There’s an industry of deliberate misunderstanding in Scottish football (and on the pages of CQN). One of the last vestiges of this is the SFA’s fabled Fit and Proper Test. There is no test, never has been a test and in all likelihood, never will be a test. It was almost certainly a figment of some under-informed journalist, who provided the concept enough currency for it to endure in the imagination, despite many, many, people explaining reality.
To be a director of a football club you need to be Fit and Proper, you do not sit or pass a test.
It’s a bit like:
To do a job you need to speak English, you do not sit or pass an English language test.
If you accept the above job assuring your employer you can speak English, and you can’t, you are likely to be fired.
If you accept a job as a director of a football club, assuring the SFA you are Fit and Proper, and you aren’t, the SFA will ban you from football and discipline the club for failing to ensure a director was Fit and Proper before appointment.
This morning the incessant campaign continues to throw reputational damage on anyone who would be inclined to point out that Dave King contravenes the eligibility rules on becoming a football club director. This is different from being Fit and Proper, which is a subjective assessment, Mr King is simply ineligible.
The reasons for his ineligibility (he was a director of a football club which was liquidated within the last 5 years), and other matters, most notably, his 41 convictions for breaking the tax law in South Africa, and the blame laid at his door by the SPL’s Lord Nimmo-Smith report, make up material reason why the SFA may consider him not Fit and Proper to run a football club.
After targeting Peter Lawwell yesterday, the campaign today turns direct to the SFA, who are accused of allowing Craig Whyte to “bluff his way through the Hampden [non-existent] ‘test’ by simply filling out an official SFA form”.
As should be patently obvious to anyone with a dozen or more brain cells, the SFA form is neither a ‘test’ nor a certification of appropriateness from the SFA.
The obligation to ensure a football club appoints Fit and Proper directors lies with that club’s board. If the board fail in their duty to the game, the club is liable to sanction from the SFA.
So who was on the board which appointed Craig Whyte as a director of Rangers?
Our emerging heroes, the men who chased away the billionaire, Dave King and Paul Murray. As non-executive directors of Rangers they had a responsibility to the club’s stakeholders that their interests were being protected.
The Institute of Directors factsheet on the role of non-execs quotes the Cadbury Report, saying they “should bring an independent judgement to bear on issues of strategy, performance and resources including key appointments and standards of conduct.”
It was the Rangers board’s responsibility to instruct the necessary checks on Craig Whyte’s appropriateness to be a director of the club. They either failed to do this, or if they did, failed to act on the information, or withdraw their names from the club’s register of directors.
Sir David Murray may have controlled the majority of shares, but as recent boardroom events at newco demonstrate, there is a great deal non-execs, when in a majority on the board, can do to inhibit major shareholders if they believe the interests of other stakeholders are being jeopardised.
Non-execs are not there to wear the blazer and attend supporters’ events, they are the eyes and ears of the supporters, shareholders, employees and creditors who are not privy to the inner workings of the club. In this respect, Mr King and Mr P. Murray failed Rangers on a cataclysmic level.
They are, in every respect possible, perfect for the job of running newco. My prediction (no inside info) is the SFA will fold under sustained media pressure, set aside their ineligibility rules and allow Mr King and Mr P. Murray to work their magic one more time.

It’s plane to see why
Was interested to hear Ronny say that he discusses what he wants from players then he gives them the chance to do things as they have agreed and that sometimes they step out of line maybe once or twice and that’s allowed but when they do it once too often they get the ‘hammer’

The way I see it the club should at every opportunity be calling them The Rangers, as thisis their name after all.
No need to use any other names or name calling. As many other clubs and people have found this seems to wind them and the smsm up more than anything but it is there name after all so what’s the harm?
You never know if our board were strong enough to stand up to them and their lapdogs we might find all other s would follow suit. :)

Great day. When we saw the crowds at the turnstiles, we went in with Dundee supporters, having hidden our colours first, and managed to walk round the back of the East Terracing to join the crush inside among our own.
I think the East terracing might have been the least packed part of the ground that day too.
So good to get that early goal from Chris, and then clinch it in the second half.
One of the few times up till then that I remember winning the title at home, apart from the 4-2 game, and against St. Mirren when Aberdeen had a chance of winning it.
And still that great Macca Cup final to come!

