Best to Ledley, Goals Griffiths and Perpetual Movement Stefan

567

I read some discourse heading in the direction of Joe Ledley last night, which I can’t quite figure.  Joe had initially seemed keen to sign the contract which had been in his hands for several months.  Celtic wanted to get the deal done but it became clear this week that it wasn’t going to happen, and that Joe would leave under freedom of contract in the summer, if not this week.

This is the player’s absolute right.  He committed fully to the cause until full time on Wednesday, and when Celtic decided to accept a bid reportedly close to £1m, rather than let him run down his contract – most probably from the stand, he agreed to join Crystal Palace, who were almost certainly not top of his desired destinations.  Although he clearly pushed Palace all the way on the contract.

Joe could have just as easily free-wheeled for four months while continuing to collect his wages and shopping around for a new club, which would have suited him far more than Celtic.

Best wishes to Joe, I’m sure he’ll keep Palace up this season.

A formal welcome to Celtic to Leigh Griffiths.  His interview on Celtic TV last night betrayed an irresistible focus.  ‘What will you bring to Celtic?’  ‘Goals’.  That’s what it’s all about Leigh, score goals, lots of them.  Then score some more.

I was pleased Stefan Johansen got some game-time on Wednesday after 45 minutes for the youths on Tuesday; really hope we see him tomorrow.  Did you notice his movement on Wednesday?  Every time he passed the ball he sprinted into space.  Hope he gets a start tomorrow but most of all, let’s break a record.

Tom in Oz- I hope you get a chance to spend precious time with your wee brother. Take care of yourself.

Finally, shame on the Aberdeen fans who abused our manager today. I will expect to hear condemnation of this from people associated with that club, who have many decent fans sharing space with today’s thugs.

Just been blethering with BMCUWP and PeteC who are carousing in some dingy pub with no bog paper near Waterloo Station. They didn’t know of this afternoon’s events.

Some of the stuff on the blog tonight relating to the vote for or against independence would need more than Andrex to shift it.

Doesn’t surprise me that events took place in that main stand at Tynecastle. Sat there a few times and have no doubt the stewards would turn their usual blind eye. Nor am I surprised that Aberdeen fans were involved. Both they and the Hibs have good folk supporting them but have carried platoons of violent louts for decades.

Just read this from the irrepressible James Forrest on Facebook, hope he doesn’t mind me posting on here

Reading a lot of comments on Facebook tonight decrying the nation of Scotland for what’s happened to Neil Lennon at Tynecastle today.

I want to caution against that kind of talk. This is not about Scotland, not about our country, not about the vast majority of people who live here.

This is about a small sub-sect of our country, a small subsect of humanity if I’m being blunt, that doesn’t define itself by football club or nationality, but simply, purely, utterly by hate. This wasn’t Hearts fans, this was Aberdeen supporters, or people who purport to be Aberdeen supporters … in truth, they’re not really football fans at all, just people who adopt slogans and colours to feel part of something.

They are part of nothing. Certainly not society.

These people do not define what their clubs are any more than they define what our country is. They are not a symbol of this nations “sick disease”, as I read earlier, but their own, and to condemn a whole nation for them is just wrong.

Yet even if it were true that this country is defined by these people, why would that necessitate our turning away, writing this land of ours off? To say that this is the face of an indepenedent Scotland is to give bigots and halfwits more credit than they deserve, and to abandon the field to them without as much as a fight.

I think this country is more tolerent and clear headed than that. I think they are a minority, a stupid, mindless, brainless minority at that, and that we’d soon have them on the run. They would hold no badge of office, they would weild no genuine power.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again; if you believe this country is institutionally anti-Irish, anti-Catholic, that it’s people are either indoctrinated to be this way or simply succeptable to these kind of views then the BEST thing you can do is vote for independence and strip them of the machinary of their beliefs.

The union. The crown. The monarchy. The lodge.

All these things are tied up in the identity of “Britishness”, in the Union Jack, and when you strip that idenity away they have no intellectual or spiritual grounding at all.

I give Scotland more credit than that. I have more optimism than that.

The treatment Lennon recieves at times is despicable, and it is a stain our country that he is the target of such hate. Whats more, it is an even greater stain on this country that people like Graham Speirs, people who should know better and are in a position to really make a difference, are willing to blame this man for the actions of the detestable few. That makes us look backward, that makes us look ignorant, that makes us truly look like a bigoted little backwater.

But he doesn’t speak for the majority any more than the mindless morons who did this today. And neither do the people who want to lay this at the door of a whole nation. It is not the fault of Scotland as a whole.

