Brown called Green right with only one solution remaining

1082

Scottish football has gone through months of drama and uncertainty to rescue ‘Rangers’.  Only weeks ago we were told a CVA was likely.  Once this failed the question of today’s SPL vote crystallised.

The SPL met several times to discuss this matter, even doing so before Rangers CVA failed.  Sentiment was firmly behind Newco, to the extent that some were worried they would be allowed into the league without any sanction (if one Ayrshire club had their way).  All this changed when Charles Green and Duff and Phelps agreed to challenge the SFA at the Court of Session.  At the SPL meeting following this decision the mood changed dramatically.

I then had several friends in the media rubbish my suggestion that Newco were far from certain of being voted into the SPL.  To be fair to them, my information was not coming from Neil Doncaster, whereas theirs was.  If Doncaster was so assured when speaking to the media, day after day, we can only imagine what he was saying to Green. His influence has not been helpful to the cause he championed.

Clubs, who were previously weighing up the argument, suddenly had a convincing point to consider.  Rangers going to court was the biggest own goal in their 140 year history.  Terry Butcher, eat your heart out.

After this Green was at the mercy of fortune, and the growing influence of the hawk(s) in the SPL who saw no need to create space for Newco.  In many respects, John Brown is correct.  Having gambled and failed, Green did whatever he could to accommodate but there was no way back.  Underestimate John Brown at your peril, he has his club’s interests at heart and has the fortitude to raise a phoenix from the ruins of Ibrox.  His unconventional style is easy to mock but it is just what needed (I truly believe this).

Where now for the Newco-Sevco-Rangers?  I don’t see a solution.  Sooner or later Mr Green will let his friends know they only way forward is for him to acquire an existing Scottish Football League club, rename it to something like Rangers United, and move it to Ibrox.

The toxic history would be set free and it would be game-on.  Keep your eye on Cowdenbeath.

Thank you, i was getting seriously worried about Paul’s mental state

  5. No need for Club 12.

SPL 11 is the ONLY way forward.

This is the answer to all remaining SPL financial woes:

    – More games

    – two visits from Celtic

    – two visits from local rivals, eg St Johnstone & Dundee Utd.

    – and bigger split of TV money

    Simply.

The SPL 11 now have to look after themselves not Dundee or Dunfermline.

Just wanted to say I hope to see some retractions from those who doubted our board and interpreted their wise silence as acquiescence to the will of Zombie Rangers (IL).

They have shown professionalism and a calmness in the teeth of the gale which can be contrasted with the shambles down river.

Take a bow Peter, Eric and everyone at the home of the champions.

    GG –

Don’t be daft. We all know the only reason PL voted against the hun today is due to the fact that he reads CQN and was shaking wi fear at the thought of crossing those you make reference to.

What a wonderful day – huns pushed back, Murray into semis at Wimbers, Tax Return through the door – well, I am honest, and am more than willing to pay my fair and legally required share, unlike some we could all name . . . . . . .

  8. Torontony @1954,

Your advice to PF is the best so far (just IMO, mind you).

  9. With the greatest respect John Brown never was or has claimed to be the most intelligent individual to pull on the jersey of the now defunct whatstheirname fc

Bomber is doing what he did when he grazed the turf at the old stadium, he rabble roused, he played to the cave man hordes of the copland road stand, he did his job, make no mistake this individual was carefully selected for the task, he will play the “no one likes us we dont care cos we were rangers” orange card till it suits his masters, then he will be dropped with a loud thump, much akin to the tax bill that dropped through their letter box,

His rabble rousing is inciteful, its dangerous, its what we have come to expect as was witnessed tonight on radio,

there will always be someone willing to give them a platform to spew their rhetoric, this latest rant wasnt about free speech or about highlighting plans for the future, this was a message to the bare cupboard brigade, I worry for the clubs in Div 3 if and when they have to welcome this shower.

Any news about the Weekly General Meeting (WGM) outside the big hoose?

  12. From the date of liquidation CFC was always going to say ‘no’.

I was surprised that some on here thought there was doubt (or perhaps they were cleverly exerting more pressure on the board).

From the statement of 14th May (?) it was clear CFC could not possibly contemplate a Newco straight into the SPL.

I understand everyones tensions over this whole issue but in reality it was always wrapped up as far as CFC was concerned. Integrity was the magic but not ethereal word.

In addition to that certainty they knew the support would not stand for anything other.

I’ve learned new things about Scottish football in the past two months. Fans of other clubs ARE NOT mini Huns. Maybe however some of their club officials are conflicted, some by an empathy with RFC(IA) others because of a genuine fear of financial and commercial disaster.

These fans are NOTnecessarily well disposed towards Celtic FC or the Celtic support. That is the way it should be. Serious rivalry, dischord at what is perceived, wrongly in most cases, as overly sectarian emphasis from our support is entirely understandable. However…

In the main they are now proven to be ‘just’ football fans, biased in favour of their club fanatical in their own way and entitiled to a hearing and at least to be taken account of at all times.

This is how we expect to be treated and no less is due to them. A new dawn between supporters? Maybe a mirage but certainly worth a serious attempt to draw lines to the past and move on in a new environment. Idealistic? Yes of course but that is no crime.

It is likely changes in SPL commercial/financial arrangements will take place & I believe it likely that the new SPL sides will want to move together. Celtic will need to show some magnanimity (some) and the others will realise that their financial security is significantly more dependant on Celtic than before & I remain opptimistic all parties will realise hanging together is infinitely better than hanging apart.

Could be talking guff but at least its 10 year old Tobermory guff!

Does the SPL have 2 Champions League places next season?

If so, why not have end of season play offs between 2,3,4 and 5th teams to decide who gets it.

It would make top 6 competition more exciting, more meaningful games for SKY.

It would also give sky more games after EPL has finished to fill their schedule.

It would mean virtually all of the top six have something to play for right to the wire.

This would mean a serious change of rules, at the last minute, and without precedent, so right up Doncasters street.

Good news today. The SPL/SFA/SFL couldnt stall any more.

Some things are for certain today.

Doncaster should be fired if he doesnt resign.

    Killie should be boycotted.

I owe Awe Naw a holiday.

No Celtic Rangers games next season. Maybe not for 2 years, 3 years, 4 years, 5 years.

    Hopefully never again!

As for loss of revenue it doesn’t compare to the amount they stole already.

Still not one fibre of remorse from them.

Just more entitlement talk of SFL1.

Lets hope the humiliation is total.

oh aye and the Higgs Boson may have reveled itself.