I am enquiring around the Overseas Season ticket which is available.
Myself and my son due to circumstances can’t make the football every home match.
The main reasons are below.
Midweek matches
Matches in the winter
Late changes of KO times
My son is only two. He currently has a season ticket next to my father and I use his ticket to take my son along when he is either away or has the use of another ticket from his CSC.
I live in Edinburgh so I have to factor in travel and with my son being so young midweek games are completely out of the question. Also matches in the winter are out of the question as it is way too cold. I took him to a match a few months ago and we spent the start of the 2nd half in the concourse trying to warm up until the screens were switched off. It was freezing. I had to then make my way back to our seats. I thought that was unwise. My kid was freezing and I was warming him up and it meant taking him back out in the cold.
So I want us to be part of the Celtic family and I want my Bhoy to have his season ticket but I also want us to do this together. I can keep his seat in its current place but I would rather we had our own.
So my questions around the overseas season ticket are as follows
Even though we live in Scotland can we apply?
Can you pay the tickets up or does it have to be paid in full?
Is there a concession option?
Can we purchase these seats on an adhoc basis for cup matches and additional league games?
I think the club are missing an opportunity here with people like myself. There must be a lot of people like me who would love to be involved but can’t buy a season ticket at the minute because they will not get value for money from it.
I can probably make around 6-10 games a season at the moment. I can only really go at weekends with my son.
I had a season ticket for around 20 years. Celtic is a huge part of my life. If I had the money I would just buy myself one but times are tight and I want to make sure if I do this it means that the seat is being used when we are not using so I believe the ethos of this overseas ticket are good.
May I suggest a weekend family season ticket?
Maybe not for this season but in the future where people with children can take them to matches on a weekend match. I would love to go to the Champions League matches again and away games and follow the team abroad but I am unable to. My circumstances have changed. I am still a Celtic supporter but I don’t feel part of the club and that is difficult for me. I want to be a member and I have heard a lot of suggestions of a membership card which I would support but the overseas season ticket looks the best option available for me at this point in time.
If it is not feasible then I completely understand but there must be something that can be offered to fans like myself who are desperate to be part of our club but can’t commit to a full season ticket at the moment.

Any thoughts on this family season ticket deal for around 10 home games a season?
Say a set price of £30.
This is around the cost of an adult ticket. The club get the cash up front. They notify you either in advance or as many of the 10 games as possible at the time you buy. These games would be weekend only.
If games are moved due to TV to say a Friday or Midweek then a cup game can maybe fill the void or a voucher for the club shop or a reduction off the following season’s ticket.
This is obviously not an option this season but there is a large part of the LL stand with a banner on it and it could be filled or half filled for at least 10 home matches a season on a weekend.
Thoughts and general ripping apart of my idea welcome.

Are you lhads discussing the Dundee game when we won the league at Celtic Park? That was one of the only times I stood in the old Rangers end. I was to meet my mate and didn’t. He did get in to the Hayshed.
By the time I got to Janefield Street (about 1.15) it was already jam packed. I opted for the east terracing (was that the official name?) which was fairly empty at the time. Packed to the gunnels by about 2 o’clock. I think it was the biggest crowd in Celtic Park that I can remember.

one of my favourite days at Parkhead,i was moving to london not long after this so i just had to go an inhale some Celticness.I was in the ground for just after one pm,like one of those timelapse cameras i seen the place fill up literally to the brim.a 3-0 victory and i said to my mates i would catch up.i left feeling the last one out,can still feel the continual singing and swaying.Last man out of Parkhead is a habit i continued while livin down south as i wasnt getting to as many games.still a lovely thing to do,just look around and say wow.Your right Bmcuw it was all the better for that after those transfers,sweet mate