Put the blame where it belongs. On people without a brain in their heads, who hate Neil Lennon for reasons they themselves can barely understand.

They are to be pitied as much as anything else.

But only after they are condemned, caught and punished for being the wretched specimens of humanity that they are.

We have a major shareholder who sets financial targets for a CEO and we also have a Chairman who is nothing more than a figurehead. If the club had a proper chairman, then we as a support would expect to see that person come out and make a statement condemning today’s abuse and also supporting our football manager.

It should be the main item on the Scottish news tonight, but it won’t be unless Celtic make a strongly worded statement….don’t hold your breath waiting!

Another shameful episode at Tynecastle, Neil holds up a mirror to Scottish society.

A strong response is required but not just from our club.

Aberdeen need to issue a statement condemning what has happened and ban the culprits.

Hearts need to answer the charge that their stadium is unsafe to visit.

Police Scotland will send a substantial bill for their services today and should be asked what they actually do for the money.

Scottish football must accept it has a problem throughout the game before things will get any better.

Scottish society must accept it has a problem before this cancer is eradicated.

Will FOCUS be conducting dawn raids in the Aberdeen area soon?

Roll of Honour Download Campaign to be launched 8th February

Fans Against Criminalisation are delighted to announce plans to release the single ‘’Roll of Honour’’ in association with The Irish Brigade for the duration of the week beginning on 8th of February. This single will be available for download on iTunes. We would like to thank the band for kindly allowing us to use their song to help aid our campaign against the criminalisation of football supporters and the suppression of political expression.

Download the Roll of Honour any time in the week 8 -15 February inclusive and let’s get it into the UK Top 40 Singles Charts and embarrass the hypocrites who seek to criminalise us.

This particular song is a ballad about civil resistance and a struggle for basic human rights and it has been a favourite of the Celtic support for over a decade. Shamefully, the SNP’s Offensive Behaviour at Football and Threatening Communications (Scotland) Act has resulted in the song becoming a target for Police Scotland and numerous arrests have been made as a result. From its outset FAC has sought to oppose this discriminatory piece of legislation and to defend the rights of football supporter’s which have been continually eroded since the Act’s introduction.

We call on the Celtic family from all corners of the globe to support this campaign by downloading the single to help raise funds to aid the legal costs of those whose lives are being torn apart by this disgracefully illiberal law and to help further publicise the hypocrisy inherent within the government’s position.

They hate Neil for 2 reasons :

1 – he is an unrepentant Fenian from the occupied 6 counties

2 – because he is from said 6 counties they know they can’t scare him – believe me Neil was brought up in an environment were there was a regular risk to your life and armed men roamed the streets – these clowns don’t scare him – quite the opposite – he terrifies them

Neil braved & stood up to the scum at Windsor – Scotland is a cake walk – loyalists with no balls most of them would be terrified of a trip to Belfast or Lurgan

  13. Been to a few sheep games to watch Celtic and them against the oldco, was always surprised how vociferous their fans were against the Huns, they also hate us just the same. In fact sitting in the top of the dick Donald stand I once had to ensure my crucifix never showed. But I have to say I am surprised at the Lennon abuse as generally there is little bigotry here, a wee bit of Masonic shit in companies etc, but day to day heed haw. They just have a big chip on their shoulder. Am pretty disgusted at what happened to Lenny to day and will not go in the dung heap again

Celtic have a duty of care to all it’s employees, NFL was on

  15. Future generations of Scots will recoil at the treatment which Neil Lennon has had to endure.

I must challenge the notion from some posters that England is somehow free from such intolerance. What nonsense. England is a fine country but it also has its own targets to condemn. All countries have these issues.

The most vile comments about Catholics can usually be found in ‘The Guardian’ newspaper. Have a look at what their readers and writers say about Catholics.

Big nan that’s an incredible point regarding RCs in jail. Do you have more material on this?

    ……………………………………..

Its all there in the link I gave you.

I didn’t blaze a trail on this the person who first raised it was Pauline McNeill (real name Cahill but she wouldn’t get elected with that name) in 2002? and the Justice Minister, Jim Wallace promised to investigate it but never did. So I took it on.

John Wilson (who seems to get very agitated at the very mention of RC) said that Muslims were also 2x more likely than their Protestant peers so I asked that the name be changed to RCs and Muslims but it never was.

PF Ayr although we know FoCUS was a House initiative to prove he could handle a national unit the credit for it goes to Celtic Ranger and the football authorities. It is on the record that it was their idea!

Re Irish surnames no surprise they are plentiful in court and few in positions of power.
