREEN AND WHITE!

  6. To sum up – David Murray was a god but then he got it wrong so Craig Whyte saved them. But then Craig Wnyte got found out so Charles Green “saved” them. Now Green is getting found out … who rides to the rescue this time?

  7. Over recent seasons we’ve had lots of yellow cards for leaving the field of play to celebrate scoring a goal . The malaga player who scored their second ran way off the field to the fans

but our scottish ref kept his card in pocket ??

  9. Am I right in saying the Scottish Officials are being accused of racism? lol!

Malaga owner Sheikh Abdullah Al-Thani called for Uefa to investigate and claimed his side’s dramatic Champions League defeat at Dortmund was “an injustice and racism”.

He said on Twitter: “I’m sorry to go out this way, injustice and racism.”

Al-Thani, of the Qatari Royal Family, was named owner of Malaga in June 2010 after the 53-year-old bought the Spanish club.

A series of off-the-field financial problems mean Malaga are banned from European competition for one campaign when they next qualify.

Al-Thani added: “This is not football, but racism and clear of all.

“I hope to open a thorough investigation [by] Uefa regarding the Spanish club [going] out in this way.”

    Borussia Dortmund 3 —— Malaga 2. ,

Officiated by Craig Thomson and some other Scottish numpties.

    Utterly inept.

Dortmund should have been down to ten men,

    Malaga’s second goal was offside.

Dortmund’s winner was offside twice —- firstly 4 players were offside and secondly, only one .

    Mistake after mistake after mistake,

Dortmund allowed to kick lumps out of Malaga.

Absolutely slated by the Italian fitba media——- words like ” disastrous ” ” shameful ” and ” absolutely incompetent ” used to describe Thomson and Co..

Sicilian radio pundit said this ————–

” The Officiating was inexplicable . . Hard to believe that so called top officials can’t see 4 players standing offside . . I thought that the guy who refereed Fenerbahce /Lazio[ Collum ] was awful , but, believe me, this one was even worse . I can’t understand why incompetent Officials from a very poor league are being given big European games “.

Heard Malaga’s owner on the radio this morning ——-opining that Thomson and Co were cheats and that UEFA had got the result they wanted.

  11. Enjoyed the Scotland Tonight prog last night where the young Peter-guy ripped into Chuckles. But, in the discussion afterwards, Tom English (the Irish sports writer for the Scotsman!?) was asked about the potential impact for The Rangers IF Agent Whyte was involved. English then prattled on for a minute or two without saying much. It’s my understanding that Whyte is banned sine die from holding any post in Scottish football, a sentence passed on Oor Agent by the SFA despite Whyte not being present at his hearing. Therefore if Whyte is involved in any connection to Rangers, their assets, Iboaks, Murray-mint park, etc. surely even the SFA would have to take draconian action. Am I missing something?

  13. I’m very suspicious of the MSM suddenly realising their job is to investigate and report facts, rather than acting as PR consultants for corrupt organisations.

Why after all this time promoting the myth of “same club”, should the leopard change it ‘s spots and turn on Challs?

Young informing us that Sally knows things confirms 2 things we knew. 1. Young is….how you shay in Dutch …..an ershlikar , paid through our licence fee to promote the message of his beloved cwub. 2. Sally is a sleekit untrustworthy person who will do and say anything to support ra peeple.

I suspect Challs has moved them up a division and the blue hawks will move in to take over the corpse with Fasttracking becoming pushed all the more.

  15. Looking at the last five fixtures, just about every match is for revenge.

In the previous fixtures only one point from home games against ICT and St Johnstone and only one point from Motherwell, Ross County and Dundee United away.

All of Celtic’s last five fictures will probably be live on TV. If there are players who crave a move away from Celtic Park I would expect them to play out of their skin in these matches.

Get the cash on Hooper to bag more than a few goals.

So do I! They have been a long time coming.

Celtic will drop points. It is inevitable. Once the league is secured players will be rested and the youngsters and players needing games to get a medal will be given a run.

Still a few tough games to come especially at grounds where we have struggled in the past and against teams who still have Europe to play for.

  18. Any updates on the rumour that big Vic will sign a contract extension. I wouldn’t have a problem in letting FF and Hooper leave for a decent cash return. IMO Vic is the guy to build a team around.

Haven’t heard those rumours myself but would be delighted if it were true.

I suspect big Victor will be lining up in the Man Utd team next season. Exactly the player they need in that midfield right now and SAF will be able to nurture him and get him to play the way he wants. The price will suit Man Utd too. I reckon if he signed it would be with a clause that if a certain club came in for him or a certain fee was offered for him he would be off.

Would love him to sign on for another couple of years though.

    LB

  22. I see McCoist is talking about too much cost cutting at his new club. The arrogance is staggering – we should be allowed to spend whatever we want, build up whatever debts we want. Didn’t they try that before?

He is also admitting that his new club is unable to cope with the giants of the Scottish game it faces in the lower leagues without a budget that is hundreds of times what these clubs, with their collections of part time players, have.

  23. oglach – while I agree with you about building a team around him, I suspect that any new contract signed by Vic will be to introduce a min fee release. As it stands we can probably turn down any offers we receive. This is just a way of fixing a fee that’s mutually beneficial to the club and the player.
