Bigger questions loom than reconstruction

1092

We now know that Craig Whyte met Neil Doncaster and Ralph Topping, directors of the SPL, in London in October 2011 and informed them of the likelihood that Rangers would go into liquidation.  Whyte’s plan, to start a Newco and have it parachuted into top flight football was only taken seriously as a result of these three having a head start on everyone else and doing some preparatory work.

Charles Green has no such plans.  If he loses Ibrox, becomes embroiled in IPO-related troubles or fails to bridge the gap between money-in and money-out, an unplanned liquidation could follow with a potentially protracted period where physical assets are moribund and playing assets and other staff are released.

The SPL and SFL would do well to consider ‘what next?’ when they hold separate meetings next week.  The century-old ways are gone, things will never be the same again.

I’m really pleased the aforementioned Charlie issued an apology for his offending comments, even if he did so under duress from the SFA.  This kind of rhetoric has taken control within football in some European countries.  Once the door is open it is hard to close it again.

So, there is a very good chance that Celtic managed to get out of a champions league group which contained the eventual winners of both the Champions League and the Europa League.

    +++++

Aye, but could we do it on a cold Tuesday night up in Elgin?

Apart from the language Germans and Swiss are very different, the German people I have met here are generally more open, funny and friendly than the Swiss, The Swiss are very private people to the extent where they come across as stand-offish, they are very kind people but don’t expect any invitations to dinner.

If your happy being culturally similar to Manchester and Liverpool I’m surprised I would say we’re very different..

Basel had a German coach for a few years and he instilled this worked ethic in his team, they are a decent team to watch I enjoyed the Euro games this year…

  3. Don’t you guys who are getting up early in the morning, just wish, you were retired like me? The best job I have ever had. No disrespect guys, I worked for 51 yrs, I feel I have the privilege to say that. In my 51 yrs employed, I had 3 months unemployed and in my latter years, never missed a shift in 17 yrs, including the worst winter on record, 2 yrs ago. I’m dead proud of that.

Hamiltontim @22:16 accuses me of ” .. the need to ‘investigate’ Celtic supporters after speeches they make about Celtic supporters to Celtic supporters.”

I’ll question anything. Especially anyone who is asking for my support. You reveal yourself when you question the efficacy of me exercising my rights.

Are you seriously suggesting that because someone declares themselves a Celtic supporter then they are beyond reproach?

Surely anyone who has read just a few pages of CQN must realise that shady Celts are everywhere.

It was for rubbish like this I decided to check out McCann and Findlay

“welcome along to an absolutely jam-packed George Square. … today, with thousands of people stretching as far as the eye can see”

    ———

No I don’t believe that simply because an individual declares themselves as a Celtic supporter they are beyond reproach.

    That’s why I’m questioning you.

Yep I’m acutely aware of the shady characters who populate these pages, I’ve witnessed it for several years.

    That’s why I’m questioning you.

The majority of what was espoused by the 3 speakers on Saturday was largely reflective of what the Celtic support feels.

I find it strange that you subsequently ‘investigate’ their backgrounds.

  7. corkcelt @23:08 lighten up.

My comment was in reponse to someone who thinks I have a problem because I doubted someone who calims allegiance to Celtic.

CQN is built on questioning and contributing each other.

  9. HT I read the speeches and then checked these people out.

Any idea why they only published their own 2 speeches?

I can think of two reasons.

    Vanity.

    Or.

The other speaker didn’t trust them to reproduce his speech faithfully.

“You know what the fellow said – in Italy, for thirty years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland, they had brotherly love, they had five hundred years of democracy and peace – and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock.”

  13. ntassoolla

Perhaps the speakers published their own speeches as they thought the other speakers would publish their own. They all have a platform.

I dont think that is complicated.

    starry plough,

As similarities go I think Glasgow and its people have more in common with Liv,Man than Edinburgh. Sure there are differences and naturally so. Cultural is a broad term I know but if we asked an for example, an American to distinguish between Glaswegian and Liverpudlian they would struggle. From a distance people of different cities and accents can look and sound the same.

Irony is clearly like Concorde, way over your head.

Have you thought about a third reason, that as the other speaker was an MSP, he would have various platforms to share his opinions?

    Vanity.

    Or.

The other speaker didn’t trust them to reproduce his speech faithfully.

The other speaker was speaking on behalf of himself as a Labour MSP, he has been a guest of FAC at several events, he has as far as i know no official connection with any Celtic supporting group whatsoever, as he regularly turns up at FAC events he himself obviously has no problem with the two other speakers that you have a political problem with, why are you objecting on his behalf, utter nonsense, you are creating an argument where there are none

The problem here is you and your political beliefs which are different from the two speakers you are objecting against, i attended a FAC rally as a Celtic supporter who likes to think there is more to the Celtic family than just a sound bite, young Celtic fans being victims of a bad bill which was born from meetings between Strathclyde’s finest senior officers and various Sevco supporters groups who wanted an evening up process, sadly the SNP listened to the Police and as Jeanette said it is outrageous to see Celtic fans in court Not for acts of violence or disorder or anything like that. But for wearing a t-shirt they don’t like; displaying a banner they don’t find funny; singing a song that makes them uncomfortable; holding views they don’t agree with; singing hymns, making the sign of the cross?

  24. Hamiltontim @23:34 Concorde used to fly right over the top of my place in southeast London.

  26. Ntassoolla,

I think if you witnessed what was happening around Celtic Park, and not just inside it, you would realise that all the speakers have put political stuff aside, I couldn’t tell you any of the speakers politics, all I can say is Young Celts, the FUTURE of Celtic are being targeted and intimidated, please realise this.
