Brown called Green right with only one solution remaining

1082

Scottish football has gone through months of drama and uncertainty to rescue ‘Rangers’.  Only weeks ago we were told a CVA was likely.  Once this failed the question of today’s SPL vote crystallised.

The SPL met several times to discuss this matter, even doing so before Rangers CVA failed.  Sentiment was firmly behind Newco, to the extent that some were worried they would be allowed into the league without any sanction (if one Ayrshire club had their way).  All this changed when Charles Green and Duff and Phelps agreed to challenge the SFA at the Court of Session.  At the SPL meeting following this decision the mood changed dramatically.

I then had several friends in the media rubbish my suggestion that Newco were far from certain of being voted into the SPL.  To be fair to them, my information was not coming from Neil Doncaster, whereas theirs was.  If Doncaster was so assured when speaking to the media, day after day, we can only imagine what he was saying to Green. His influence has not been helpful to the cause he championed.

Clubs, who were previously weighing up the argument, suddenly had a convincing point to consider.  Rangers going to court was the biggest own goal in their 140 year history.  Terry Butcher, eat your heart out.

After this Green was at the mercy of fortune, and the growing influence of the hawk(s) in the SPL who saw no need to create space for Newco.  In many respects, John Brown is correct.  Having gambled and failed, Green did whatever he could to accommodate but there was no way back.  Underestimate John Brown at your peril, he has his club’s interests at heart and has the fortitude to raise a phoenix from the ruins of Ibrox.  His unconventional style is easy to mock but it is just what needed (I truly believe this).

Where now for the Newco-Sevco-Rangers?  I don’t see a solution.  Sooner or later Mr Green will let his friends know they only way forward is for him to acquire an existing Scottish Football League club, rename it to something like Rangers United, and move it to Ibrox.

The toxic history would be set free and it would be game-on.  Keep your eye on Cowdenbeath.

  1. Good thing that Alex Thomson is getting this aired on C4.

MSM may ignore but the story/scandal is out, and it won’t go away.

I really, really hope , everyone who can goes out and buys a season ticket for this season or attends as many games as they can. First and foremost we are Celtic supporters, let’s give Neil and the team maximum backing and create a brilliant atmosphere.

Killie fans badly let down by a Chairman who cares more about RFC than he does about his own club. They’ll get him out. #SayAyeToAKilliePie

Today will have been a costly day for newco. whatever Division they end up in there season books will be less pricey than had they gained entry to the SPL. They will have to hope they dont lose any more players as they will struggle if more players walk.H.H.

Hi Paul, thanks for the updates.

I notice you suggest that the only way forward for Green’s newco is to acquire an existing Scottish Football League club. Why would they need to, if the SFL chairmen voted to allow newco into division 1? Do you now not anticipate this happening?

    Thanks in advance.

I am not Peter Lawwell but I have met him and he is a very good listener, very good.

With that advantage I had no doubt which direction his moral compass was pointing I particularly liked this bit from the statement:

“We will also play an active role in mapping the future of Scottish football.”

Rigourous club licensing to stop a repeat, professional refereeing to stop a repeat (we allknow what of) and if I were him I’d still go to UEFA for financial assitance to help clubs deal with the shortfall that meeting integrity has cost them.

Listening to Real Radio is educational. All of the issues raised by callers are leaving them confused and confounded. Why? Because they are still referring to “Rangers”. For example – “Rangers have been punished enough. We were given a 10-point deduction last season and now they don’t want us in the SPL”.

Of course their problem is that they are conflating RFC (IA/IL) with Sevco/newco and Browngers. Probably the reason they are not being corrected by the host is that:

    a) It keeps the conversation going

    b) He can’t be arsed

    Great value for money.

  16. fergus slayed the blues on

    IMO

the vote went as well as anyone fan could Imagine .

So I would declare a truce and hope every club finds fans that were lost to the game may get some back

    hail hail

Good article Paul67 – bar your opinion on Brown.

    Great result today.

The surgical removal of Rangers from the breast of mother Scotland has begun – I hope it is an irrevocable procedure however at this stage its still more likely than not, for that to happen, especially if the huns are back in a year.

There is no way a 140 year love in will be cured of all its ills in less than 365 days.

First time in such a long time I cant remember when – that I have had warm feelings towards Scotland as a whole.

Brown is the kind of person who will keep all the old mantras of the previous huns alive and kicking. His remarkable rant at turning the whole debacle into an ‘us vs them’ ‘ they are our enemy’ statement is all the evidence you or I need to suggest that.

They will never ever change with people like him around. Maybe the englishman Green will dilute some of that supremacist nonsense they spout like cave men.

Plus 3 years in the wilderness, that will put perspective and manners into the silent majority – or Scotlands shame as they are otherwise known.

  18. Auld Neil Lennon heid on

In true David Coleman style I found Brown’s references to Peter :Lawwell astonishing, truly astonishing. Auld Hugh nipped in quick.

I think Mr Brown will be getting some advice on rhetoric from plod.

As today seems to be a new beginning,do you think one of the more astute bloggers amongst us,could pen a letter to all the other SPL clubs supporters, thanking them ,in sporting terms, for saying NO.

Would it be possible for all of us to add our name to such a letter.

Only an idea,so please don’t be too critical if you think it is a stupid idea.
